OpenSUSE Hardware :: Keyboard Does Not Work In KDE

Apr 12, 2009

I boot my machine, and my keyboard does not work. So i log out, and on the login screen it works, so i can type my password and login KDE. Then in KDE it does not work again. I repeat procedure and on the login screen it works, but not in KDE. I can start YaST by copying letters from a webpage and paste them to the password field. Now i need to know what i can do to make my keyboard work again. I don't know what the hell happened so it does NOT work properly. I tried to backup my xorg.conf to something i used to use when it was all working correctly, but i couldn't because i don't know how to past a RETURN KEY to the konsole to enter a command. My keyboard used to stop working SOMETIMES, but after a reboot it was all right again. Not today. All this little problems make me think openSUSE is some kind of Windows 95 in terms of "get things done the right way".

OpenSUSE :: Keyboard: Unexpectedly Accents Don't Work?

Dec 8, 2010

Since a couple of weeks ago, almost everyday (and some days more than once) my keyboard does strange things. Mainly, the accents (etc) don't work (they come 'a'e'o), and that's important for me.It happens unexpectedly; at least I have not been able to put it in relation with something I did (anyway, it had never happened before).In Personal settings -> Input Devices -> keyboard everything looks normal, nothing changed.I don't know where to begin to find a solution. The only thing I can do now is to reboot.

OpenSUSE :: Custom Keyboard Layout Asciitilde Does Not Work

Jul 23, 2011

I have swapped backspace key with ` (grave) key. So I added a layout in the /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/us with the following lines:

key <TLDE> { [ BackSpace, BackSpace, BackSpace, BackSpace ] };
key <BKSP> { [ grave, asciitilde, dead_tilde, asciitilde ] };

Now the backspace and grave work well, but when I press shift + grave (previously backspace key), I get grave, not asciitilde.

This is strange because I tried the same thing (with the same us file) with Chakra linux and it worked without any problem.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Keyboard - Key To Choose 3rd Level Does Not Work

Dec 17, 2009

I don't get it, it worked on openSUSE 11.0 (I use 11.2 now, with Gnome environment). Same story on my laptop keyboard and the external USB Trust keyboard. It doesn't make any difference if I use any other layout: Serbian latin, Serbian cyrilic, USA, Croatian, Bosnian. Also it doesn't make any difference if I use alt, win, or the ctrl key for that. I need healthy keyboard. One strange thing, on one flash site (gojira-music), it does actually work in some way, with strange signs between, take a look: @ .

Slackware :: Installing / After Loading Kernel It Asks For Keyboard Configuration, But Keyboard (usb Wireless) Doesn't Work?

Jul 18, 2010

I'm trying to install slackware 32 bit 13.1.After loading kernel it asks for keyboard configuration, but keyboard (usb wireless) doesn't work.

Keyboard works on the old 13.0 installation, on bios and also in the boot options of 13.1 installation cd.

I've tried removing legacy usb support and changing usb2.0 speed from high to full. Nothing changed.

Anybody with this strange problem? (kernel of setup seems also to detect it correctly as a trust keyboard).

Ubuntu :: 10.10 - USB Keyboard Does Not Work

Dec 27, 2010

I recently switched to Ubuntu 10.10 from WinXP and notice that the USB Keyboard is not working at all. The keyboard works fine with other systems, so there isn't any hardware issue with the Keyboard. I notice that the Keyboard does not even get powered when I plug it into the USB port. The USB ports work fine with other devices.

Red Hat :: CentOS 5.4 PS/2 Keyboard Didn't Work

Jan 22, 2010

Just installed CentOS 5.4, had no problems until the first time it tried to login, where the keyboard didn't work. There are bugs logged on both the CentOS site, and the Red Hat site, but nobody seems to have a definitive solution (other than buy a USB keyboard). Bearing in mind that the machine in question is not hooked up to a network (i.e. no internet updates), is there a way to resolve this issue?

CentOS 5 :: Keyboard And Mouse Won't Work In GUI?

Apr 1, 2010

I've just installed CentOS-5.4 on an AMD64 box, dual boot with Windows 7 64, if that matters. At first I could not get the GUI to display at all, but fixed that using system-config-display. During installation, the keyboard (HP bluetooth set with mouse) worked fine in the GUI, but mouse did not. Now when it loads the GUI interface after booting, neither the keyboard or the mouse will work at all, therefore I can't navigate anywhere. I have done the yum update already as well, from init 3, but they still are not working. what I should do next, where to check?

Debian Hardware :: Getting Sun Keyboard Keys To Work

Oct 11, 2010

I got Sun Type 5 Unix keyboard which uses mindin-8 connector, attached to a PC through a special adapter which converts it to USB. The keyboard's distinctive features are Control key in the middle row (swapped with Caps Lock which makes it a Unix layout - much more comfortable for the pinky) plus a whole bunch of extra Sun keys, including such useful ones as "Copy", "Paste", and volume control. (Sun Type 5 keyboard has very good feeling to its keys, much better than Type 7 one).Those extra keys work as expected with this adapter in Gnome on OpenIndiana (OpenSolaris previously), but aren't supported out of the box on Debian. Looking around I didn't find any good up to date tutorial how to enable them on Debian or any other Linux. Did anyone try to do it?

Tried unplugging the device(s) and the KVM itself from each machine but no luck.Not a huge issue, but it would be nice to use the KVM (right now I have to use VNC to get a similar effect).

Ubuntu :: Keyboard Repeat Does Not Work Correctly?

Keyboard repeat doesn't seem to work correctly on my system (Xubuntu, 9.10). Holding a key down ends in the repeat function stopping after a certain point, and at different times each time. Also, editing text fields is tricky because the field currently highlighted reverts to its previous value if I don't hit enter fast enough (I have to type new values into a notepad and copy and paste it quickly into the field).

Ubuntu :: New Install, Keyboard Doesn't Work

Mar 17, 2010

Windows crapped out on me (not surprisingly) and I am using Ubuntu to transfer all of my files to an external hard drive. However, when the computer loads the Ubuntu disk I get to a language selection menu, but my keyboard doesn't work. It won't let me make any sort of selection, and the 30 second timer eventually times out and my system just restarts and the process starts all over again.

I've tried plugging my keyboard in to all of the different USB ports on my computer, but still nothing. The strange thing is that the keyboard works just fine when I changed the BIOS settings to boot from the cd-rom... it just doesn't work when Ubuntu is ready to run..
