Networking :: Kubuntu 10.04 - Hibernate / Sleep Deactivates KNetworkmanager

I'm a new member of LinuxQuestions but using Ubuntu since January, Kubuntu since last month (KDE 4.5.1). I've got the problem that hibernate/sleep deactivate the Network Manager. There is no error report, only that network is deactivated.
By now I solved the problem by editing the:

How can I prevent Hibernate/Sleep from deactivating the Networkmanager?

If I put my computer into sleep or hibernate, I have no wireless connection when I start up again. I click on the wireless manager in the tray, but wireless is disabled and I can't enable it. This never happened until I updated to Ubuntu 9.10.
I am using the b43 driver (I think), but I'm not sure which command to execute to display information about my wireless card.

when I hit the shutdown option... I notice my Hibernate and Sleep button are gone... just the other 3 buttons are there.I wonder if it's certain apps I'm running (that can't be allowed to go into Hibernate) or if it just happens at random for no reason.Has anybody else had this problem? and what is causing this?

I just installed the ubuntu 10.10 along with a dual boot of win7 and running toshiba m511, the problem is when I am using ubuntu I cant sleep, all I get is a black screen and then nada, the fans still on etc etc, I cant push any buttons and have to hard reset it, for it to start working again.

Installed openSUSE into my Thinkpad T410 and noticed that when I closed the laptop lid, the moon icon does not light up.
Reopening the lid and will see a screensaver password screen immediately.
Does this means that the laptop does not have Sleep (or is it called hibernate) mode enable? How can I enable it?
This also happens with Debian that this laptop is dual booted with.

I have recently switched to Ubuntu from Windows Vista. But I am having a few problems, any pointers will be grand.First sleep and hibernate do not work. My laptop sleeps or hibernates fine, but on awake I just get a blank screen and the hard drive doesn't spin at all. running 10.04 Netbook edition. I would like my screen to lock after the netbook goes to sleep but NOT after it enters the screensaver. is this possible? i use my laptop to read in the university a lot and to save power tell it to go into black screensaver after a minute of inactivity. if i enable the lock option i have to enter the password each and every time after the black screensaver activates. but if i deactivate this option and then put the netbook into sleep/hibernate mode it doesn't ask for a password (which i would like) is there any way configure separate passwords for these instances or are they firmly linked?

I have an annoying problem which I am not able to solve. I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my home laptop (MSI X410) and I wanted to use it as a media PC stored in the shelf under my TV. The issue is that I cannot open the lid everytime I want to use the PC because of the height of the self.Everything is working fine (HDMI to TV, running with closed lid once turned on...) except sound - no sound via HDMI. However, I think I might bypass this issue by audio cables though I haven't tried it yet.
Anyway, the issue is that I don't want to keep my laptop turned on 24/7 and once done, I would like to hibernate it/put it to sleep, to save energy, prolong lifetime of the pc and get rid of the noise. The restoration from hibernation/sleep works flawlessly, however I can do than only by pressing the power button (hidden under the closed lid).I can put the PC to sleep by pressing sleep button on my wireless keyboard, but I cannot restore it by pressing the same button, enter, or even power button on the keyboard itself. I have some problems getting some of the buttons on my Thinkpad working properly. Volume buttons, thinklight, etc. work through tpb. It's the other buttons (sleep, hibernate, etc.) that are causing problems. The wireless radio button also works. I can hibernate and suspend successfully from the command-line using pm-suspend, etc. I have copied the 30-keymap-module-thinkpad-acpi.fdi file to /etc/hal/fdi/policy, where it sits alongside my UK keyboard layout policy (10-keymap.fdi). In this file, I have edited the 'radio' button to call a 'bluetooth' event instead, but it seems to be ignored and pressing Fn+F5 toggles both bluetooth and wlan radios and not just bluetooth... Is there something I have to do to merge the 2 files together? Or do I have to rename the thinkpad .fdi file so I have 10-keymap.fdi and 30-keymap.fdi?
I have the tpb daemon running but it's set not to block keystrokes and when I run xev and press the key combination for sleep, it reports 'xf86sleep' correctly, hibernate reports 'xf86suspend', etc., so I know the keys are getting recognized in some form... However, it seems that the HAL daemon is not picking up these events and running the corresponding commands. I am a member of the 'power' group, nevertheless, even running as root does not seem to make any difference. Finally, I am running wmii as a windowmanager with no desktop environment, and none of these buttons is configured in the window manager. hald should be picking up the events but it seems it isn't

I am surprised there isnt an 'NO ACTION' option for that in power manager
I've tried editing the acpi-supper in /etc/default bu couldn't find a solution in there nor in the /home/user/.gconf/apps/gnome-power-manager/ directory

I'm moving from other distros. and I'm currently loving openSUSE and I'm probably going to stick with it for a long time.I have already googled for this, but I found no solution, but I figured this should be a common problem... Does google searches inside this forum?Now... for my problem, whenever I hibernate (suspend to disk) or sleep (suspend to ram) I can't resume my wireless connection nor connect to another.I don't know if this is an issue if I use cables, because I simply don't with my netbook:The hardware in question is an ASUS 1005HA eee pc, running openSUSE version is 11.3 fully updated. I fixed my wireless driver, turned on power management, and, that keeps getting reset to the defaults after sleep or hibernate (KDE control panel). There are many places to hard code fixes like these, but, is there some place dedicated to post-restore scripts? I don't want to put my script somwhere that it's going to get clobbered on a system update.This system really needs an /etc/rc.local anyway. Can I just create one and put it in the string of things to run at transition between runstate 3 and 5? Will that always get run with the powermanagement stuff?

