I recently upgraded mu Fedora 13 to Fedora 14, I decided to add another NIC that I assumed it'll be eth1, when I boot the PC and typed #ifconfig eth0, eth1, lo appears. But when I typed #setup eth1 is not present. Why is that? I remembered doing this in Centos 5.5 but it automatically appears after I added a NIC and boot the pc? what should I do?

Ethernet card works, but Wireless card activation fails at bootup time. It also fails if I try it again from the Network Configuration UI.
I have provided some output I got from initial exploration.
I upgraded to a recent version of the 2.6 kernel.

I'm running CentOS 5.2 on an ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard. This motherboard includes an NVIDIA nForce 430 built-in Gigabit MAC (network interface). I've also installed a second PCI network interface card (NC100 Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet 10/100). The PCI-based card was configured as eth0, while the built-in NIC was configured as eth1. The machine is used as my firewall/router, so eth0 is my internal interface, while eth1 is my external interface. I've had some intermittent problems with the built-in (eth1) NIC. When booting the machine and it attempts to bring up the interface, I get the following message: forcedeth device eth1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization From that time forward, there is no eth1, and so no external network, etc. If I try running /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup eth1 (from that directory), it results in the same error.
Originally, I was getting this error when installing the operating system on the machine. At that time, I was using a 75' ethernet cable (as I was working on the machine in my office, and the external ethernet jack was in another part of the house). As soon as I moved the machine to its permanent location (which is within 2 feet of the ethernet jack), the problem went away. However, I just updated the kernel (via yum) from 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5 to 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5, and now it fails 9 out of 10 times. I'm not even sure what I can do to debug this. I'm assuming there is some kind of timing problem with the initialization. Is there a configuration parameter I can set to allow more time for the initialization to do what it needs to do, to prevent this error?
I recently setup a new SUSE box for the purposes of acting as an ftp/sftp server. It's currently setup to run ProFTPD 1.3.3.rc3 and mod_sftp/0.9.7. The server has two internal network interfaces eth0 and eth1. eth0 is purely for internal use to accept ftp and ssh. eth1 is outward facing and receives connections from the WAN via SFTP over port 22. The problem I am facing is that after half hour to an hour eth1 stops accepting connections whenever there is no SSH connection present on eth0. I can't figure out why this is happening.

When the external interface is unreachable the proftpd and proftpd-sftp logs show no record of any connection attempt. I have noticed however if I leave eth0 down eth1 stays contactable without problem. Can anyone give me some pointers on what I can check to find out why this may be happening.
i want to create a command that can be typed in any old terminal window that would display a message on screen for anyone who typed it. is this possible? i just want to do this for the randomness of it.
and cuz i need to get used to messing with terminal windows.

I want to change them so that the "Intel" become eth1 device and the "National" become the eth0 device.

I have two network interfaces on my computer but only one of them is connected to an Ethernet cable. Until now on every Fedora release, the activated primary interface has been named as eth0 and everything has always worked well without any problem. Recently I switched to Fedora Core 12 and surprisingly I observed that for the first time, my primary interface has been considered by the system to be eth1 instead of eth0. I tried to replace the content of ifcfg-eth0 by ifcfg-eth1, yet system gave me an error that there was MAC address mismatching. I conserved their MAC addresses in their files and just replaced other connection parameters ( such as IP ADDR, NETWORK, NETMASK, etc.) but it did't work. When I do "server network restart", the command blocks.
As I try to install oracle on this system, regarding the fact that oracle requires static network configuration on the primary network interface, I don't know how to proceed in order to set eth0 as my primary interface (or rather set the current eth1 to eth0 because it is actually eth1 that refers to my activated primary network card).Just one more time, I would like to remark, that with previous versions of the Fedora Core, on the same computer (with the very same two network cards) I never had problem and I had installed oracle on the system with success, having the statically configured eth0 correctly detected by the system.
All rc.inet1 an rc.wireless scripts work well if a wireless extension is on wlan(x). My notebook has Intel Pro 2100 wireless adapter (the ipw2100 module). By the system the card is marked as eth1. If you have a look at rc.inet1(.conf) you see that by default an eth1 has no wireless extensions. how to set up my network.

