CentOS 5 Server :: Cannot Join Windows 7 To Samba PDC

Sep 2, 2010

Good evening, I get the following error when prompted for my user name and password credentials that have access to the domain rights on the server. After typing in root and the password I get the following.

"The specified computer account could not be found. Contact an administrator to verify the account is in the domain. If the account has been deleted, unjoin, reboot and rejoin the domain."

Posted below is my smb.conf file, however I feel like I am screwing up the last steps with group-mapping, net commands, and creating accounts.

workgroup = SCRUGGSHOME
passdb backend = tdbsam
printcap name = cups

General :: New Windows Xp Clients Can't Join Samba Domain / Fix It?

Aug 18, 2010

We've been running samba on linux for a while and everything was fine. All of a sudden when you add new clients to the domain you get the error message :Logon Failure:unknown user name or bad password. This to me seems like a windows error message and not a samba error. When you remove an existing machine (ie on domain) and then try to rejoin it to the domain you fail.

Ubuntu Servers :: Samba, PDC: Windows Xp Unable To Join The Domain?

Dec 18, 2010

I've been configuring a PDC using samba I used this tutorial url as reference. It seems all went well during the installation and configuration not until when I try to join a windows machine to the domain.

Scenario: When the authentication dialog box prompts the username and password of the domain administrator. I supply root as username and its corresponding password. Then I will prompt an error "The user name could not be found. But, I have noticed that when I supply a wrong password of root the it will prompt "Login failure: unknown user name or bad password. It seems that the windows machine was able to recognize the account somehow.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Samba Share Not Accessible From Windows Machine?

Feb 13, 2010

I have Linux installed on one machine with samba running and a second machine running XP. They are going through my router and I am using the same username/passwords for both machines and I have even gone to the point of allowing access to everyone for the share I created and the worgroup in samba is MSHOME just like my XP machine. When I view (or search) my workgroup computers my Linux machine shows up and so do the shares I created but when I try to open them I just get a message that permission is denied and I may not have permission to use this resource. I even tried setting access to the shared folder to 777 but still I can't open this share. Has anyone got any idea of why this is?

I have already read up on this a little bit. Both servers are within a minute of each other, so I am not concerned about server timing. I am not sure where to go from this point. Everything I have read seems to indicate that this should "just work".

Server :: Windows Machine Cannot See Samba Shared Folder

Apr 30, 2009

I have everything networked properly, as far as I can tell, both computers see each other... I can use putty to port in and use my Linux machine (Debian 4). When I go to map network drive on my XP machine, I can see the computer, but not the shared folder. After some googling I found that i have to create my Windows user name ont he Linux machine as a user as well. Unforunately, that user is 'Administrator'. So I told Linux to force user, and it created it, and did smbpasswd command and added the user to the samba list. Still nothing.

Fedora Networking :: Windows Sever 2k3 Domain Controller / Use Machine With Samba As Secondary Domain Controller?

Apr 28, 2009

At the school i work in i have a server2k3 server that provides a domain to all the windows clients, aswell as a fedora server that acts as an imaging machine and webserver.

Im rather concious of the fact that if for any reason the Server2k3 server was to die there is no backup of active directory, or anything that can take its place whilst a replacement is found.

So is it possible to use a fedora machine with samba as a secondary domain controller? so it can be used as a login server, and has a copy of AD.

Ubuntu Networking :: Way To Share Folder From Machine To Windows Machine

Aug 28, 2010

I am trying to establish the easiest way to share a folder from an Ubuntu machine to a Windows machine. In the past I have added things to smb.conf and that has all worked fine but what I am trying to do is to figure out what the "new user" way of doing this is so that when I am helping other people I know I am getting them to do the simplest thing.I completely removed samba and reinstalled it so that I didn't have any configuration. Right clicked on a folder and selected "Sharing Options" ticked the "Share this folder box" gave it a name and a comment and ticked the other two boxes.

When I went to the windows laptop then it kept asking for a username/password and nothing worked.Back on the ubuntu machine I did sudo smbpasswd -a [username] and created a blank password. Now from the windows machine I can access the shared folder. Is the smbpasswd step still required? It's very confusing for a new user as there is no suggestion that anything other than right clicking on the folder and choosing the options you want would be required. Is it something to do with the fact that this is an ubuntu machine that has gradually been upgraded through versions and this problem wouldn't have been there from a new install?
