Networking :: Didn't Configure Networking During Installation?
Jan 14, 2011
I just installed Debian 5 on my system and I didnt have it on the network and I chose not to configure networking during installation. I plan to use static ip to stay on a private network most the time, but right now I want to quickly get out on the net to get some things..... So I want to get dhcp going and connect to my router to get out.I set up my interfaces file to say:
I just recently installed ubuntu server. I want to be able to install packages and such but can't until I connect to Internet. I tried wifi but couldn't figure out how (I'm a n00b) but now I have ethernet and can't figure out how to make it work. So my question is, how do I connect to my Ethernet with ubuntu server, I could if I had graphical, but I can't get that until I have Internet. I didn't configure network during install, so how do I do it now?
I installed openSUSE today using a network installer cd, opting for the Xfce environment. Everything went smooth with the installer, but I have some issues with the network. After the fresh install, nm-applet did not start. I got the following error:
Code: nm-applet ** Message: applet now removed from the notification area ** Message: applet now embedded in the notification area ** (nm-applet:14981): WARNING **: Fallback icon 'gtk-dialog-error' missing: (0) Icon 'gtk-dialog-error' not present in theme ** ERROR:applet.c:2800:nma_icons_reload: assertion failed: (applet->fallback_icon) Aborted I don't know if the problem was with the applet or with the daemon. Fortunately I used Archlinux for a quite long time and I know how to connect to WPA2 encrypted wireless network from command line, so I was able to connect to the internet and do an upgrade - everything went just smooth and fine again.
After the update and restart, I found the nm-applet icon in the system tray. And here comes the second problem: I can connect with the nm-applet, but the connection does lasts only for about 10 seconds. So practically I can't use the net this way either. Ok, no problem, I fired up Yast, disabled the networkmanager and choose to start my network with the traditional method. I entered the required stuff from my wireless card ( ESSID and passwd ), set to activate at boot time and reboot.....
I am a linux newbie, I spent more than 3 days trying to set up the drivers for my Intersil Prism 2 Wi-Fi adapter on CentOS 5.5. While trying to Make the driver source I receive errors of missing libraries. Is the hostap driver included in the Centos Kernel? I tried with insmod hostap but it didn't work..? Is there a kernel patch with the hostap drivers? I will be glad if someone can give me ideas or directions for setting up the driver properly.
I bought the modem above (ZTE MF627), which works great in Windows 7. My laptop dual boots between Windows 7 and Fedora 12, so I rebooted into Fedora and spent a few hours trying to get the modem working. Scouring the Ubuntu forums (as there's only one post on these forums and it simply didn't work), I found a few possible solutions, but nothing seems to be solving the problem. Here goes... The modem gets picked up by the kernel and appears as a USB device.
I just installed Ubuntu this afternoon, and it has been working perfectly until i tried to install the flash plugin. My laptop froze and i had to unplug it to restart. Since then, whenever i try to log on, an error message appears saying that Gnome Communications (? i think thats what it said) center didn't configure properly and to contact the computer administrator.
I use FC9. Yesterday after system update I turned of the computer, but today when it booted the wireless didn't work, ndiswrapper device wlan0:1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization.I have removed and again installed the wireless driver and looks like it is ok,
[root@localhost utils]# ./ndiswrapper -r bcmwl6 [root@localhost utils]# ./ndiswrapper -i /fatfs/Archiv/Softwere/Drivers/Dr_software/bcmwl6.inf installing bcmwl6 ... [root@localhost utils]# after ndiwwrapper -m it gives warning( or error )[root@localhost utils]# ./ndiswrapper -m module configuration already contains alias directive [Code]....

