Fedora Networking :: New Realtek RTL8185 Driver?

Jul 2, 2009

I just checked the Realtek website and they have a new Linux Driver for the RTL8185. The new driver is dated 6/26/2009. So it is quite recent. I would have thought it might have gotten into FC11.

I have 2 questions. Has anyone tried it? What would be the steps to install it?

Ubuntu Networking :: Driver For Realtek RTL8185 On 10.10 Not Working?

Oct 4, 2010

when I updated from 10.04 to 10.10 beta, I lost my wireless on my Gateway MX3410 laptop. In 10.04, the wireless Realtek RTL8185 card was auto-detected, worked with the default driver.

So I installed the linux driver version of Realtek RTL8185. Although the driver shows up in the "Additional Drivers" panel under "Administration", the computer is not recognising the driver.

Below is all the specs of the current situation.

OS: Ubuntu maverick (development branch)

Networking :: Realtek Rtl8185 Wireless Card Will Not Connect

Dec 26, 2010

Running Linux mint 10 After the installation the wireless connection worked but it was very weak and intermittent. The icon would show 1 bar or none. iwconfig showed the rate at 1Mb/s. The same card worked fine in windows and on a 32bit version of linux. Installed new driver from realtek. Now the iwconfig readings look good and the icons shows 2 and sometimes 3 bars. But it will not connect at all! I even turned off all security on my router but it would not connect.

Networking :: Using Rtl8185 Driver, Unable To Connect?

Nov 15, 2010

I installed a wireless pci nic in a desktop. The wireless nic works with puppy linux 5.0.1 using the built-in rtl8185 driver. I ran make and ./wlan0up, then ifconfig. I see the lo and wlan0. If I see wlan0, then I am assuming that the driver is working? I use the same driver in a laptop, but I just run the script ./wlan0up and never had to seek anp address. The card is an imicro wireless pci card. The access point is the apple airport. I tried the dhcp script, but get an error.

Slackware :: Realtek RTL8185 -- Rtl8180 Module Locking System Up On Slack 13?

Jan 22, 2010

an old Compaq Presario 8000, which I reluctantly took, as I tend to end up with more computers than I use and more or less end up acting as a disposal agent. It's a 2.4Ghz machine, which will suffice for whatever I felt like installing on it.I have a generic wifi pci card with a Realtek RTL8185 chipset in it, which I never used and thought I'd set up that computer with it. Hadn't installed Slackware 13 on anything, and it's a distro I like so I went at it.Install went well, no problems there, but I've used Slackware for about 9 years so I'm readily familiar with that end o' things.

I found the rtl8180 module to be causing problems. It would load on boot, but wouldn't bring up a wireless interface. I was able to remove the module with 'rmmod rtl8180' well enough, but when I would load it again with 'modprobe rtl8180', the system would lock. Tried that a few times, same result. I ran across mention of a driver on Realtek's web site, so I downloaded and installed it. That one is identified as 'r8180'. I added 'rtl8180' to the module blacklist to prevent it from being loaded at boot, and proceeded to set up wpa_supplicant.conf for my WPA-PSK connection. Came up without a hitch. The connection is stable thus far, with a respectable link quality. The Realtek driver can be found here.I thought I might document my solution here in case someone else runs across the same issue that I experienced.I'm thinking of slapping another wireless NIC in that computer, or perhaps testing with multihoming possibly. This computer will probably end up as an AP for relaying my wireless traffic to an AP downstairs. I have one USB NIC (Alfa AWUS036S)with a 5dB antenna that has a strong signal, but the ones of more a common variety could use a little help

Ubuntu Networking :: With RTL8185, Can't "make" A Driver?

Jun 8, 2010

I'm having some issues with my RTL8185 on a fresh install of Lucid on a quad core x64.It connects, but the signal strength is much weaker than it should be. I did some searching and found others with the same problem, but couldn't find any solutions. First off, I have build-essentials, and the kernel headers.I downloaded the latest drivers off the realtek website, started following their directions and got this on the first step:

Code:

Ubuntu Networking :: Getting The RTL8187b Driver From Realtek?

Apr 26, 2011

trying to get my little Encore USB wireless adapter to work on several flavors of Linux (Ubuntu 10,10, ElementOS, Xubuntu, and Puppy), I emailed tech support at Realtek. I asked where is the Linux driver for this product? I did this because there were no Linux drivers posted on their site and everyone here (and on Newegg) is jumping though hoops trying to get a working wireless connection with the Encore and similar dongles that use the RT8187b chipset. I didn't expect an answer, but felt better after my little vent. I get an email from Realtek with a driver. Realtek needs to promote Jerry -- a beacon of customer service in the age of the "get lost" school of customer relations. I have attached the driver below. Caveat: I have not yet compiled the driver, so I don't know much more about it than I've said already, although the archive appears to contain the source code.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Use RealTek Driver For 8191SE

Mar 7, 2011

I printed off the Readme file from RealTec and went though the following procedure. If anyone spots a glaring error could you please advise and I will try and fix. I changed to superuse using : sudo su and entered my password. All good so far.I was already in the directory containing the downloaded RealTec driver. I downloaded RLT8192SE ver 0019 as this was the closest to my hardware version and the latest driver available.

