View 1 RepliesI would like to configure an access to folder
/fileserver
for two services : Samba and VSFTPD
How to do it ? How to create folder rights that samba and ftp user will have an access (read/write/delete) to all directories in /fileserver.
My system is CentOS. I`m starting samba and vsftpd like a root (/etc/init.d/vsftpd start etc.)
that is we have many users and most users can go in most file and in that file there are few sub folders and only handful of the can enter that sub folder but I don't know to to do
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe problem I am facing is, with the Samba server configuration.I have configured Samba server with a folder shared between server and client machines. I have tried downloading data from the shared folder on the server to the client machine which is successfully downloaded, however I am not able to upload any data to the shared folder in the samba server.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a file server setup with samba integrated with swat management. The server isn't a domain controller. The file server is working well with the shares all working correctly except for one problem. I would like the users be able to manage the folder permissions from a windows PC. This can be done from a login as the root user if need be but, the key is that the system be manageable from the windows PC.
I have followed the instructions of multiple how to's but still get and error that access is denied when trying to apply permissions. I am able to search the server for users to add and the names resolve. What are the configurations that I should be looking at where the NT permissions in samba are configured. nt acl support is set to yes and any other acl settings used produce the same result.
Lately I'm getting this question a lot.For every project I want to create a tree like this:
Code:
- project
- drawing

I have everything networked properly, as far as I can tell, both computers see each other... I can use putty to port in and use my Linux machine (Debian 4). When I go to map network drive on my XP machine, I can see the computer, but not the shared folder. After some googling I found that i have to create my Windows user name ont he Linux machine as a user as well. Unforunately, that user is 'Administrator'. So I told Linux to force user, and it created it, and did smbpasswd command and added the user to the samba list. Still nothing.
View 14 Replies View Relatedi have created an folder inside my redhat server. and i shared it via samba and mapped that shared folders inside 5 windows machine. now the problem i am facing is, if any one create a file in that mapped drive the other user cant edit that same file. but he can read it. only for files not folders.
i gave full permission to that folders and subfolders and in smb file i gave readable writable browsable permissions. and i disabled se linux and firewall
On one of my Samba shares on my server I have a folder of mp3 files of my CDs. The one I am having an issue with is "Clarence Carter/Dr. C.C." (yes, the one with the ULTIMATE party song). The "Dr. C.C." folder name is normal locally on the server, but across Samba it comes out "DMOU3A~H". It's definitely Samba doing it, because I get the same result whether accessing the share from Linux or Windoze. I can still access the folder this way, but it would be nice to not have Samba mangle the folder name this way. I am using Samba 3.4.2 on an Athlon64 X2 system running Slackware64.

I spent all day learning some concepts of Samba which I left while preparing for RHCE.One of them is how to permanently mount (fstab entry) windows shared folder.Manually mount command is running fine for me.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using ubuntu server 9.10 for a home build NAS. Everything is working great just have one more thing to figure out. I have Samba set up to access my files and I set up a recycle feature so anything deleted will get moved to a Recycled folder. (I learned this the hard way after hitting delete key by accident while browsing the shares in windows. Lost 100 GB of data)
Now it is for the most part working but the permissions on folders isn't getting set right. If I delete a file in a share I can go to Recycle bin folder and delete the file for good. But if I delete a folder I can not access that folder to delete or restore from the Recycle bin folder. I have to chmod the folder before I can do anything with it. Anything I can change to get folders deleted via windows to have the right permissions when it is moved to the Recycle bin folder?

I installed samba server in my external HDD. But it is not shown in system ----> Administration. Is there any problem. Then How to give permission to access home folder.
View 3 Replies View Relatedrecently we decided to make our own panel (like Plesk or cPanel) but for Ubuntu and it will be licenced under GPL (like any other professional sofware).want to make a panel not only that fits our needs but also the needs of other system administrators and domain owners. We researched other panels and found out that non of them has security/look/ease of use in one package. Bad codig is another problem found in other panels.I made a short overwiev of what I think we have to have in the beginning.I Security :1. Completely chroot enviornoment where every single service is in chroot mode (bind, mysql, postfix, .... )2. Easily managed IPtables trough web-based interface. 3. Coding rules has to be strict.

I have been having off and on issues with my samba file shares. I am sharing a NTFS formated hard drive where the mount point is in my home directory, as well as a printer connected via USB. I am to the point where printing works (using it as an ipp print share, samba is configured for it, but I don't know if it works or not), and I can access the shared folder from Windows, but I can't access the shared folder from any Ubuntu machine. I get the error:

I need to know is there any way to record or tracking or make logging if when user samba delete files or folders i can know that, cause sometimeon samba server some users complain they lost files, though i have daily backup and i can restore their files, i just want to know if or maybe some other users in one group accidentally move or delete the files.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a chrooted account setup for my ssh server. However, I am trying to allow this user read only access to access on a mounted hard-drive and more specifically a specific folder from that mounted drive. I would also like to have this drive be mounted for me in my normal environment with write access.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with a Chrooted SFTP User not being able to write files.
The permissions are setup correctly as if I remove the Chroot the user can write files correctly.
User has a transfer folder which they should be able to write files to and read from, this works correctly until I apply the snippet from sshd_config file below then the user can only read files. I have tried tweaking the permissions but this doesn't seem to have helped at all.code...
I see this questioned asked a lot and figured this tutorialThis tutorial explains how to create an SFTP server which confines (or chroot) users to their own home directory and deny them shell access.

I have to rename a group of machines in my little samba domain (tbd backend) but there is an ugly bug that makes this impossible. have set 'rename user script' variable corectly, also checked all configurations. When i change computer name in my windows box, it shows an error saying something like "Error calling remote procedure"Looking on server side, username for the machine gets correctly changed in /usr/passwd, and also in samba database. But samba log says:

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have an old desktop that i have decided to use as a central point for localhost/website files. I have 2 laptops, a ubuntu and vista, and i want them both to be able to see the public_html folder on my desktop, and be able to create/update folders and files.
I have set up the samba sharing and that's working fine, but when i create folders using my laptop, they are not writeable to the desktop or other laptop because my laptop is the creator. Is there a way that I can set it so that whenever folders/files are created from either laptop, they have full permissions?
I installed samba and set one of the folders on my desktop to share with my win7pc. However, I'm having some difficulty getting it to work. If anyone can provide some insight, I would be very grateful.
Both my ubuntu-pc and my win7-pc belong to the same workgroup. Each pc can ping the other. The ubuntu-pc can "see" that the win7 pc is part of the network; but it cannot communicate with the win7 pc. The Win7-pc does not show that the ubuntu-pc is part of the network.
I got a ftp server (proftpd on debian) on machine "A" and I got a Samba Server (debian also) on machine "B" with a shared folder called "public". how do I access the shared folder via FTP?
I already tried the following command:
mount -t smbfs //machine B/public /media/public
And the following message appears:
mount: special device //machine B/public does not exist
But the folder public is already shared cUz I can access it using Windows XP.
