OpenSUSE :: Only Version Of KDirStat - Can Find In The Repos Is Dependent On The KDE3 Libs
Nov 6, 2010
I'm running openSuSe 11.3 and KDE4.5, but the only version of KDirStat that I can find in the repos is dependent on the KDE3 libs. Is there a version available for KDE4.5? Or maybe something else equally as good (apart from running WinDirStat under Wine)
I've recently installed openSuse 11.4 64bit with KDE 4.6 and that's when the trouble started. If I put a data or mp3 cd in the drive it can be mounted. Simple audio cds refuse to mount, giving me only the option to play on one of the audio players. Since I wanted to move some music to the computer I've had to resort to windows to copy files then transfer them. How can I force KDE/Suse to behave the way I want or do I have to revert to an earlier version with KDE3.5? I suspected that System Settings/Removable Devices was where I needed to be but nothing I did worked. So then I tried playing with System Settings/Device Actions and again nothing seemed to work. I can't mount the CD manually,I get this (using su -c "mount etc"
A while back Yahoo changed their log on methods and Kopete, Pidgin, and several other 3rd party messengers had serious issues. Pidgin patched up no problem. Kopete has a newer version that fixes this but it requires KDE4 which is still classified as unstable. Since I do not want to make my machine SID and I want to keep it as Debian Lenny I am limited to KDE3 and can not get the latest version of Kopete. I have googled like mad and havn't found a patch for Kopete 0.12.7 to fix the yahoo login issue.
iam an old linux user (debian, suse and ubuntu) and i installed now fedora on my box to learn something new about other distros. fedora 12 is realy nice, but i got some questions about some things.
-> why i can not find a newer wine version 1.1.37 in the standard repos (i marked already all repos in the "add-remove software" tool, but not the testing one for fedora13)can somebody tell me where i find an actual repos for the newest wine package?
I have just installed filezilla via yum and it has installed fine and is working great but it is an old version 3.2.4.1 and the latest version is 3.2.7.1 generally how long does it take for the updates to make it through to the repos
Today i download cheops source code and when i type ./configure returns me this error :
Quote: checking for gnome-config... no checking for gnomeConf.sh file in /usr/local/lib... not found configure: error: Could not find the gnomeConf.sh file that is generated by gnome-libs install Is there any way to install cheops in KDE ? Do you know any solution for this problem ?
Is there an easy way to update Perl from repos or do I need to compile from source to get a newer version?
Longer version I'm trying to set-up MailScanner which requires a newer version of Perl IO than CentOS 5 appears to have in it's standard repos. I've also tried updating Perl from the rpmforge repo - but that just results in a bunch of transaction conflicts being reported by Yum. Is there another way of updating Perl from repos?
I've already googled and I found how to find the fastest repo counterpart. The problem is all tips I found, talk about main repo. However I am interested in finding all counterparts (for each entry)[URL]he first line originally contained the main Debian repo, but since netselect-apt found the fastest counterpart, I changed this line to mirror. But -- what about the rest? How to find the fastest counterpart repo (mirror) for each line?
I try to find a rpm for kmplayer from here, but there are all for KDE? Software.openSUSE.org I am using opensuse 11.2 + Gnome desktop, which rpm should I use?
kernel update on sl6 beta , after new kernel installed started gettingyum error cant find repos elrepo-kernel have looked in /etc/yum.repos.d and no elrepo-kernel file there.yum wont run till I resolve this

I have a few kde3 apps installed on my kde4 11.2 system. I was wondering if there is a way to get the colour scheme that I use in kde4 to work with the kde3 apps (in particular amarok 1.4.10).
I want to clean my ubuntu installation and I want to find packages which I installed using .deb files or using another (not ubuntu) repositories. I'm sure it can be done using apt or dselect or dpkg, but how?)

I use Gnome as my default desktop but have KDE3 installed to run KDE software on Gnome. Because Suse-users are mostly KDE users I checked the KDE to see why. I noticed good reasons to stick to Gnome but also noticed I cannot shutdown, restart or suspend from the KDE, there are no buttons on the menu for this, I can only change user and use Gnome to shutdown, restart or suspend. I checked my laptop and noticed the same problem. Both computers have installed suse 11.1 Gnome2.24 and KDE3. (one user) default How can I add a shutdownmenu? I cannot find other users with this problem on the forum.
After upgrading KDE from 4.6.0 to 4.6.3 SpiderOak will fail to run with message. Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x40703) with this library (version 0x40701). There's no more SO package in Non-OSS, apparently due to some support issues. That's a pity, since Dropbox had conceded access to US agencies, IMO SpiderOak is a really good option, and has been working very nicely until now. Anyway, Yast tells me that KDE 4.6.0 uses Qt 4.7.1, while 4.6.3 brings in Qt 4.7.3. A possible solution may be found here, originally for Qt 4.7.2. I'll try it and report.
I used KDE3 with 11.0 with some KDE4 apps till I needed some applications from the KDE4 factory tree and mistakenly left the repository active. Next time the online update also updated most of the applications I would rather keep, and as a result the KDE3 disappeared from the KDM login choices. So I have two questions:1. how to enable users to select KDE3 at login (currently I have to select failsafe mode and run startkde manually)2. how to replay back an update I didn't want to have?
Perhaps a combination of the above: can I upgrade to OS11.2 and keep KDE3? (please don't tell me to switch to KDE4, I acknowledge and appreciate the effort and the improvements that KDE4 got, but it's still not a replacement for KDE3 - there are so many simple things which are impossible in the new version)
I need Eclipse 3.5 to develop an application for Amazon EC2. I know I can install it form the Eclipse homepage but I wonder why the openSuse repos still contain Eclipse 3.4 .Can I expect an update soon?
I have upgraded successfully to 11.4 I note that with zyper repo ls I have 11.4 and 11.3 repos. The 11.3 are all disabled. Do they need to stay in 11.4 or can I remove and delete them - will probably do this via YAST?
When I start yast2 it seems to hang at around 50% (the lower progress bar) while refreshing the repositories. It can sit there for a minute before moving on. Once yast2 has started and I add / remove repos the refresh happens very quickly. It's only when starting that it gets stuck.
This is something that really only started after I upgraded to 11.2. In 11.1 the progress bar would move cross quickly and you could see the various repos flashing up above the progress bar. I didn't bother with it too much but it's starting to annoy me now. It also sometimes just hangs there permanently and I have to abort it.
I've tried unconditionally updating the yast stuff but it hasn't helped. My network connection is fine and I have now problems or speed issues with browsing the repo urls from a browser.
Trying to install kuickshow from KDE-Extra repos. liblmlib.so.1 called out as missing. Where is it? Is there a way I was "supposed" to know where it was without having to post here?
