You can truncate the password to 8 characters, or leave it as it is."my question is what kind of problem could i get and how can i change so i have to log in every time i start the computer?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am an old Ubuntu user and have just strted running F11 on my iBook. I always run system-config-samba on all my machines including my server and even on my work server which shares with windows, Linux and OSX and have found it to be perfect. I installed it straight away on the new Fedora system but It doesn't seem to be functioning the way i expected it to.
I installed system-config-samba and then set up one share folder "Public" with open read write privileges and then turned off the Fedora Firewall all together. But "public" did not become open until I entered the user password for the fedora machine. But, then I could see all folders on the Fedora machine. Even root on the fedora machine became write-able on the network. This was not the desired effect at all. I am assuming fedora is using a non system-config-samba file share system that I am unfamiliar with. what is it? and how does it work?
actually i have generated public and private key using "ssh-keygen" command.i have appended it to the ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file in the other netowork system.still it's prompting for password.all the systems in my network are using fedora12 and fedora13.i dont know what's wrong with it.does it need to change any configuration files ..if so what are all the changes to be made?i am trying to login using the same user for whom i created the pub key..no impersonation
View 1 Replies View RelatedI hate to make a new thread for something that has probably already been solved, but searching through all the threads can be a challenge in itself.Every time I log in to Ubuntu 10.04 I am asked for the password to my Wi-Fi connection. About a week ago it was working fine, however after, I think, the second update Ubuntu was longer able to remember the password. Its not a major problem as I can access the Internet its just really inconvenient.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've changed my wireless network password and when I try to connect through my F10 machine, it continues to use the old password. I've changed it a number of times through the GUI that pops up (Wireless Network Authentication Required) and also through the Edit Connections GUI but they always revert back to the old password and disregard the new one.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed Fedora 13 on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 3553, after doing some testing in Mandriva 2010.1 Spring XFCE. I am not (I repeat "not") an experienced Linux-user, so maybe I need to get things with a spoon here, but the wireless networking in Mandriva is similar to the one in Fedora, and in Mandriva it worked fine, in Fedora I cant get connected. It just ask me for the password over and over again. Now I am on cabel, and that works fine.

It works fine if I enable broadcasting of SSID but a proviso of my broadband is to keep this disabled. Ubuntu does it without any issue, can't figure out why it won't work on FC14.
Recently I had a problem with my gf.. now ex.. she put a pssword on the network.. and now I cannot get in.. anyway to hack it? I just want to be able to connect online while at home..
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have 4 machines running 10.04 32 bit Intel--- all use SSH to connect to a remote server drive (disk). All except one of the machines work just fine when accessing the remote drives. The fourth PC keeps asking for a password with every directory change.
If I select cancel three times (on the troublesome unit), the desired directory opens but then the same routine occurs with the next directory change.
The system recognizes the signal and asks me to input the network password, which matches;but when asked for the second password, the "nm connection editor", the password doesn't match. Isn't that password the same as the log on?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI try to connect to my access point and after a long wait of maybe 30 seconds to a minute it will prompt me to enter my password. I entered it correctly and it still keeps on asking me to enter it. So just then I entered it with the password showing and double checked over it before trying again and it still didn't connect.
I need to have internet on my netbook working by tonight or I will have to go back to windows.
What can I do to make my laptop connect to my access point? Its not a problem with my access point, my desktop running windows, it connects just fine to my wireless.
Here is part of my syslog

I have a strange issue w/ F11 and atheros 5212 wifi card using the standard ath5k driver. Every now and then (usually upon bootup but it will kick in every now and then, no rhyme or reason) I will get a kernel panic whereupon my wifi disconnects and I have to manually reconnect. The password screen will popup and I just hit OK and it reconnects. there also appears to be a dmesg line 'disassociated by local choice (reason=3)' in addition to the kernel panic. I've tried using ath9k instead (rmmod ath5k, modprobe ath9k) but that doesn't work at all, no wifi shows up in networkmanager. I also tried to find madwifi and kmod-madwifi via yum but those packages do not appear to be there for F11.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Fedora 14 KDE spin, and I have a wireless network with 4 users. When I start my PC I have to enter the administrator password for the KDE wallet, and also the wireless password if I want to connect to the Internet. This is no problem for me, but I prefer not to share those passwords with the other 3 users. I selected the "Connect automatically" option in the wireless connection settings, but it still asks me for the password every time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBooted up my laptop with wireless disabled (using the little switch on the laptop). I flipped the switch, network manager showed all the wireless networks, but didn't connect to any. So I picked mine, and it asked for the WPA key. Now normally (if I had booted with wireless enabled) it would connect without asking for the WPA key. So I rebooted again with wireless enabled this time, and same deal. It seems that it's just forgotten the key altogether.
I put in the key and it's all back to normal, but I'd like to know where/how network manager is storing the WPA key, and why it forgot it.

Do I need to convert the passphrase somehow?

I'm currently running two computers running Karmic (one was upgraded from Jaunty), and both are running Samba servers. Before I upgraded from Jaunty, I was running Linpopup for a simple Winpopup program to just send and receive Winpopup messages. Afterwards, it was removed due to a lack of support, so I installed it manually, finding all the required packages on the Ubuntu Package List site.
My current problem is that running Code: smbclient -M [network-name] asks for a password before it will let me enter my message, which means that I have to add my password on the first line of my message in Linpopup. My question is, why do I have to enter a password just to send a Winpopup message between computers and how do I disable this? None of the documentation I've found so far indicates anything about fixing it, let alone that the problem exists.
I am on ubuntu server and its joined to an W3k Domain thru winbind/samba. However everything works fine and Windows and Local users can login to the machine without any problem. However when I wanted to create a local user X and change his password I couldn't. It created the local user X but I could not change the password.
