OpenSUSE Hardware :: Mute Using Keyboard Shortcut But Not Unmute On Opensuse 11.2?

Mar 11, 2010

I recently installed Opensuse 11.2 on my Acer 3680 laptop. One problem I have notice is that while I can mute my volume control using the keyboard shortcuts, I cannot unmute it using the keyboard short cut. When I press the keyboard shortcut, which is maped to XF86audiomute, it display the popup indicating that the control is unmute, the control is not really unmute. I can unmute it by using the volumen control in the system tray.

I am puzzled, this did not happen under Fedora 12 nor Linux Mint 8 / Ubuntu 9.10. What could be the cause of the issue and what can I do to locate the source of the problem?

OpenSUSE :: How To Turn Off Keyboard

Aug 20, 2010

I'm running Suse 11.3 with KDE4. While typing thismorning I inadvertently somehow disabled the keyboard (the mouse worked fine).I discovered that the keyboard worked on bootand I could log into my account (or other accounts)with the keyboard, but ONLY within my account wasthe keyboard dead. Rebooting the computer did NOTcure the problemI finally cured it by logging in as root, and renamingthe .kde4 directory in my home directory as .kde4xand then logging back in as myself. But (a) what did I do and how did I do it and (b) isthere a cleaner way to undo this should I do it again?

OpenSUSE :: Japanese Virtual Keyboard ?

Feb 8, 2010

I am trying to find a good virtual keyboard that is in Japanese. there doesn't seem to be much options for virtual keyboards, let alone one in japanese. The only one I have found is xvkbd, but it is very limited and somewhat glitchy. I tried setting it to Japanese, but all that does is add a button to switch to japanese that you annoyingly have to hit every time you want to enter a character. And not only that, even though the keyboard is in hiragana, it inputs katakana. Are there any other options for a virtual Japanese keyboard, or at least a way to get xvkbd to input hiragana?

OpenSUSE :: Getting Japanese Input On US Keyboard?

Feb 11, 2010

I know it is possible, and I have been trying everything I can find, but I can't seem to get it to work. I went to languages in YaST and enabled Japanese as a second language, and I have tried adding japanese as a secondary keyboard layout under configure desktop-> regional and language settings. I have a little flag in the system tray that I can click to change from US to Japanese, but all that does is change what the punctuation buttons do.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Keyboard Does Not Work In KDE

Apr 12, 2009

I boot my machine, and my keyboard does not work. So i log out, and on the login screen it works, so i can type my password and login KDE. Then in KDE it does not work again. I repeat procedure and on the login screen it works, but not in KDE. I can start YaST by copying letters from a webpage and paste them to the password field. Now i need to know what i can do to make my keyboard work again. I don't know what the hell happened so it does NOT work properly. I tried to backup my xorg.conf to something i used to use when it was all working correctly, but i couldn't because i don't know how to past a RETURN KEY to the konsole to enter a command. My keyboard used to stop working SOMETIMES, but after a reboot it was all right again. Not today. All this little problems make me think openSUSE is some kind of Windows 95 in terms of "get things done the right way".

I erased the partition and installed 11.1 kde. That seemed to work ok so I upgraded to 11.2. Now the keyboard doesn't work with the gui, although it works in grub. I have tried >sax2 -r< and >sax2 -r -m 0=vesa< in run level 3 but each of those killed both the keyboard and the mouse so I had to shut it down using the power switch. Should I go back to 11.1

OpenSUSE :: KDE/Kwin: On Keyboard Shortcuts & Ctrl + F10?

Jan 26, 2010

I am trying to find out where in the system are the files that store information on the following: 1. keyboard shortcuts, and 2. which applications and which windows were open before the session ended. Regarding (2): I really like the fact that when I log back in, OpenSuse pops up all the windows that I had open before I last logged out. I know that this information must be stored somewhere. And most probably in my home folder. But I can't seem to find it in ~/.kde or ~/.kde4 Regarding (1): Again, I really like the Mac-OS style behavior that one gets with Ctrl+F9/F10. But sometimes I invoke it inadvertently when - as far as I can remember - my fingers were on the trackpad only. I have not been able to figure out how I do it. But I would like to be able to do it consciously - without pressing Ctrl+F9/F10. Does anyone know what could be happening. i have an HP Pavilion dv4 laptop with an otherwise annoyingly sensitive track pad.

OpenSUSE :: Keyboard Randomly Changes Language And Layout?

Feb 23, 2010

I installed open suse 11.2 yesterday stock Education edition DVD.

I changed the keyboard because it was generating garbage instead of english chars. (everything was stock from the CD)

The replacement kb is a newer one (I favor the old kb's).

eventually the language and layout of the keyboard changes - usually to Arabic or some Eastern alphabet.

I was really starting to like open suse, but if this persists it is unusable.

Something is misbehaving - any Ideas would be appreciated.

I'm running the default desktop env - gnome.

OpenSUSE :: Keyboard Delays / Incorrect Characters

Jun 6, 2010

I have been using SUSE 11.2 for some time now. I have 2 problems that I have been unable to resolve.

1. I like to use the Caps-Lock key to type capital letters every now and then. I turn caps lock on, type the letter, turn it off, and type the rest of the word (Yes I know I can use shift. My brain is not willing to unlearn ). After I turn the caps lock off, there seems to be a delay after which it switches off. This ends up making the second character caps as well. For example I want to type 'Who' instead I end up typing 'WHo'.

What setting can I tweak to get rid of this ? I am not sure what to search for, if some one has already asked this question.

2. I often select a couple of words using the 'ctrl+shift+ left / right arrow key' combination and attempt to overwrite the selection by typing in new characters. For example select the words 'abcd xyz' and then type 'a', which will replace the selected text. Sometimes I get this character '' instead of 'a'. A similar thing happens for other characters. Sometimes the keyboard will not respond for the first 2-3 strokes and the system will send out a *beep*. I have no clue why this happens. It does not happen consistently either. But it does happen in all text related windows. For example in a browser / kwrite / <Insert an application that can handle text here>

OpenSUSE :: Keyboard Shortcut Is Working Wrongly

Jan 1, 2011

I use Opensuse 11.3. I had configured my Gnome so that when I press the home hotkey it launches Firefox (the standard web browser). And I configured Firefox so that it starts on my selected home page. Everything worked out right until I installed and trie KDE yesterday. When I went back to Gnome and pressed the home key it launchs Firefox but rather than appearing my home page on it what appears is the content of my home folder. I got so mad at it that I uninstalled everything related to KDE. Deleted .mozilla folder, what reset Firefox. Nothing worked at all! I deleted the folder that stores keyboard shortcuts on Gnome, what reset all shortcuts. But when I redefine the home key or any other key to launch web browser, what the key does is to launch Firefox with the content of my home folder.when I launch Firefox from menu it starts on the home page I selected. When I launch it from any custom hotkey it starts on my home folder. It may seem a little thing but it is so disgusting for me that sometimes I even feel willing to re-install the whole system, and i just didn't so because it took me several days to configure it the way it is.Does anyone know what is happening here and how can I change it?