I used to work with a PS/2 keyboard. But one key of it has a malfunction. So I bought a new Cherry USB Keyboard. GRUB and the BIOS like it - no doubt, the keyboard itself is OK. But as soon as SUSE 11.1 takes control during boot, the lights of the keyboard are switched off, and the keyboard is deactivated. I even tried to re-install 11.1 from DVD with the USB keyboard plugged in alone - in vain. With the PS/2 keyboard I didn't ever had any such problems. I run a system with a Pentium III (Katmai) on an Intel RC440BX Motherboard.

I have a Vizio router, I run Kubuntu 10.10, I set my Kwallet password to blank, but Knetworkmanager keeps asking for the router password (WPA2, 10 digit random). I tried Wicd as well; both of them have the same problem.

I am running openSuse 11.2 on Acer Turion64 x2.
My wireless card is "Atheros Communications Inc. AR2413 802.11bg NIC (rev 01)".
For some reason, networkmanager can not connect to network at all.
In NetworkManager log, it is showing "kernel: [ 28.002378] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready".
I try to find out why it can not connect to network by using knetworkmanager.

I've configured a pptp VPN using KNetworkManager. It works fine. Now I want to have it started automatically then my network interface is assigned a particular IP from my home DHCP server. I don't need it in other places. I guess there is no such built in functionality, but may be it can be scripted somehow?

I created the script in /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d using the same format as scripts to start firewalls, but it doesn't seem to run. I can run the script successfully from the command prompt, but it doesn't happen automatically

After seeing those 4G phone commercials with that newfangled mobile hotspot tech, I have to admit I was eager to trade in my crappy 2 year old CDMA phone for one. That is, until I saw the price tag. 30$ a month for hotspot? No way, so what I did was activate the tethering feature buried deep within the primitive OS accessible only with a plethora of codes and hackery. So long story short: I can now network on the go because Ubuntu sees my device as a "mobile broadband device". Unfortunately, my ipod lacks a USB port for tethering so I use my freed up wireless card to make an AD-HOC network for my ipod to connect through my makeshift modem. Now, my issue is that the modem isn't really that mobile any more because I have to have my laptop OPEN to keep my networks on ,otherwise I close my laptop and no more Adhoc or mobile broadband! So, my question is if I can close my laptop but still keep it connected to the mobile broadband and broadcasting the adhoc network.

I'm sure this doesn't need a new thread but after searching for a bit I didn't find much about this. The problem is this;My system sleeps quite well, I can resume from sleep and get back to the desktop. However. the one thing that doesn't resume is > networking.I can disable> re-enable networking from the NM-applet and it tries again to connect but won't.I can sudo /etc/init.d/ networking restart, which essentially is the same as above. No connectionI've run ifconfig, and the connection is there but no address. Has this bug not been solved? Is it just a driver issue with my particular network card?It's the realtek 8201, part of the VT8237 chipset.Does anyone know what to do about this? I've been avoiding sleep mode on this computer for a very long time because of this bug.

When my akoya mini E1210 with UNR10.10 resumes after sleep my wifi searches forever and then cuts out. When I do iwconfig the card seems normal for about a minute and then I do iwconfig again it gives gives no id. Reboot and bang, everything perfect. Did make new driver from latest ralink driver, as explained by Sven ,but nu change. Also blacklisted the rt2800 and rt2x00.
Seems that after sleep the wifi card driver is not loaded. Worked like a charm in 9.10 and in 10.4 (upgrade from 9.10). After update to 10.10, it went wrong.
extra: when I do sudo ifconfig ra0 up I get the message "SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not permitted" Also, after hibernation, no luck...
in dmesg found that the mailbox keeps MCU active, and rt2860 could not be initialised.:

I use ubuntu netbook for an eee pc 1000h because windows is underpowered. I got it working perfectly in 10.04. I upgraded to 10.10 thinking, if they got it right with 10.04 then surely 10.10 should be fine. All function keys except wireless work.
1. After sleep, wireless turns off. Have to restart and re-enable in bios.
2. If I disable and the re-enable wireless networking it tries to connect but never does resulting in a reboot needed. Checking bios wireless is enabled and connects perfectly on reboot.
Just don't close the lid and sleep because you need a restart. Why would 10.04 be easy and the new version fail? I am windows user and linux does not do this kind of thing normally. MS screws things up with upgrades not linux surely.

Installed Fedora8 from an old DVD.
Two issues:
1. start Firefox, but it goes into sleep mode. no matter reboot machine, etc.
2. after entered a static IP address in network manager, fedora hanged in boot process, halted in "send email" which is one of many processes at boot up.
Used DHCP, can ping to other PC in LAN, but can't go internet.

I am using WICD as my wireless network manager and it works connecting to a network for the first time. But when I resume my laptop from hibernate or standby, WICD will not reconnect to the network and gets stuck on obtaining an IP address. And if I try to change networks without hibernating I get the same problem. Also, I notice that the network name is stagnant. I connect to multiple wifi networks a day because of school. When I leave my "home" network and connect to my "school" network WICD still says "Homebtaining IP address" even thought it should say "schoolbtaining IP address." My thoughts are that it isn't releasing the network properly and when its trying to connect it can't because it still thinks it's connected. The only solution I have found is to restart my laptop every time I want to connect to a new network, or shut down every time I am done using my laptop, which is a major inconvenience.
