Nov 19, 2010I recently installed ubuntu and installed amarok and tuxguitar, both of them have no sound. Amarock just skips all the mp3s i want to play, and tuxguitar just plays without any sound, no error message or anything. I ran these both ot of the applications menu, not terminal (I dont know how to run them out of terminal).

Mar 5, 2011I've looked, but no luck. Coming from Debian, 5.02, is there a setting in Ubuntu 10.10 that will allow me to single click to open a folder/launch a program. I don't mean the one i am using now that is set up with the mouse setting where it seems to be an assistive technologies application where there is a slider to set the dwell time (when i use this one, i get a menu opening at the same time as the application launch), but the one where the pointer turns to a little hand when it moves over the icon, and opens/launches the program when the button is released.

Apr 4, 2011I changed the kde desktop layout to Search and Launch on an 11.3 64-bit machine and lost the ability to bring up a right-click menu on the desktop, also tried it on an 11.3 32 bit machine and experienced the exact same thing how I can solve this even if it means reverting to the default layout? I suppose I could delete and re-create the user's /home but I'm wondering if there's a way to solve this without resorting to that On the one machine I've put 11.4 on so far it's using the search and launch layout with absolutely no problems at all and finding it very handy
the 11.4 machine I'm using this layout on actually logs onto the 11.3 64 bit machine I first had the problem with via nis and an nfs /home export For the user it's working fine under I set the search and launch layout from the 11.4 machine, the user I'm getting the problem with on the 64-bit machine (nis/nfs server) was set on the server itself. The 11.3 32 bit machine however, I disabled nis and nfs so that it would use local logons and /home only so it seems to be an issue with 11.3 itself and regardless of cpu architecture

May 24, 2010I installed a few services using the dolphin tools menu (configure dolphin) but they're not showing up on right-click, how can I enable them.
Here's my setup:
-Ubuntu Lucid GNOME

-All dolphin dependencies and issues resolved (I think) by using:

My second problem is file search, the feature that comes with nautilus is way too slow, and catfish is lacking so many feature, I'm kind of a sucker for eye-candy, and when I tried beagle it stuck out like a sore thumb! Is there a good looking, well-developed file-search feature for the gnome desktop?
My third question is regarding the update in Lucid, it keeps telling me the following when I run: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

My last issue is with nautilus, I have many large directories with tons of subdirectories (especially my music folders), and nautilus can only view them as icons, list or columns, is there a way to install a script or plugin for nautilus to make it faster and/or include some form of miller columns like in dolphin (I believe it's the best way to view large folders).

Jul 14, 2010just installed ubuntu 10.04 a week back.It updated as well through the update manager.Then I installed latest version(beta) of skype from the .deb downloaded from their website.In the beginning my webcam was detected but the video used to flicker.So I searched the net for a solution.I tried launching skype using 'LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype' command but there was hardly any difference.Then I came across gstreamer properties.I tried the three options and there started the problem.Now my webcam is detected only on its first launch.Once i stop the test there appears a black screen.I uninstalled and reinstalled skype but in vain.I tested it using cheese and vlc as well.

Problem is that when I attempt to run the script the first time, CoverGloobus doesn't launch, but Rhythmbox does. Here's my script as it is right now:

I've double-checked the commands in gnome-terminal, and they're the right ones for launching the applications. Here's where it gets odd, though. The second time I run the script, CoverGloobus and Rhythmbox launch simultaneously. I've reproduced this scenario multiple times.

Jun 7, 2010After installing Ubuntu 10.04 LTS over the weekend I had some problems, which I subsequently solved and thought I'd mention here.
- First, the dreaded Low Graphics (EE)NOUVEAU(0):Error allocating scanout buffer:-12 which wouldn't allow me to change my monitor resolution.
- Second, TVTime television viewer would not launch at all.
Solution to BOTH of these problems:
From Synaptic uninstall xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (experimental) and reinstall xserver-xorg-video-nv.
Now everything works!

Eventually I want to be able to hit enter on a video file and have it play on the TV without any dragging to the external monitor. I have googled around a bit, checked the monitor settings options, and looked through the media player options but so far can't find anything.

Jul 28, 2010Recently in the course of normal nightly updates my Firefox got updated to a newer version. I believe that it was a security update, so I don't really want to roll back to an earlier version (I went from 3.5.x to 3.6.8), but I am having some issues with the current version. One of the more annoying issues is that a previous bug that was fixed has resurfaced, and now the prior solution no longer works. The only way I can left-click within Flash and have it work is by holding down the right mouse button at the same time as I click. Previously I was able to get around this with this fix:

That line is still there, and I even tried reinstalling flash (using the FLASH-AID plugin someone on these boards wrote), but nadda. The problem does not exist in free standing flash applications and flash running in Chrome works fine, and it worked fine in Firefox before the upgrade.

Ubuntu :: Found That Two Finger Tapping Touchpad Has Gone From Middle Click To Right Click?
May 1, 2010I'm newish to the forum, but have been using ubuntu for the past few months.I recently upgraded from eeebuntu (a 9.04 derivative) to 10.04, and found that two finger tapping my touchpad has gone from middle click to right click, (and 3 fingers is now middle instead of right).
From what I've seen, this has been changed since 9.10, but I haven't been able to find a permanent solution yet. Most fixes have been from before and use hal, or other things that don't exist anymore. The one thing I've found does work is using xinput and the command

But that has to be run every time I start up, and it occasionally reverts while I'm using the computer. I've tried making a script that runs at startup, but neither adding it to the list of startup programs, or autostart folder has worked, but running the script file manually does work. I'm a bit at wits end with this, it's the only issue I've had with 10.04, and I've spent many many hours trying to get it to work (I've also tried gsynaptics and the newer version whose name escapes me right now). Hopefully there's a permanent fix out there.
