Networking :: Configuring Squid As Transparent Proxy In RHEL5?
Jun 11, 2009Need a bit of help from the linux community. Lately, I have been trying to configure squid as transparent proxy on my server running on RHEL5. I had gone through few articles on web abt how to configure it and configured squid accordingly adding http_accel_xyz settings and then configuring the NAT using iptables. But while restarting squid there were warnings about "unrecognized: http_accel_..." in parseConfigFile.What I could get from these is that probably I need to recompile squid adding transparent proxy support. I downloaded the new squid 3.0 and tried to compile it.But unfortunately, the 'make' command fails giving library errors.I have been stuck with t now as the new squid does not compile and old one does not support the transparent mode.could compile the new one and what supporting libraries do I need to compile it successfully and also from where can

Sep 8, 2010I have installed RHEL-5 (2.6.18-53) on my Desktop (ASUS Motherboard with Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controler 8168). After installation eth0 is not detecting. I downloaded R8168 drivers from Relatek site, but I am unable to install as it's throwing the following error.

Feb 3, 2011my company there is 1 RHEL5 server and around 50 systems connected to it( running windows ). I want to know who is pinging or telneting to the server how can I find this information on the server OR where should I look for this information in the linux.
if I want to explore on this topic (i.e. who is trying to connect to server, from where user accessing server, whats his/her ip, whats his/her os etc. ) where should I look for it on the net ??

May 13, 2011At work I have been given the "opportunity" to provide admin support on a bunch of RHEL3, 4, and 5 servers. My latest problem is, as the subject hints at, adding persistent (or permanent) routes on a RHEL5 server. I've successfully done this with a couple of RHEL4 servers by adding the relevant information to the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/route-eth0 file like this:
GATEWAY0=xx.56.200.129
NETMASK0=255.255.255.128
ADDRESS0=xx.56.200.250
On the RHEL5 servers I do not see a route-ethX file. Do I just add the file and the route info? Or has this functionality been moved to another location?

Apr 1, 2011I have a user using Mac OSX and ssh-ing to a couple of Redhat servers, one running RHEL5 and the other RHEL6. The user's connection seems to be timing out after 60 minutes or so of inactivity. The user is on the same subnet as the servers. Both servers have the same sshd_config files with the following entries with regards to timeout:
TCPKeepAlive yes
ClientAliveInterval 30
ClientAliveCountMax 99999
In a nutshell, his office Mac keeps getting dropped off both machines. Other machines, including the Mac he logs in with from home doesn't get timed out and keep the connection open. The log files are unremarkable and the switch port shows no errors

Apr 27, 2010I'm new to Linux, i have couple of setups like
1. RHEL5 (2.6.18-128.el5) running fine on VMware(6.5v)
2. RHEL5 (same version of ker) running on Laptop (DELL Latitude D710)
there is a wireless modem which running at home with that i was being able to access the internet from VMware image running with RHEL5.
BUT internet does not work from the laptop. Network manager are running on both VMware image and Laptop.. What is the steps i need to follow to get WiFi Enabled so that it should pick the ipaddress from Wireless Modem to get internet access to my laptop.

Jan 5, 2010I have failed to install an AT&T Sierra Wireless Aircard 881 on a Compaq 8510p running RHEL5 Server (Linux version 2.6.18-164.9.1.el5,gcc version 4.1.2 20080704, Red Hat 4.1.2-46. )
As seen in the dmesg output below, the OS detects the modem, connects it to ttyUSB0 - ttyUSB3. However, kppp is unable to access the modem.
I have followed Sierra Wireless instructions located at sierra wireless's website. (I would post it, but I've not made enough posts yet to link it in this message.) However, I was not able install the TRU-Install patch. The unusual_devs.h is absent on the machine, so patching was unsuccessful.
I'm stumped on what to try next. Is there a FAQ or guide on how to get a 3G modem running with RHEL5 Server? Ideally, I'd like to find something like the Internet Connection manager on Ubuntu. The modem works on that distro with no problems. I'm not able to migrate due to application and security certification dependencies on RHEL5 Server.
