Ubuntu :: 9.1 With Samba - Deny Directory Listing

Mar 19, 2010

I have set up Ubuntu 9.1 with Samba etc. as a web server. The files are in /var/www and are shared through Samba as web. The root directory and sub directories have index.htm files in them but unfortunately except for the root directory users can see the directory listing rather than the directory automatically producing index.htm. This is obviously causing security problems. How to prevent directory browsing by users coming into the server over the internet by a redirect URL from another site. E.g. [URL] where bigwebsite is a domain registered with a change ip server because I have a service which dynamically allocates an IP Address.

Networking :: Samba File/Folder Sharing ?

I am running OpenSuse 11. It runs Apache webserver and Samba for filesharing. I am also running webmin. Everything works 100%. I have 2 shared folders that can be accessed by everyone. My question is how can I log in to the shared folder from a windows machine when I set the permissions for only a certain user to log in. My system hostname is Linux.site and my user is henk. I am not sure how I need to log in that way. Should the username be Linux.sitehenk ...

Fedora Networking :: Can't Share A Folder On Samba Network?

Jul 12, 2011

In this post I will give a quick solution for a possible problem with sharing a folder in Fedora 15.I had to spend some time for research and frustration so, hopefully this post will save you from both. If you have Samba installed and configured to share certain folders on your Fedora machine for a Windows network but, they can't be accessed then following might solve the problem:

1. Go to Applications, Other and run FIREWALL

a). go to TRUSTED SERVICES and check SAMBA and SAMBA CLIENT that are located in the list of services
b). click APPLY
c). go to ICMP FILTER and check ECHO REPLY (PONG) and ECHO REQUEST (PING)
c). click APPLY

[Code]...

If your Samba is configured correctly, your shared folder should be available on your Windows network.A little hint: if you don't want other users to use passwords for accessing your shared folder, select SHARE as an Authentication Mode in Samba GUI Configuration Tool, Preferences, Server Settings, Security

Networking :: Samba On F13 - No Permission To Access Shared Folder

Aug 29, 2010

I have a Linux Box running Fedora 13, it has Samba installed, and I have configured it, I also have a Windoze 7 PC, I want to be able to access the Windoze PC's files from my Linux Box, and vice versa, but when I try to open the Windoze PC in the network on my Linux Box, it asks for my Username and Password, I enter them, the box goes away then pops back up asking for them again... and on the Windoze PC, I find my Linux on the network, open it, it asks for my username and password, I enter them, and it lets me in, but then when I try opening my shared folder, it gives me: "You do not have permission to access \LINUX Shared Folder. Contact your network administrator to request access".

Ubuntu Networking :: Access To Samba Shared Folder With Password

I have created a shared folder via nautilus. I can not access it, because it asks me for user name and password again and again. I'm sure both username and password are exactly right. But I can not access the folder. Only when I check "Allow guest user access" it will allow me to access my data, Which is not secure enough for me.

Ubuntu Networking :: Mounting A Samba Share On Two Machines - Can't Place Anything Into The Folder

Apr 24, 2011

I'm having some trouble mounting a Samba share on my two Ubuntu machines. The Samba share is setup so that all files are readable and writable by everyone (it's only accessible via the local network). When I create a new folder on the share with either of my Ubuntu machines, the folder becomes non-writable by anyone ie. I can't place anything into the folder. I'm using the following command to mount the share:

[Code].....

I think the problem is with the way I'm mounting the share on my Ubuntu machines. If I go to the share using smb://192.168.1.160 in a file browser, I can create new folders which are readable and writable by everyone. But, if I create the new folder where it's mounted at /mnt/backup, no-one can modify or change it.

Ubuntu Networking :: User Can't Append To Files In Samba Shared Folder

Jun 18, 2010

I'm setting up a network between 2 pc's where the one should act like "file server" and a normal pc to surf on internet.called ORLA-DESKTOP and the other pc is called OLGA-DESKTOP a pc connecting to the server and automounting the shared folder to the desktop Both pc's run ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx The shared folder is located on the server in /home/orla/svenson

ORLA-DESKTOP have 2 users "olga" and "orla" in a group called "svenson"
OLGA-DESKTOP have 1 registered user "olga" also in group called "svenson"

users on ORLA-DESKTOP can read/write/append and so on and fully manage everything in the shared folder. But on OLGA-DESKTOP the user can make a file on the pc and then drag'n'drop the file the the shared folder, and can also delete files in the shared folder. but cannot create a file directly into the folder like on ORLA-DESKTOP I have 3 configuration files made. 2 for automounting, Located on OLGA-DESKTOP 1 for samba server configurations located on the server ORLA-DESKTOP

The first one is /etc/fstab

Code:

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid -o value -s UUID' to print the universally unique identifier
# for a device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name
# devices that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).

[code]....

To sum it all up the real problem is that OLGA-DESKTOP can't append to files in the shared folder. but users on the server have no troubles doing it..

Ubuntu Servers :: Samba - Access Folder To Delete Or Restore From The Recycle Bin Folder

Apr 24, 2010

I'm using ubuntu server 9.10 for a home build NAS. Everything is working great just have one more thing to figure out. I have Samba set up to access my files and I set up a recycle feature so anything deleted will get moved to a Recycled folder. (I learned this the hard way after hitting delete key by accident while browsing the shares in windows. Lost 100 GB of data)

Now it is for the most part working but the permissions on folders isn't getting set right. If I delete a file in a share I can go to Recycle bin folder and delete the file for good. But if I delete a folder I can not access that folder to delete or restore from the Recycle bin folder. I have to chmod the folder before I can do anything with it. Anything I can change to get folders deleted via windows to have the right permissions when it is moved to the Recycle bin folder?

[Code]///

Ubuntu :: Folder Permissions In A Samba Share?

i have an old desktop that i have decided to use as a central point for localhost/website files. I have 2 laptops, a ubuntu and vista, and i want them both to be able to see the public_html folder on my desktop, and be able to create/update folders and files.

I have set up the samba sharing and that's working fine, but when i create folders using my laptop, they are not writeable to the desktop or other laptop because my laptop is the creator. Is there a way that I can set it so that whenever folders/files are created from either laptop, they have full permissions?

Server :: Samba And NTFS Folder Permissions

Nov 17, 2010

I have a file server setup with samba integrated with swat management. The server isn't a domain controller. The file server is working well with the shares all working correctly except for one problem. I would like the users be able to manage the folder permissions from a windows PC. This can be done from a login as the root user if need be but, the key is that the system be manageable from the windows PC.

I have followed the instructions of multiple how to's but still get and error that access is denied when trying to apply permissions. I am able to search the server for users to add and the names resolve. What are the configurations that I should be looking at where the NT permissions in samba are configured. nt acl support is set to yes and any other acl settings used produce the same result.

Networking :: Manager Not Listing All Networks / Doesn't Show Them In The List When Left Click The Tray Icon?

Now, my main router's signal still reaches to my office, just not as strong as the borked router in my office. I need to be able to choose which wifi network to connect to without wasting time walking between rooms. I added entries for both in network-manager, but it doesn't show them in the list when I left click the tray icon! How the do I connect to the network I want?