I until yesterday when trying to configure the wireless (broadcom) on my laptop could browse the internet and install packages normally. but now none of the connections are working
I have recently installed Ubuntu Karmic on my laptop, which also has Windows 7. It now has GRUB, and I have been able to modify some settings via the GRUB command line. However, these changes are not permanent; they are reset the next time I load GRUB. I have seen many people trying to configure GRUB who have been pointed towards /boot/grub/menu.lst. I expect it would) I went to edit that file... and discovered that it did not exist. I am certain that I am using GRUB, not some other bootloader. Is there another possible way to configure GRUB, or somewhere else I might look for this file?
The Network manager didn't recognize my eth0 device as a maned device. In shell I can use my eth0 but not by Gnome Network Manager. My device is nVidia Corporation MCP67 Ethernet [10de:054c] (rev a2) and I'm running a Fedora 11. On previous version like, Fedora 10 an 9 this board was managed normally by network manager.Anyone already set up this board on Network Manager ?My Notebook is a HP dv2736us and I'm using a Fedora 11 64bits.
I set up a vnc connection to my machine the other day and while doing that checked out any open ports. To my astonishment my ftp port is open, although I double checked the firewall and there's no check in the checkbox for the ftp port. I didn't add a "other ports" rule or anything as well. So, how would I be able to fix that?
I just upgrade my Fedora 14 to Fedora 15 RC1.I found the critical issue for me that Juniper Network connect(SSL VPN) didn't work for me again.I wonder if the network interface name changed impact this, but I am not sure about it as I didn't see any obviously error.I can connect the VPN auth page with my username and password after I switch my Java plugin to Sun JRE( I use google Chrome). As the Java VPN applet started, it appeared for a while and shutdown again. I think the VPN auth has been passed at that time, the problem might about creating the VPN Tunnel.
How to configure Red Hat IP. Here's what I'm trying to do use linux as a web server and at the same time connect the linux machine to local area network. So I need to configure one static ip such as 203......... and then 192.........
I have a linux machine with 3 NICs, one for the local net and the other 2 for 2 different ISP's which i want to load balance.
I configured Load Balance on my linux box using iproute2 and what i found in this site [URL].
Im able to reach the internet using that box, but when i configure a pc from the local net with the linux machine as the gateway im not able to reach the internet.
The problem seems to be NAT concerned, so i was wondering, how can i configure PAT using iproute2 to get this result: -I want load balance to take place, and that translation occurs after the linux router decides through which interface (of the 2 i have configured to my ISP's) the packet is going out. (i dont know if that is possible)
Using Fedora 15 with Gnome 3 I am unable to configure a new network connection as the configure button is greyed out.I use a network without DHCP thus auto-connect is useless and I must enter the network configuration myself. This was simple to do in Gnome 2.x but is impossible in Gnome 3 as the configure button is greyed out when your not 'connected' to the network. Also when the auto-connect fails it switches the NIC 'off'.How am I meant to connect to a network requiring manual configuration when I can only configure networks I am already connected to?FYI: I have edited the configuration of other networks which do utilise DHCP but only after the initial connection was established by DHCP.
I just got a new wireless router (Asus WL-520GC). I can connect to the Internet, but I can't access 192.168.1.1 to configure the router (this is the correct address, according to the manual). It doesn't respond to a ping either.
I have setup dns on my rhel 5 server. It is working fine. My dhcp server is setup on my sonic firewall. The sonic firewall hands out our IP addresses. My dns server sees the static IP addresses but how do I get name resolution setup for dhcp?
I got an application deployed on Websphere Application Server on SUSE Linux V 10. We are accessing the application using the IP address in the URL. Please let me know how to configure the DNS, so that we can use the Host name in the URL and the Host name is automatically mapped to the IP address.
Also I have another question, lets say I am connected to an AP but DHCP is disabled, also there is running web interface on AP throught I can set up DHCP and obtain IP address. How do I know what is IP of the AP which I am connected, is there a solution or I have to reset AP ?
can anyone tell me the difference between the linux ad-hoc connection and window ad-hoc connection .....is it possible to make ad-hoc connection in fedora 14 if it so. how to setup ad-hoc connection between two laptop.
