In emule p2p filesharing there's this thing called the id that is low if you do not configure your router for certain ports to be listening for incoming connections, forwarded by the router to ports on your pc. When the id is low, your downloads take longer or something like that. But if you have no listening port, how can a peer download from you?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a program that connects to the internet that I would like to route through one of my secondary network interfaces. I need one specific port routed to eth1 instead of eth0. I believe that I should be using iptables for that, but I don't really know how to do it.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have 2 (some future machines will have 4) ethernet ports. I want to have them configured such that if any gets unplugged, as long as at least one of them is plugged in, it can reach the network (even if via a different IP address), and it can be reached (at least when trying a working IP address). I tried this for /etc/network/interfaces:
Code:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0

How do I change the ports that something like xchat uses to make it use the same port as firefox? I am currently somewhere that has all non browser ports blocked.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone running fedora 11 have any luck getting a smart card reader added as a security device under firefox?
Specifically from firefox: Edit-Preferences-Advanced-Encryption tab-Security_Devices-Load;
Enter arbitrary name and "/usr/lib64/libcoolkeypk11.so" as the module.
This worked fine in fedora10 and was the necessary step to getting a card reader to work with firefox. In fedora11 (with firefox beta) the browser just comes back with nothing, it doesn't even respond. Note I am familiar with the concept of pki and certificates as well as certutil, pkcs11_inspect, pklogin_finder, etc. Also note utlities like pkcs11_inspect and pklogin_finder and esc all work and communicate with the reader and read the contents of the card but smart card login configured via the authentication applet (as working in fedora 10) is not working either.
I've got an install of CentOS 5.3 in a VM which was installed without X or Gnome.I've added X (yum groupinstall 'X Window System') and Gnome (yum groupinstall 'GNOME Desktop Environment) and can now run startx no problem. However on boot I get a command line login rather than the graphical login screen one normally gets if Gnome is included at install time. What do I need to do to get the graphical login after boot?

It is a board from NetMos Technology. lspci -vvvv gives following.
05:02.0 Communication controller: NetMos Technology PCI 9815 Multi-I/O Controller (rev 01)
Subsystem: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic 2P0S (2 port parallel adaptor)

Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 18

Region 1: I/O ports at e400 [size=8]
Region 2: I/O ports at e080 [size=8]
Region 3: I/O ports at e000 [size=8]
Region 4: I/O ports at dc00 [size=8]
Region 5: I/O ports at d880 [size=16]
Kernel driver in use: parport_pc
Kernel modules: parport_pc
In the libk8000 the data, status and control ports are statically defined. Are the I/O addresses and IRQ-line dynamically defined each time computer is restarted. Might they change in each boot or only when hardware is changed? If so any links to code that dynamically acquires these values would be good. Kernel supports this card because I can connect printer to it and it works. Where in the parport-subsystem is the code which acquires the IO and IRQ?
If the IO and IRQ don't change in each boot then what might be the data, control and status ports for LPT1 and LPT2 on the above lspci-listing? I have tried several combinations without result. On the motherboard LPT the ports are in increasing order with 1 byte. On the lspci-listing above there are 8 byte regions with each IO-address. The last one have 16-byte area - why ?
I have a sh-tty B/G wireless card that does 500mw according to iwconfig. I also have a nice little panel antenna on this card that does 7dBi. This rig picks up a lot of signals and that is really great. However I am experiencing a problem. I am able to Internet browse on non-encrypted networks as long as the wireless manager shows a full four bars. However, if I try to connect to a three bar network, I will not be able to browse the Internet. I have a solid lower level 3 bars, I'm assigned an IP addy, but I get absolutely no throughput.
So, I think this has something to do with receiver sensitivity. In G mode, this card does a lousy -65ish or so at 54 meg. So what I'd like to do is drop to 5.5 or 11 meg B because at 5.5 meg or 11 meg B, the card does a much more acceptable 90+ sensitivity.Does anyone have the command string/app for this? I would like to force a card to operate in no better than 802.11B@5.5meg rather than having it auto select 802.11G@54meg.
I've been trying to make/compile the driver for a wireless card. The card is usb, it's titled Micronext MN-WD550M and seems to use the rtl8712 driver.Firstly, though I did this once two years ago I seem to have completely forgotten how to install a driver in ubuntu.
Secondly, I'm not sure I have the right driver anyway since in the notes in the readme it says it is for i386 (I run amd 64). The driver is here [URL] Thirdly, after clicking through various readmes and documentation without feeling any more intelligent, I then tried using ndiswrapper to install a windows driver and ubuntu would crash if the usb wireless card was plugged in. Blarg.I feel like this should be so simple I'm going to make a clean installation of ubuntu 10.10 shortly (for various unrelated reasons) so anything I messed up with ndiswrapper should be back to normal.
Label on card: "I-440 PCI 4S1P IO Card"
Code:
# lspci -v
...
[code].....
I am trying to make a d-link dwl-650+ pcmcia card work through ndiswrapper method following the direction at:[URl]... The first step there is to install the "kmod-ndiswrapper" via yum.
But, how would I just download this package to a usb drive so that I can transfer it to the laptop that needs wireless networking. Is there an option in yum where I can just download the package, not intstall, so that I can save it somewhere?
The card is recognized by Ubuntu 9.10 and I have it in the network manager. I followed one tutorial about creating an ad-hoc network and all looked good, until I actually wanted to connect (or to be more precise, my machine is a host for other computers). The wireless icon just loops endlessly, without connecting and eventually I get "Wireless network - disconnected" message.
So, the main issue here is - connecting! I just can't. Also if you know/have some good tutorial for ad-hoc,
Code:
ivan@ivan-desktop:~$ iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"internat3"

