OpenSUSE Install :: Canon ImageCLASS MF4150 Printer Driver

Jan 23, 2010

I need to install the driver and I downloaded the Canon install package. The instructions read:

# rpm -ivh [file name of common module for CUPS drivers]

This rpm package construct was used in the Fedora distro.

Does it also work in openSUSE?

The only other construct given was for a deb package.

I looked in YasT for the driver but it was not there.

Ubuntu Installation :: 9.10 - Canon Color ImageClass MF8050cn Printer

Apr 2, 2010

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit on an Intel i7. I just bought a Canon color ImageClass MF8050cn laser printer and connected it to the network. I let the software pick a driver, but when I print my document goes into a black hole never to be found again. I also have a Mac and a Vista machine which can both connect just fine and print in color. So it's not the printer.

Has anyone successfully made this work? If so, what driver are you using, where do I get it if it's not in Synaptic, and what settings do I use? I checked on the Canon site, but they only support Windows and Mac. Before anyone goes there, I would like to use a non-generic driver for this if possible. I'm at work right now and the printer is at home, so I can't get specifics at the moment.

Ubuntu :: Installing Canon Printer Driver - Missing LSB Information

Jun 8, 2010

I am running Lucid 64bit on my laptop and been trying to install a canon printer driver LBP3200 on it. There are some comprehensive tutorials that I have been following and they worked on my desktop. However the last thing I have to do is

Code:
sudo update-rc.d ccpd defaults 50
which gives me the error

Code:
update-rc.d: warning: /etc/init.d/ccpd missing LSB information
update-rc.d: see [URL]
System start/stop links for /etc/init.d/ccpd already exist.

I checked in /etc and I do not have the rc.d dir! I have rc0.d through to rc6.d and rcS.d dir, but no rc.d one. Is this normal? and if so how can I get the correct file to start/stop the ccpd daemon for the printer? At the moment the print command brings up the printer icon for about ten seconds and then it disappears and nothing happens.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Canon I860 Printer Drivers Not Included In 11.2

Feb 23, 2010

I recently installed openSUSE 11.2 on a computer with a Canon i860 printer attached to it. Previously this computer had Ubuntu 9.10 installed on it. When Ubuntu was installed on it, the computer found and printed on the Canon i860 printer just fine. When I installed openSUSE, the list of Canon drivers did *not* include the Canon i860. Just for giggles I selected Canon BJC 4000.

It prints, but it "misbehaves" - For example, if I want to print a document that says only "Hello world", it will print it, but it prints it about 20 times on one sheet. I figure this insanity is caused by the improper driver I selected. I'm not expert enough to know how to get this printer working. And - why would it work okay in Ubuntu 9.10, but not openSUSE 11.2? Did I do something wrong while installing openSUSE?

Also when the document does not go through, the cnpkmoduleufr2 sits in memory and then chows 50% of cpu. In 11.3 worked beautifully so am thinking that this is a software issue.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Recent Updates Killed Operation Of Canon MP 460 Printer

Jun 7, 2011

I have been running my Canon Pixma MP460 for years on suse linux. Worked fine also after upgrade to suse 11.4. I was running MP460 using MP160 drivers as per some forum information when 460 drivers were not available. Some recent updates, however, have killed operation of my printer. Will not even print a test page. I have tried my old MP160 driver and variations of same and new MP460 drivers from CUPS-Gutenprint.

Consistent error message is: "The PPD version (134566257) is not compatible with Gutenprint 5.2.7."

I downgraded and upgraded CUPS. I have deleted and reinstalled many printer drivers for MP160 and MP460. I have run the "cups-genppdupdate.5.2" per the error log message and other cups update programs in the same directory. Keep getting same message. Printer works when I reboot to windows 7 so hardware has not failed.

System is: Suse 11.4 32 bit w/usb mp460 printer.
Hate to bid farewell to my old faithful printer.

OpenSUSE Install :: HP Lips Printer Driver Stops Often Restarts Only Via Root User?

Apr 7, 2010

I installed the HPLips printer driver for my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Printer.

The driver often stops printing on its own (HP Device Manager => "Printer Control" tab shows "stopped"). I guess it does so when it encounters a situation where it cannot print right on.

The problem: Users without root permission cannot restart printing, even when everything is o.k.. They have to call me in order to "start printer", because restarting it needs root access.

