Networking :: Update Tcp Checksum After Modifying IP Address?
Jan 31, 2009
I am writing a program which modifies source IP address of packet before writing this packet to tap interface. I face only one problem with tcp checksum. I have current checksum, to get new checksum, I add new source IP address and add one complement of old source IP address. That is, I update checksum with difference of old and new source IP address. It sounds not bad but does not work.

I have a problem. When I start Yast, and it tries to download the update repository, there is a checksum error. The problem is, that this error is always there, it occured about 2 weeks ago and never disappeared. When I change the update repository to a specific one, I chose a german one, there is still that checksum error. If I say yast I want to still use the repository with the error, there comes another checksum error, if i say i dont care about that one either, it says
Code:
"Download failed:./repodata/primary.xml.gz could not be retrieved from http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.2/Progress:-[DownloadCommand.cc:195] caught EOF from server"

I updated one of my x64 notebooks that has been offline for about a week. There were several updates needed. Towards the end of the update I got a message something about could not complete update because one of the updates was waiting for another process/update to complete.
I verified that it was still trying to update by opening terminal window. After I closed the info box which had a white minus sign it it and reran to check for updates, it said everything was up to date.
How can I be sure that the update in question was applied? Unfortunately don't remember which one. Is there a checksum run at the end of the updates to unsure the update is properly applied? All seems to be working fine.

I change the interfaces file to activate the DHCP service for my eth0.
How do I make the service active without booting the system. In other word, how do I run the modified interfaces file?

Every time I do a fresh install, there are a number of manual config things to change. One of them is to modify /etc/hosts to add the local IP addresses to a computer name. Can this be done via the Ubuntu networking somehow ? It would be nice not to have to change some of these config files.

I'm curious as to what defines the SNMP trap info sent by switches? I would like to get updates on 802.1x authentication and state of switches (all manufacturers if possible). Is the data sent via traps determined by the manufacturer or is it possible to modify/select it from the switch MIB?

what I have: Belkin G Wireless Router Model F5D7234-4. To attempt to get Subsonic working, I changed the port forwarding settings (Belkin calls it Virtual Servers) to forward port 4040 to my desktop computer. I then saved changes, and my wireless disconnected. I waited about 3 minutes, and nothing was happening, so I restarted my router. This left me in the position that I am in now. Even when the router and modem are fully booted, the router does not broadcast my SSID. In addition, a wired connection will not connect to the network through the router. This leaves me completely unable to use wireless, and unable to change any settings in the router.

Currently my OS is Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope Desktop OS and my web server is Apache2. I have a public address 60.x.y.z and my pc local address is 10.x.y.z. I have a web app in my Apache2 which currently run in localhost(10.x.y.z).
I would like to enable the web app so that it could be browse from outside. I know there maybe some port forwarding process and some commands involved in order to do that. But I have no idea on the steps to do that.

Version 10.04 LTS. Installed desktop version and network worked but I needed a static IP address and the install configures for a DHCP configured address. I tried changing to static address using the System->Preferences->Network Connections application but was unable to get the system to come up with the network up.
So I manually modified the /etc/network/interfaces and the /etc/resolv.conf files. I restart the system but when I do an ifconfig, I don't see a configured IP address on eth0 (only the loopback address). If I run /sbin/ifup eth0 everything then works fine and ifconfig shows the correct address bound to eth0.
My files are as follows:

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and I'm having problems trying to assign it a static IP address. No matter what I put in the Preferences->Networking area (identifying the interface as Manual)... it still will query DHCP for an address if I run the dhclient command. I'm using to using ubuntu server where I just set the IP in the interfaces config file.

I am running my own Postfix mail server. Some time ago I noticed that most email was rejected because of the server's dynamic IP address. So I got a fixed IP address. However then I noticed that some mails got rejected due to failing the reverse DNS check. So my ISP told me to get a range of IP addresses and they could then create a PTR record for one of those addresses. That is now running but it turns out that the IP address used for the PTR record is a ... dynamic IP address. So Spamhaus PBL rejects my emails again.

I have a dedicated control computer that can only be accessed with web-browser (with its ip-address). My DHCP-server gives a static ip-address to the control computer (base on its mac-address). Somehow and after some time the control computer looses its ip-address (can't ping to it any more) ... and then I have to reset the control computer to get it to pick up the ip-address ... this is not a good solution since the control computer is not nearby. is there a way to force the control computer to renew its ip-address based on its mac-address

My security software has picked up multiple port scanning detections on my router/network and only the IP addresses are available. Is it possible to find out what the remote mac address is to see if the IP source has been spoofed? I've got a couple of different IP sources which were found scanning my ports.
I don't know if my IP and the remote IP address are on the same network or subnet for that matter which is the reason for my wanting to know what the mac address is to find out if its coming from the same remote machine.

I am trying to update from F12 to F13. After following the guide from Fedora, I rebooted and it attempted to download the update. The download got to about 55 - 65% when a message about running out of space appears. The install then asks for an IP address to use so that it can download the updates as needed instead of all at once. I have been searching but not been able to find the IP address in question.

I have DDNS configured and working for dynamic addresses, but it's not quite right for static addresses yet. The DHCP server assigns the static address, but it doesn't update the DNS sever with the associated host name. Which means I have to use the IP address when accessing the host instead of the host name. How can I get the DHCP server to update the DNS with the host name associated with the fixed-address?Here is my current dhcpd.conf.
Code:
ddns-update-style interim;
ignore client-updates;

Basically I am trying to add a new driver[megasr] into the ISO image, hence performed the following :
1. Mounted the RHEl5.4 ISO image
2. Copied the initrd.img to a temporary directory, performed changes to add the new driver in the modules.cgs, updated the corresponding files and recreated the modules.cgz file module-info modules.alias modules.cgz modules.dep pci.ids
3. Copied back the newly created initrd.img file into the isolinux folder.
I tried to burn the ISO and install it, but it seems that the new driver does not get loaded. I am unaware of any other changes?

How can I become root outside of the terminal? I want to be able to manipulate the file system (i.e. move files, delete files, rename files) in the file viewer GUI (not sure what it's called; I'd say "Windows Explorer" if I were talking about Windows).
Also, how can I manipulate (move, delete, copy, rename) files inside the terminal?
I do understand how to move around (change the working directory) in the terminal, and how to become root in the terminal, and naturally I understand how to move, copy, blah blah blah. I know the basic basics (just letting you know, I'm not the type of person who knows less about computers than a rock does).

When I installed ubuntu on an HD with an existing OS it placed GRUB in the MBR without asking. Maybe there was an option that I missed? How do you I tell the installer to confine itself to the install partition and leave the MBR alone? (I'll use the system BIOS to select the boot partition).

Hi All,
I am using legacy grub(0.9.7) as my boot loader. I want to add some code into GRUB stage1. But I am getting following error.
stage1.S: Assembler messages:
stage1.S:591: Error: attempt to move .org backwards
stage1.S:603: Error: attempt to move .org backwards
make[2]: *** [stage1.o] Error 1
It seems like Stage1 code is starting after BPB only. Is it possible to use BPB section for GRUB stage1 (GRUB is installed in HDD)??
If yes, how to change the code start to BPB section??
