Can you "split" a network interface in Ubuntu, similar to how airmon-ng lets you use your wireless card in managed and monitor mode, by making another interface out of the same hardware? I know it'd be slower, but I'd still like to do it.

I had some trouble with the netinst CD and I had to install lenny with the 6DVDs instead. My internet connection only works after I edit the interfaces and resolv.conf files manually. So my question is: can I do that from the netinst CD before it actually needs the connection to install everything? (otherwise I'll just need to use the DVDs.

Is there a way to add the wireless network which has a WPA/WPA2/certificate + Peap+MsChap+user+password to /etc/network/interfaces? Am trying to do a bash script that asks user and password and dumps it with addition info such as Peap/Mschapv2/cert into /etc/network/interfaces so it could be automatically activated. Any Ideas? Am on ubuntu 10.04 - using the GUI network-manager it connects without any problem after adding the user/pass/cert/mschapv2/peap. But I wanted to be configured thru command line?

I have a weird issue that I have not seen on any forum. My jaunty on DELL studio laptop seems connected to net, but I can not access any network service (ssh, firefox etc.). But when I connect a cable the cable lights blink as it should be and in wireless connection my wifi light blinks.
It was working 2 days ago without problem, and I have not done big changes recently.I removed and reinstalled network-manager and network-manager-gnome. Nothing changed. I see a message in each restart as follows (when Openafs is starting). I can reproduce it with "/etc/init.d/openafs-client restart"
Code:
ADVISEADDR:error in specifying interfaces: no existing ip interfaces found
#lspci
Code:

one of these "WiFi works in Gnome, not in KDE" threads, but I have been all over google and hundreds of threads across different sites and can't figure this one out.As mentioned, wireless is peachy in Gnome, unfortunately I like KDE and I'm more productive using it (when I have internet). So, after installing Lucid wireless doesn't work for me. When I click on the network icon on the status bar, it shows "wireless is disabled".
With that message, I press the wifi button on my HP laptop and it turns off my blue-tooth, without changing the status of my wifi.
I found this rfkill command in another thread:
Before doing anything, after bootup:
Code:
$ rfkill list

Hard blocked: no

I'm having trouble getting this wireless card to work. I installed the broadcom-wl driver on Fedora 12.
Code:
[xxx@localhost ~]$ uname -r
2.6.31.6-145.fc12.x86_64
[xxx@localhost ~]$ lsmod | grep wl
wl 1278432 0
lib80211 6436 2 lib80211_crypt_tkip,wl
The card is recognized by System--admin--network as the correct card (BCM43XG) and assigned eth1. However, NetworkManager shows no wireless network. I have a great signal on the same machine if I boot into a Windows partition.

Ubuntu 10.04 fresh install 64bit. Wireless was working in 9.10, now does not even show up in restricted drivers. Installed bcwl-kernel-source, and b43-fwcutter. ifconfig, iwconfig only show eth0 and lo - no wlan
Other restricted drivers show up - using NVIDIA driver with Compiz running better than ever on 2 screens
Here is the output from the collectNWData script found at [url]
I do notice that in the firmware section that both b43 and b43legacy are listed. Somewhere I reads that I should be using b43 - not the legacy version. Should it be blacklisted?

I installed CentOS 5.4 on my desktop yesterday after facing crashes from Ubuntu 9.04 Everything worked fine and few didn't which I could resolve, but this problem is absolutely strange to me. I've USB wireless adaptor Belkin F5D7050 v4000 which uses a zydas zd1211 chipset. The problem is that I've not been able to connect to internet or even in the local network. (I've this another Laptop (Windows Vista) which can connect to internet and thus I can post and download stuff.)
I read the CentOS wiki [URL] to setup the wireless network and it asked me to download a firmware for it.. I downloaded and installed the firmware from the specified location but to no respite and I can't connect to network. now the strange thing is the result of iwconfig which was here even before installing the firmware. iwconfig shows

I'm new to Ubuntu and i set up my wireless myself and I think I may have put in wrong settings. I looked through the forum and found these commands to put in the terminal from other posts. Could someone please see if they can fathom what I've done wrong. I have an wG111v2 netgear usb which works fine in windows but is very sluggish on Ubuntu. It worked for a while but since i have deleted and reinstalled my wireless numerous times I now can't get iternet at all. I have Ubuntu 9.10 on my machine which I duel boot with winXP.

I just installed Ubuntu on my windows pc with no problems....except for wireless that is. I have a USB Linksys WUSB54G adapter to access my 2WIRE, WEP network. The thing is, it shows up in the top right hand corner. It even gives me the signal strength. But when it comes to using Mozilla, it is never able to access a page. If I try to Ping something, it's unable to. So I thought maybe I need to use ndiswrapper with my .inf and .sys files from the driver for my windows. I installed it, and added the driver to it...everything went O.K. I check it and it says it's installed and working. Again, I can see the wireless networks, and "connect" but when I try to use the connection there is nothing. I have also tried my neighbours non-WEP connection, but it still doesn't work. So I'm sort of at a loss with what I should do now. I see the networks, can "connect" but can't browse. I installed the drivers from my windows, and it still doesn't work. I used a LIVE CD of Knoppix and I can connect to the Network within 30 seconds and start browsing the net.

I have installed the Broadcom B43 Wireless drive from Adminstration->Hardware drivers. No help! ifconfig does not
show eth1 and lspci tells me that the Broadcom BCM4312 Network controller is present.

I am having an issue with a newly installed 9.10 version of Unbuntu. After a bit of fiddling about, I have found that the only way I can connect to my wireless network is if I unsecure the network. Is there any explaination for why it will not work with either WEP or WPA?

I've got a Dell Inspiron mini 10 that has the Broadcom 4322 wireless chipset in it. I have NEVER got this thing to work satisfactorily despite the numerous tutorials online about getting this damned card to work. I thought everything would finally be fixed with 10.04 but no luck at all. I've tried the b43 diver (which isn't supposed to support the 4322) with no luck.
I also tried the restricted STA driver, which seems like it will work as it identifies networks and even connects to them! However, the speed is excruciatingly slow and connections drop like flies. This netbook is actually a friends that I convinced to let me put Ubuntu on and have them try it out, but they are most surely not going to be impressed if the wireless never works.