1. I am trying to setup NIC via network not NetworkManager

5. #ifconfig shows nothing. NO NIC card

How can I convert eth1 back into eth0 on Fedora 13? I searched /etc for eth1 and found it in 70-persistent-net.rules, but eth0 is still in the ifcfg scripts.
View 5 Replies View RelatedA couple of days ago I Obtained a spare computer and installed fedora 14 on it, just to try it out. I only have experience with microsoft windows so I'm new to this system. The OS seems to work fine but I can't browse the internet with firefox. I'm using a speedtouch 546 v6 modem with adsl(wired). The network manager indicates that the wired connection "auto eth1" is active. The previous OS was windows xp. I was able to browse the internet whit this OS. I removed it because it was crashing all the time (illegal version).

I have Fedora 10 with 2 nic's and have used the firewall tool, network manager, etc.,then disabled the firewall front end and wrote my own iptables rules but can not even enable eth1 to use it. Tried 2 different common cards (like a network everywhere 10/100) Service network restart says eth1 not there.
Right now Ive:
eth0 connects direct to internet via my cable ISP.eth1 I've set as 192.168.1.1, netmask 255.255.255.0, gateway I wasn't sure but I set as my IP on eth0 isp supplied. DNS wasn't sure, just left blank.
But I can't even enable eth1 to test those settings.
then with gui firewall crap disabled I wrote my own iptables ruleset: (kernel flagged for ip forwarding)
with all chain policies set to allow.

I have a hardware device with two ethernet ports, eth0 and eth1 running Centos 5. Basically my goal is to forward packets from eth0->eth1 and eth1->eth0 as well as get a copy of these packets for analysis. If I set IP routing to do the forwarding then I won't get a copy of the packets for analysis.

It's not a frequent occurrence but sometimes it does indeed occur (most recently as an argument to g++ instead of the password prompt to scp).Would you guys consider it adequate to clear the view with "clear" and the history with "history -c" or should I change my password after such a mishap? I realize that this should probably not be a problem with my computer at home as I'm the only user but when I log onto school (where we mostly use ubuntu, solaris) would the same precautions be enough?

For some reason doing /etc/init.d/networking restart didn't bring up the network interface. So i replaced the new /etc/network/interfaces file with the original and rebooted. Now I have eth1 in place of eth0. Under System>Preferences>Network Connections I have Auto Ethernet and eth0. However running ifconfig shows lo and eth1.

By default gulp must be run as root to have access to the ethernet port, and when I'm the only one running it, that's fine. But I need to let several other users to capture data and don't want to give them all sudo permissions for both gulp, and more importantly, 'chmod'. Is there anyway to change the permissions of eth1 to allow all users to open it and avoid sudo entirely? This is on a Red Hat/Fedora machine.

I'm having a strange problem. I'm using Ubuntu server 10.04 LTS and I want to setup a system with 2 network interfaces: eth0 and eth1. However eth1 does not come up at boot I have a screenshot of my /etc/network/interfaces file I don't see what is wrong. eth0 gets it's adress from DHCP eth1 gets a static adress. When i try to restart networking it quits with this message "don't seem to be have all the variables for eth1 inet" Can anyone point out what I'm doing wrong? if i do 'sudo ifconfig eth1 192.168.3.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 up' eth1 comes up

I have the following setup: An ADSL Router (192.168.4.1) which plugs into my server (that has 2 network cards) Server(eth0-connecting to the ADSL Router) = 192.168.4.2 Server(eth1-connecting to the windows XP PC) = 192.168.4.3 And the windows XP PC = 192.168.4.4 if I delete the entire routing table and add a default route route add default gw 192.168.4.1 dev eth0 I get an error (I can't remember the error, the PC's at work) however if I unplug the cable going from the PC to eth1, I can then successfully add the default route, and I can ping the router, however when I reconnect the cable to the PC and Server... I can still ping the router (from the server) but I cannot ping the PC

i have installed centos 5.1 but it won't recognize 2nd nic card (eth1). i was unable to install the driver supplied by the cd. i am using intellinet gigabite pci network card. the network card recognize by centos 5.3 but i need to use centos 5.1. i also tried another intel gigabite adopter but it also won't recognize by centos 5.1.
