View 3 Replies View Relatedgot a new MoBo today. dropped it in and powered it up to find no network connection. when I dig though network manager I find no network devices, same with "network configuration" lspci gives:
03:00.0 Ethernet contoller [0200]: Atheros Communication Device [1969:1083] (rev c0)
ifconfig gives just the "lo" device. is there a hardware detection step I'm missing? I should mention this is a swap of one onboard NIC for another.
Ubuntu 9.04 running on a Dell C640 with a Dell TrueMobile 1150 wireless card. Works perfectly under XP. Ubuntu can't find it. Wired networking finds the internet perfectly (though I'm still working on getting samba set up correctly for file/print sharing on my XP LAN).
I'm thinking I need a driver, maybe? Can't seem to locate one.
I have a system with windows xp, and to connect to internet I use a usb card EVDO (brand ZTE) given by my provider (BSNL India). Now I installed ubuntu 10:04 but I do not know how to make my usb card work to connect to internet (the provider gave the software only for win xp)
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been running F13 since it came out, with the wireless working fine since I got it working (using the RPM Fusion repository, broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36-1.fc13). Since I updated software (without reading what was to be updated), yesterday, I am unable to even find wireless networks, although I am, as you can see, able to access through eth0 It is not a hardware problem, as I can not only find them, but access them on Ubuntu 9.10 live disc. Below is my lspci

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Ubuntu. Today, I took my old Compaq Presario V3010US and gave it life with Ubuntu 10.04. The hard drive was erased and replaced with the Linux OS stuff. Ubuntu recognizes most of the hardware except my Broadcom wireless card. I find this to be a pain because i'm a newbie to linux stuff. Anyway, can anyone help me fix this? I thank you for your time reading this.

I am building a CarPC which I'd like to have wireless internet access on. I have Verizon phone service so if there is a Verizon air card (not wireless card, an air card so I can have constant access without having to search for hot spots) that would work with Fedora 10 I would be very happy. I don't really know where to start and I can't find too much on Google, so I'm just looking for what options are available.

I have to connect to my university's network. I was using ethernet through our router, but now I cannot do that. I recently installed the TRENDnet TEW-643PI and it works perfectly on the Windows 7 partition. Is there anyway to get the card working on Ubuntu without being connected to the internet?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have installed 9.04 ( I currently have it on dual boot with Windows XP) and my problem is that I have no internet connection. I have a Motorola modem with a Realtek RTL8139 Family Fast Ethernet NIC network card ( it's a wired connection, btw) When I plug in the cable, there's a little animation, but after a while I get the message: Wired connection is not active (or something like that) Here's what I did so far:
1) I ticked the Wake-On-Lan option in XP, since I read it in the forums that I could solve my problem. It did not
2) I turned off my modem, rebooted my system.
3) I deleted the Auto Ethernet network, and plugged in the cable again...no use.
4) I did an ifconfig, since I know that is what you guys really want
evajulia@Derek:~$ ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:18:f3:ab:2b:3a
inet6 addr: fe80::218:f3ff:feab:2b3a/64 Scope:Link

View 1 Replies View RelatedAny opinions on which of the PCMCIA wireless cards work the best out of the box? I currently have a USB wireless adapter but want to get rid of it and use my PCI slot on the laptop. I am currently running lucid. I would rather not have to mess around with NDISWRAPPER again, something that has a native linux driver would be great.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm living in a student-city where we get one internet-cable in the wall each, if we need more we are told to use a switch. But, since ive got some tech that depends on wifi, I was wondering if its possible to setup my ubuntu to work like a sort of wifi-switch?
Basically, Im not allowed to set up anything that resembles a router..(so no dhcp) all i need is what a switch would do, only wireless and wpa/wep would be very nice
Atm ive got my cabled network plugged into my onboard ethernet-port, and ive got a d-link DWA-556 (Atheros AR5008 I think) wifi card that i wanted to use to share my connection. is this doable?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to find a wireless card that will readily work with Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop. Preferably an +802.11 N with an indoor range of between 300 to 400 ft. with possibly two antennas. Am finding many that say linux on the box but find that it ain't so. Also most times with no instructions or very convoluted process that results in errors.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find a driver for my wireless card (Atheros AR928X) and I think it's ath9k what I need. As far as I know there isn't a linux driver for it, so I installed ndiswrapper to use a windows driver instead. The problem is that when I type modprobe ndiswrapper I get "bash: modprobe: command not found" (even as root). I know I'm missing something about modprobe, but I can't find any help on google. Anyway, I installed ndisgtk next, because I thought it would be easier, but when I go to System> Administration> Windows Wireless Drivers I get a message "Unknown error".Do you have any ideas on how I'll make ndiswrapper work?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1545 computer. I boot into Ubuntu with a flash drive. When I boot, I cannot connect to a wireless network. No available networks are displayed (and I know my router is on) and the Network Manager icon displays no bars. I suspect that the Dell Wireless card (having a Broadcom BCM-4312 chipset) needs a driver. I have tried to intstall both of the restricted drivers (BCM STA and 43xx drivers), but with no success. I have run lspci in Terminal, and got many lines of text. Here are the lines that look relevant to me:
Code: 09:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (rev 13) 0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01) In Windows 7, everything is just fine. In Ubuntu, my wired connection works like a charm, but is not really accessible. Basically, I have to connect to wireless in Ubuntu or I have no reason for having it.
I've decided I want to cross over to Ubuntu from Win vista but there's one thing i cant get working. My wireless card. My wireless card is a Xterasys xn 2523g I can't make this switch until i have the internet working.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a second network card in my ubuntu desktop that I have sharing my internet connection with a wireless router. I have set the router to a static ip address within the network cards range. But, every time I restart the computer, the network card uses a different ip address. One time it will be 10.42.43.1, the next time it will be 10.42.46.1, ect. This makes me have to hard reset my router every time it does this. How can I set the network card to use the same ip address all the time?

Usually when this happens, for 10 or 20 seconds it appears to be connected (i.e. the heart symbol is there) but I can't ping google or my router, then it "realizes" it's disconnected. It takes one or two attempts to reconnect successfully by pressing the "active" button. Meanwhile throughout the disconnections and re-connections the signal is very strong (98%).
I had the same problem with my old access point, at first I thought it was the cheap/old hardware, so now I bought an "ENCORE ENDSL-A2+WIGX2 | ADSL 2+ Modem with 4 Port Wireless Router". The problem persists only with a stronger signal.