I've decided I want to cross over to Ubuntu from Win vista but there's one thing i cant get working. My wireless card. My wireless card is a Xterasys xn 2523g I can't make this switch until i have the internet working.
View 9 Replies View RelatedRight now I have a VPS that I tunnel through using SSH/Putty/Proxycap. I use it for a certain program which uses a certain port X for authentication, and a different port Y for its data. However, due to certain security protocols I need port X to be somewhat "transparent" so that the IP from the originator will be shown - whilst tunneling data through port Y. The conditions though, are that I cannot just change the X/Y port values in the application itself, these are company specific.
How would I go about doing this? Because right now, my understanding is that if Putty calls for a certain application to go through a socks server, ALL its ports will be directed at that. I want a certain port to be passthrough.
I have an image generator (IG) running 64-bit Ubuntu Linux, GNOME & the SAGE application all running through an NVIDIA Quadra FX4500-X2 (dual GPU). Had to install a new FX4700-X2 (and the latest drivers) because 4500's are unavailable. The computer works fine except but I cannot watch the whole boot up sequence on the same DVI port anymore. On the 4500, all video came out the lower DVI port of the GPU with the PCI-X connector (let's call that the "a" GPU). But on the 4700 card, the screens you see during boot are divvied up between the lower DVI port of each GPU. The POST screen through Ubuntu splash screen comes out the "b" GPU while the "a" GPU is blank. The SAGE Initialization page and SAGE Desktop comes out the "a" GPU while the "b" GPU is blank.
I logged in as root and looked for a GNOME menu allowing me to force all video through the same GPU & DVI port, but couldn't find anything remotely close. Any suggestions on where I can look? Technically this IG is working, but I want to fix this to avoid future wild goose chases. The system uses 52 of these IG's.
i have two questions and thought that anyone here could have the answers.first things first,i want to make firewall accept a range of ports (say 8000:9000) because im using mpd process manager to make some parallel processing, does anyone know the command that satisfy this?
the second thing is, when i open a range of ports like that, it would put my system at risk if some bad guys somehow identifies this range, is there is anything that solves that matter(i.e. makes the firewall monitor the packet, if its an mpd accept if not drop)
make the move away from programming with windows. I have just downloaded the souce code to the Fluid FLTK GUI designer version 1.3.0. and i am completely lost. It just a huge pile of folders to me i don't know where to start how do I compile it ect....? Can anyone with experience maybe give me some pointers on how the most productive way to go about reading open source metarial is? like are there any files with classic names i should be looking for in particular?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'd like to set up a fileserver for myself and a few trusted individuals. I'm computer savvy and I use various linux servers frequently for work, but this is my first time trying to setup my own. Is it possible to have a Samba server setup so it is both secure and facing the Internet? Two questions:
Will opening Samba ports make my default Ubuntu server particularly vulnerable to penetration? More than having an SSH server running? Does Samba/ can Samba be configured to encrypt traffic or is it sent plainly? If so, does Windows and Mac support this secure communication?
If not, what would you suggest? I'd like to achieve something like a network drive and at a difficulty level that my parents could use this if they really wanted to. I will be storing things like financial information and tax returns, but no weapons-grade secrets.
I just got a new laptop and installed 11.1, and I want to move my swap file to a 8GB SD card I have. It seems to run very fast, so it will improve swapping speed. I created a swapfile with Partitioner, and I can delete the existing swapfile with GParted during a reboot - but I'm afraid I will make my system unbootable by doing that - don't I need to first tell OpenSuSE what swapfile (on the new sdb) to use? I'm pretty sure it will detect the new swapfile automatically during boot, but it might choke on a missing (old) swapfile.

I've followed the serial instructions, but everything they tell me to do is already done - see setserial outputs below. I've compared these values to the lspci output (below, NetMos card is at the bottom of the output) for the card and it appears right. Problem being, I can't use the serial ports. Oh and I did use search, and looked at every 9835-related article before posting this :)

I can manually type # route add -net 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255. 255.0 dev ppp0 and all works like I want it to, but I really need this to be automatic everytime the connection starts.I have tried following URL... but cant get it to work.
