I just installed Fedora 13 from the Live CD. FIrst off I read the guide and the first step doesn't even work for me. System>Administration>Network does not exist. If I go to System then Preferences I see a Network Manager but it looks nothing like what these screen shots look like. [url]
No wireless card show up in the wireless tab of Network Manager. How can I fix this since my card is listed in ifconfig and iwconfig. Wifi card is a Zonet zew2500p
The nm-applet starts automatically as it should, and also tries to connect to the local, wireless LAN, but always fails its first attempt. If I click the icon and ask nm-applet to connect again, it always succeeds.
The server, running the wireless LAN, never sees the first attempt to connect, so no wonder this attempt fails. But it would be nice to make it succeed!
I'm on Fedora core 14 linux. and I'm online with the HSPDA modem. My modem is /dev/ttyUSB0 and when it's dialed it creates the interface /dev/ppp0 , My question is when I hit ifcofig it shows two IP addresses in the ppp0 interface.

when I get the routing table, the gateway is setten to the 10.64.64.64 and when I look my Ip address global I found it's 175.157.64.119.
I messed up my Network Connections when I put a different NIC in my computer. Now I just went back to using the old NIC. It shows up in ifconfig, but the GUI Network Connections is blank. Again...to access by my static ip, y can access my page by its dns on my server, but I cant access from other computer...so, I guess when my static adress appears on ifconfig I would be able to access my page from other computer...

I have an Atheros AR928X Wireless Adapter (built in to laptop). I can connect to net works with nm-applet fine, but when I use iwconfig, There are no changes. Example:

shows no changes, not even when I set the access point to the right address.
left to its own devices my wireless connects at too low a speed. I have a 20meg internet connection and my wireless is slowing it down to like 3meg. When I reboot into windows it's fine. When I run iwconfig eth1 rate 11M or even 24M the connection is much faster and runs fine, why won't it automatically go higher? Is this the fault of the driver? I am running Broadcom's driver compiled from source. Also, how can I set it to 24M at boot?
Edit: I guess I can put iwconfig eth1 rate 24M in rc.local, but I'd still like to get auto running higher, especially as my signal should be pretty good. Output from iwconfig white rate=auto:

My connection manager shows wired connections and shows wireless as being disabled. here is some terminal info getting wireless going?

In our family we have an Eee PC / in Windows7 and openSUSE 11.4 everything is working. In Mint 10 Gnome 64 and 32 bit and Fedora 14 Gnome 32 bit we don t have wireless with persistent USB. iwconfig > no wireless and Networkmanager does not show wireless.

I've been trying now for 2 days to get my WUSB600N v1 adapter installed on 10.04. I'm a bit of a noob but have been able to follow some posts on here on getting it set up. This is what I've done:
Installed the Ralink RT2870 drivers. Changed the config.mk to enable some parameters. Compiled and installed. Added some entries to blacklist.conf. Updated network/interfaces to include my wpa settings and passphrase. Restarted/rebooted/reinstalled about 100 times!
Here's what happens: iwconfig shows wlan0 with an ESSID:"" and Nickname: "RT2870STA" iwlist wlan0 scan shows my router fine (although does not show Cell 02 which should be the 5GHZ range). So basically it's not connecting to my router. Not sure if I missed any steps. Will gladly provide some extra output if needed. Pulling my hair out over this now ready to throw the adapter in the trash.
I have just upgraded my system to Fedora 14. One thing I noticed after running some applications on it is that it is not possible anymore to figure out on what frequency a wireless interface is using. If I set a wireless interface to monitor mode and perform the iwconfig or iwlist command, in the past, I could see the frequency used on the interface, but now, this information is not present anymore. My wireless interfaces are in monitor mode.
Has the frequency information been removed from iwconfig or iwlist commands? If it has, is there another way to report this information?

