I'm running Debian Wheezy on a laptop with an i3 380M and 4GB of DDR3 1066 RAM. Whenever I open a relatively large (~80MB) pdf in evince, my system will continue running perfectly fine for a few minutes and then at some point it will just completely freeze up. The mouse cursor doesn't even respond, and I have to do a hard reboot to get the system running again.

When I try to scroll firefox,it not scrolling smoothly, some time the entire screen gets freeze and I cant see the contents of the page. For my private data I'm using a QNAP NAS (Some ARM CPU with linux kernel 2.6.22), the file shares provided by NFS. I mount them withmount -t nfs 192.168.0.2:/Public /mnt/qnapWorks fine, no problems.But now, if i try to copy some large files ( > 1GiB) to the NAS share, sometimes the systems completely freezes during the copy process. I have to do a hard reset to bring the system back to work

For some reason, Evince has the open file keyboard shortcut set to "A", which means that if I'm searching for text in a pdf and I type the "a" key, the "Open Document" dialog box is called. How can I fix this?

Libre Office can be removed from Ubuntu 11.04 without making a mess of an installation but when I began ot attempt the same with Debian I was concerned it would take too much necessary stuff with it requiring a fresh install. I use Abiword and don't need Open Office. Can it be removed somehow cleanly? How would I do this? I partly want to do this as there seem to be a lot of Open Office-related Updates which is waste of my Mobile Broadband limit.I am using Debian 6.01, 64 bit Gnome edition.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI supposed to install a server (mail,dns,dhcp etc) but we need to record all the steps that we're doing, thats why i decided to setup a virtual machine and record everything with Xvidcap (which works great by the way).
The problem:
Now we need to test this server at school which means i have to take my computer to school and setup up a network overthere, whats the big deal about this? my computer case is a huge xclio a380 which weights about 35lbs (not kidding) so taking this thing to school riding a bus 3 hours to get there every weekend is not a good idea.
Is it possible to make a copy of the entire system and put it on a laptop?
Is there any function I can use to set the timezone of the entire system in linux using C? (Other than creating a symbolic link between /etc/localtime and /usr/share/zoneinfo/). Could I specify the timezone offset in seconds by any chance?

Well, i've made a lot of changes to ubuntu 10.04 and now i love it! It does everything i'll want from any computer. This took me a lot of time, follow several tutorials and destroy the entire system a couple of times. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got an odd problem and was wondering if anyone had any insight. I'm on Ubuntu 9.10 on a Gateway E-100M and everything works great except for firefox. My machine will hard freeze about once a day when using firefox. The whole OS -- no mouse movement, no keyboard response, etc.I've switched to Chrome for weeks and I get no issues at all. I switched back to firefox and it hard froze within the first hour or so. I know it's unusual that an individual program would freeze the whole OS rather than just crash, but it seems to be a fairly consistent pattern.

just want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.

View 1 Replies View Relatedfirst time KDE and OpenSUSE user here, went from BSD to Windows now here with you, and I have a small problem. This is pretty much a fresh install, and KDE will sometimes become unresponsive and the computer will disconnect USB devices (mouse keyboard). Although I can still use the trackpad and keyboard on the laptop, no shortcuts work, I cannot kill process, open the terminal, or anything else, and can only reboot the compute via power switch.
I was told by an experienced Ubuntu user to try to replicate the error on demand and post the logs. The problem is, I can't. It will happen pretty randomly, sometimes when watching flash, or sometimes downloading from Yast2. I did take my last logs from a recent crash though and have the pastbin Jan 3 19:54:02 linux-yiyn su: (to root) kris on / - Linux logfile Also as a side note, although running on older hardware, OpenSUSE never seems to utilize more then 7% CPU (1.5Ghz single core) and 130Mb RAM (2Gb DDR). I am told this is unlike linux systems, that they usually idle high.

Main reason I am using openSUSE currently is because my Windows system's went bad. I haven't been able to easily restore and will probably have to do clean windows install. I want to make sure my entire openSuse system (application/OS setting/etc) backup so I can easily restore of it fast. Since this type of back takes awhile, I would preferably like do this while I am still logged into SUSE. I am where to disk cloning thing like clonezilla, but looks like I would need turn of my system entirely to get this done.
Currently my SUSE root and home are in a partition with another NTFS partition on my hard drive. I really don't want to use 'dd' to clone the entire hard disk. I would much rather store of required partitions in other locations. Hopefully, there is easy to get this done without too much of effort and time.
I would like to copy the entire file system hierarchy from one drive to another..i.e contents of each directory as well as regular files in Linux platform. Would be gratefull to know the best way to do that with possibly Linuxes in-built functions. The file system is a ext family.