I used the command : make

and then : make install

Both these commands ran ok. However when I rebooted and activated wireless using Fn F10 on the laptop I was still disconnected from WIFI.

I then used : iwconfig wlan0 up

but this resulted in an error (see below)

root@Ubuntu:/home/jon/LDD/Drivers/test# iwconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig: unknown command "up"

Ubuntu Networking :: Unstable Realtek 8192 Wireless Driver

Aug 9, 2010

I'm having trouble with my Samsung Netbook N220 and its Realtek 8192 wireless card and could use some help with diagnostics. I would like to use the netbook as a server and after a day or so the system stops responding. What I'd like to know:

- What do the "========>ieee80211_parse_info_param(): athros AP is exist" spam messages actually say? Does anyone else have this and stability problems?

- Why is the realtek driver package not working?

I'm running Ubuntu Netbook 10.04/Kernel 2.6.32-24-generic. Initially the card was unable to connect, so I installed the Realtek driver rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0017.0507.2010 which adds a kernel module r8192se_pci.ko. At first my system was hanging during bootup. I then restored /lib/modules/2.6.32-24-generic and now the card is connecting but the system is unstable. The 2.6.32-23-generic kernel, modules listed below, still has modules as installed by the realtek driver and is not working. Below the drivers supplied by ubuntu

./2.6.32-24-generic/kernel/ubuntu/rtl8192se/r8192se_pci.ko
./2.6.32-24-generic/kernel/drivers/staging/rtl8192su

Networking :: Realtek Rtl8192u Driver Locks Up System (Puppy 4.3.0, Fresh Install)?

Jan 20, 2010

I've got a Puppy system running version 4.3.0 that I'm trying to get on the home network. I'm using a D-Link DWA-130 (H/W revision C), which has a Realtek RTL8192U chipset. I got the drivers off of D-Link's website, and they compiled and installed just fine, but when either a) I try to connect to the network, or b) while I'm browsing the web, the system locks up completely. No mouse, no keyboard, no Ctrl-Alt-Bksp to get out of X, nothing.

I'll outline my steps: Install Puppy using a "Full" HDD install (not "Frugal"). Copy the "devx_430.sfs" file (which I got from the Puppy website) from a thumb drive to the "my-documents" folder (although the exact location proabably doesn't matter). Mount it, cd to the mounted directory and execute "cp -a --remove-destination ./* /" and "sync". Copy the kernel source for 2.6.30.5 ("kernel_src-2.6.30.5-patched.sfs4.sfs") to the same directory. Mount it and execute the same commands as before. Copy the folder containing the RTL8192U drivers ("rtl8192u_linux_2.6.0006.1031.2008") to the root directory (i.e. "/"). cd to the folder in the terminal and run "make", "make install".Reboot the machine. Set up networking using the Puppy Internet Connection Wizard. HERE'S WHERE IT SCREWS UP: It connects, but after a while (e.g. just after logging into LQ through it, as a test) it freezes the entire system.

I have to do a hard reboot ("panic button"), then a soft reboot (for some odd reason the usb module won't load after a hard reboot, so the mouse won't work) to get the system working again, only to have it lock up again once it connects to the network.

Are these drivers broken? Outdated? Is there anything I can do to fix this? EDIT: I should add that this only occurs when the adapter is plugged in. If I boot the system with it unplugged, it works fine (probably because it never loads the kernel module).

CentOS 5 Networking :: Install RTL8185 Wireless In New 5.2 On Compaq SR1055CL?

I have not touched Linux in 5 or 6 years, so pretty rusty. I have a call in at Encore support and will post their solution if they get to me first.

Fedora Networking :: Samsung N130 Realtek 8192 Doesn't Work In Fedora 12

Apr 2, 2010

I have a Samsung N130 with a Realtek 8192 wifi card (possibly 8192e, I'm not sure) and I am trying to run Fedora 12 on it. I used to run Ubuntu until trying their latest beta and realizing it's not very good, so I looked for something else. Ubuntu was at least easy to get the wifi working with just a few quick commands that were written out, word for word, in order, on the Ubuntu forums. I tried openSUSE on here and it didn't have wifi working out of the box either but people on their forums refused to give me actual instructions and just kept bumping me from thread to thread with people giving vague advice or else just telling me I was looking in the wrong place. I'm hoping that someone can give me clear and detailed instructions on how to get this wifi card working. Keep in mind that I am coming from Ubuntu and so I'm not super comfortable in CLI, if I need to do some CL stuff I will need clear and detailed instructions on how to do that.