View 4 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 9.04 with working wlan. I had to restart router & wap. It doesn't seem to ever retry to connect. I know my router & wap are good, I have wireless working on other laptop (running Puppy) I had to go into 'edit connections' in drop down and use 'wireless' tab then edit 'wireless connection 1' and hit 'apply' is there a better way to do this? also, no connections show up with command 'iwconfig' edit: with ifconfig, eth1 si showing data my ip address and packets sent & rcvd. I think I'll try do duplicate this event and use 'ifconfig eth1 down' and then up again to see if it reconnects.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe adapter I purchased (Zonet ZEW2508 ) uses the Ralink 2070 chipset - a fact that originally excited me because Ralink seems to be fairly loving to the Linux community. However, despite my best efforts I can't get the thing to work. Initially I tried following directions to set up the driver you can download from the Ralink website. The directions I found were written February first, and Ralink updated the driver February eighth - so as far as I can tell the directions no longer work. After screwing around trying to figure that out for a while I decided to give ndiswrapper a go.
Initially this seemed promising. I just harvested the drivers from the CD and followed one of the many ndiswrapper directions available - most helpful seemed initially to be the Ndiswrapper Troubleshooting Guide found in this forum, however the solutions offered there didn't work either. When I throw an ndiswrapper -l into the terminal it looks promising at first, it tells me the driver is installed and the device is present, but it just doesn't work. When I try iwconfig, or iwlist scan it tells me "no wireless extensions," and "interface doesn't support scanning" respectively. The only devices even listed are lo, eth0, and pan0. There's no wlan0 or anything of the sort.
3 computers in the house run various windows based programs and everything is fine with them connecting to the internet as far as putting in the security password to log in and get online.My old back up computer that I use in the basement that has Ubuntu 9.10 was working fine with the secured network situation up until today.I booted up the computer this morning and it automatically connected as it typically does and I was reading some email and then the computer froze, which on rare occasions it does.
Upon reboot I got a window that asked for the password for the Network Manager Applet which I supplied and then it asked for the password for the secured internet connection which I supplied.It would not connect. After numerous tries of disabling the wireless and enabling the wireless and entering the Network Manager Applet password and the secured internet password I still get no connection.
I notice that when it is trying to connect, the window comes up on the screen that shows that there is reception from the modem, but there is also a little "lock" icon like I'm locked out of the connection.I finally found a way to get rid of the Network Manager Applet password problem but that still didn't alleviate the connection problem.

I reckon *-network DISABLED is a problem, I tried sudo ifconfig wlan0 up but that didn't work. The output of that and lspci are on the ubuntu side of my machine. I have also tried pressing my wireless on/off key (F2) but that doesn't work either.
I have done the follow steps.
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
sudo iwlist wlan0 scan (I see my access point without problem)
then...
sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid MY_ESSID key s:MY_PASSWORD
I get the follow error:

I used s: because I want to pass and ASCII password.
So, after installing Lucid wireless doesn't work for me. When I click on the network icon on the status bar, it shows "wireless is disabled".
With that message, I press the wifi button on my HP laptop and it turns off my blue-tooth, without changing the status of my wifi.

I do notice that in the firmware section that both b43 and b43legacy are listed. Somewhere I reads that I should be using b43 - not the legacy version. Should it be blacklisted?
I just installed Slackware 13.1 on my Asus 1215T, and I've been trying to get it to connect to my wireless network in my home. When I type iwconfig I get no wireless extensions, and ifconfig returns only lo, no wlan0. I read the Slackbook wiki and tried to configure the inet1.conf and wireless.conf but still no luck...

I looked through the forum and found these commands to put in the terminal from other posts. Could someone please see if they can fathom what I've done wrong. I have an wG111v2 netgear usb which works fine in windows but is very sluggish on Ubuntu. It worked for a while but since i have deleted and reinstalled my wireless numerous times I now can't get iternet at all. I have Ubuntu 9.10 on my machine which I duel boot with winXP.

I just installed Ubuntu on my windows pc with no problems....except for wireless that is. I have a USB Linksys WUSB54G adapter to access my 2WIRE, WEP network. The thing is, it shows up in the top right hand corner. It even gives me the signal strength. But when it comes to using Mozilla, it is never able to access a page. If I try to Ping something, it's unable to. So I thought maybe I need to use ndiswrapper with my .inf and .sys files from the driver for my windows. I installed it, and added the driver to it...everything went O.K. I check it and it says it's installed and working. Again, I can see the wireless networks, and "connect" but when I try to use the connection there is nothing. I have also tried my neighbours non-WEP connection, but it still doesn't work. So I'm sort of at a loss with what I should do now. I see the networks, can "connect" but can't browse. I installed the drivers from my windows, and it still doesn't work. I used a LIVE CD of Knoppix and I can connect to the Network within 30 seconds and start browsing the net.

In this case, network manager shows wireless disabled. I have installed the Broadcom B43 Wireless drive from Adminstration->Hardware drivers. No help! ifconfig does not
show eth1 and lspci tells me that the Broadcom BCM4312 Network controller is present.
I've beenhaving some trouble getting my wireless network card working on my Slackware 12 box. Currently it identifies the card and can scan for networks, but I can't seem to join a network. Here's some output:

It doesn't seem to be accepting the essid setting, and it's giving an error for the key setting. Also, I'm noticing an inconsistency in the wireless protocols. The AP claims that it's 802.11g with rates up to 54 Mb/s. But it should be 802.11n. It's an Apple Airport Extreme and the Radio Mode is set to Automatic and displays "802.11a/n-02.11b/g/n" on the Airport Utility. The interface also claims that it's 802.11g, though shows a rate of 300 Mb/s. It's a Belkin "Play" Wireless USB Adapter (F7D4101).
(Note: I'm using ndiswrapper and the WinXP drivers which were installed from the Belkin software.)
I'm having trouble getting this wireless card to work. I installed the broadcom-wl driver on Fedora 12.