Does anyone know how to solve the problem: either setting the driver not to turn to "stopped" or permitting a restart by normal users?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Canon MP600 Driver Missing In 11.3

Oct 17, 2010

I recently upgraded (fresh installed) from OpenSUSE 10.3 to OpenSUSE 11.3. One thing I noticed missing was support for my Canon MP600 printer. Searching around, I found a solution on a Finnish OpenSUSE support page (which I translated with Google):
Canon MP600 ei asennu

Here's the fix:
1. Download file Linux_Print_Filterv270.tgz from Canon Print Filter for Linux (rpm)
2. Unpack with: tar xvzf Linux_Print_Filterv270.tgz (this also has support for other printers, including MP610, MP510, IP3300, and IP4300).
3. Install cnijfilter-common-2.70-2.src.rpm
4. Install cnijfilter-mp600-2.70-2.i386.rpm

This errors out with missing dependencies:
# rpm -Uvh cnijfilter-mp600-2.70-2.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libgdk-1.2.so.0 is needed by cnijfilter-mp600-2.70-2.i386
libglib-1.2.so.0 is needed by cnijfilter-mp600-2.70-2.i386
libgmodule-1.2.so.0 is needed by cnijfilter-mp600-2.70-2.i386
libgtk-1.2.so.0 is needed by cnijfilter-mp600-2.70-2.i386
libpng.so.3 is needed by cnijfilter-mp600-2.70-2.i386
libxml.so.1 is needed by cnijfilter-mp600-2.70-2.i386

5. I forced the installation using
zipper install cnijfilter-mp600-2.70-2.i386.rpm
Then select option "2" (break dependencies):
Solution 2: break cnijfilter-mp600 by ignoring some of its dependencies
Choose from above solutions by number or cancel [1/2/c] (c): 2
and it installs perfectly.

6. If you're using 64-bit openSUSE Linux (as I am), you need to copy the print filters:
mkdir -p /usr/lib64/cups/filter && cp -p /usr/lib/cups/filter/* /usr/lib64/cups/filter

7. Install the printer as usual.
I selected the MP610 CUPS+Gutenprintv5.2.4 simplified driver for my MP600 and printed a test page. The MP610 drivers work for MP600. There are about 4 of them, and I didn't try the others, but my guess is they will work also.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Canon LBB5100 Capt Driver X86_64 ?

Mar 11, 2009

1st. I still haven't got a reliable working printer driver direct on linux.

2nd. I am currently using the driver via smb to a windows box.

Okay there is no x86_64 driver for the capt drivers, that I could find. But you can download the standard linux drivers, which also contain the source.

The easiest way to get a 64bit driver is to unpack the drivers.

You will find a directory Src. In there are two source packages.

Copy both to /usr/src/packages/SOURCE

unpack both in a temporary directory.

I can't say which other packages you need to compile and build all of this, but you will need the c++ compilers, and various -devel packages. I would just add them via yast as you go along.

Anyway off to work out how to get this working directly on linux reliably.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Canon MP250 Scanner And Printer Drivers / "Error During Device I/O"?

May 20, 2011

I am trying to get Canon MP250 printer and scanner working in OpenSUSE 11.3 and so far I've had limited success. Both components work up to a point, but aren't fully operational.First of all, I installed the drivers from Canon website for both parts of the multifunctional device. Here's the report on the versions (it's localised, but it shouldn't be hard to understand ).

The printer works for the most part. But it fails to set images to greyscale when I request the driver to. There are some guides about that for Ubuntu, but none for openSUSE that I could find. Also, what does the setting "Amount of Extension" in the printer options do?It would also be nice if I could set the printing quality as well. Right now it seems to print everything with the default quality setting, but personally I like using lower print quality since that saves ink and makes it a little faster.

The scanner, however, is hardly usable at all. If I try to use Canon's ScanGear MP to scan, I can hear that it operates the scanner, but the program itself freezes and after a while gives me the "Cannot communicate with scanner" error. On certain settings I can also hear that the scanner itself doesn't complete the scan (the indicator on it also reports an operation in progress, but it never gets completed). If I try to use Acquire images, the native KDE scanner application, I can get it to scan, but only on very specific settings: it must scan it in colour and the resolution must be equal to or over 300 dpi. If I try anything else, the resulting image file is completely blank or I get an "Error during device I/O". And, of course, it can't save PDF files.
