I have problem with my left cursor key on notebook (Toshiba l10-117) keyboard, I removed this key and checked if there is no dust or something but it didn't helped, probably i have to buy new keyboard in future.I'm wondering if it is possible to do something like this as temporary solution: if I use Alt+PageUp key it will work like left cursor key

I would like to know if it is possible to assign new keyboard shortcut combinations for actions such as:
Action: switch tabs
Actual Shortcut: Control+(Alt)pgUp/pgDown
New Shortcut: Control+Tab (as it is on Windows)
Action: activate combo boxes item lists
Actual Shortcut: Alt+Down or F4
New Shortcut: still don't know yet
I have not found a way of doing this under gnome-keyboard-properties or gconf-editor.
This is it. Alt + Ctrl + F key won't work for me! I run kubuntu 9.10 on vmWare and what I want to do is to switch between virtual terminals. I tried Alt + Ctrl + F key combination and it only work once!, Say for example, I'm working in GUI on terminal 7(tty7) and I press Alt + Ctrl + F1 to go to tty1. It takes me to tty1 and I can login, then I come back to GUI using Alt + Ctrl + F7, but after that Alt + Ctrl + F1 doesn't take me back to tty1, no matter how much I try. What I can do is to press Alt + Ctrl + F2 and goto tty2 and without logging in, press Alt + Ctrl + F1 to goto tty1. And again, this won't work for a second time! This keeps happening to all the other terminals. Is there a command to switch between terminals?

is there a nice clean simple lightweight way to assign pc keyboard keys sounds?anyone know a simple lightweight way to assign sounds to keys in linux?like so your keyboard can be played like an instrument...i'd rather not do it through thewindow manager'sconfigurations, assigning single key shortcuts to audio samples, since i dont want it on all the time, and having two wm configs to toggle between could just get messy, and limits it to that wm, until you build it all from scratch again for another wm.or even if there isnt a simple lightweight way... what audio/midi software lets you assign samples/notes/etc to keys.(i tried searching for quite a while, but it was obvious i was struggling to find the terms that werent so genereic and with multiple meanings, that just get all the wrong kinds of things)

View 4 Replies View Relatedattempting to reinstall 11.3, my system always freezes up at different points. Always during actual installation (not setup). Burned an 11.4 disc and the same happens. First was a DVD, but the new one is a CD, and now with the new version, a little dialogue comes up at the start to tell me 1 gig of RAM may not be enough. Well, it always was before. Is there a certain combination of settings which may make it run better? Also, a live session works fine.

Both of them are too clever by half, and the combination breaks the library loading mechanism. That's an old issue, with an old fix - though I haven't yet checked my rebuild, so there may be more than one problem.

I know there are permissions one can assign to certain files and folders, but this won't come in handy if you need quick access to a file -and as User I often do- and don't want to slow down getting root permissions. You know, just open-close-move on. Is there a way, as user, to assign a password to a file or a folder? It would make the job a lot easier and more efficient.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 2 monitors. I'm using the Nvidia driver in Twinview Mode on the right side. I can move the cursor from one monitor to the next and I can drag applications between the two. I have multiple activities. And the second monitor selected one of those other activities as the background. I'm not sure how this was chosen, or if I have a choice. Anyone know? Do activities affect what is displayed in a dual monitor setting? As I toggle through the activities, the two monitors change, but never to the same one.
When I open an application, it's a guessing game which monitor it appears on. Can I control that?
I know if one clicks the top left corner of an application they can send it "To Desktop" ("all", "Desktop 1", "Desktop 2", etc). If I could assign "Desktop 1" to monitor 1, and "Desktop 2" to monitor 2, I could then use the "To Desktop".
At a minimum, how does one control where applications open in a dual monitor setting?
How do I assign IPv4 and IPv6 static addresses permanently in OpenSUSE 11.2? Currently I am only able to assign either IPv4 or IPv6 static address not both. I cannot find even the interfaces file(/etc/sysconfig/network/interfaces).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't know if this is a configuration issue or a hardware issue, but I have a Kinesis Advantage USB keyboard and for some reason the F3-F5 keys aren't responding as they used to. They don't respond to anything and, when I tried using F5 on Emacs, it said <XF86AudioNext> is undefined, so I guess it's a weird mapping problem.
Any idea how I could remap them to the original meaning?
Just wondering if Ubuntu has an Accessibility equivalent for sticky keys and mouse keys.

It has five buttons on the front just under the screen, which are the only ones accessible when you flip the screen over into tablet mode. One of them is for rotating the screen, and another is for switching to external display. I want to remap the remaining three to control, alt and super so that I can use shortcuts with the stylusThe problem is, when I used showkey to find out the key codes, I found out that each button generates more than one key code:Button 1:
key 126 press >> super_r, although this is distinct from the actual super key (125)
key 7 press >> 6
key 7 release
key 126 release
just install opensuse 11.2 and notice that i cant use HOME, END keys in console over ssh, and cant find any anwser on forum or the internet. i did have /etc/ from my last install opensuse 11.0 and try diff inputrc and was identical! anything else i can try?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to figure out the secret to send ctrl-alt-del to a remote Windows box using KRDC 4.4.4. Tried in windowed and full screen mode - no difference. Tried enabling "Grab All Possible Keys" in KRDC tool bar - nope. In all cases, ctrl-alt-del and alt-tab are sent to localhost. There are some mentions of a "config special keys dialog" for KDRC in a few places, though I don't actually find this anywhere in KRDC itself. Documentation for KRDC at the KDE site is very minimalistic. This should be super simple, but I can't quit seem to get it.

The keyboard has some extra media and application launching keys which I try to assign in systemsettings>Input Actions. I believe the application is called khotkeys, however I'm not sure. Four different cases occurred as follows: The keys are recognized and can be assigned a command to run. When settings are saved the specified application launches. Examples of keys that works:

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to 11.3, from 11.2, I apparently have only one nagging problem: the numpad doesn't work. After doing some research I found the problem is obviously that mouse keys is on; shift-numlock fixed it. But, I can't find any place in YaST or KDE System Settings to change that. Where did it go?
I did look in the xorg.conf.d folder and checked all the files there, but no luck.
So where do I find this setting?

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust had a weird problem in konsole at the command line. Some of my keys are not recognized as if they are not being pushed. They work fine in other applications and work fine if I push the Shift key with it and capitalize the letter. Some of the keys are the c, g, r, w, 3, 8,and 9. C, G, R, W, #, *, and ( all work so I do not believe it is hardware as I am using this computer to type this message. It is just at the command line. I don't know what I did to make this happen or how to fix it. I am using openSUSE 11.3 with the KDE 4.4.4 release 3. I tried reinstalling xterm and konsole from yast but it did not fix it.
