If I put my computer into sleep or hibernate, I have no wireless connection when I start up again. I click on the wireless manager in the tray, but wireless is disabled and I can't enable it. This never happened until I updated to Ubuntu 9.10.
I am using the b43 driver (I think), but I'm not sure which command to execute to display information about my wireless card.
I'm moving from other distros. and I'm currently loving openSUSE and I'm probably going to stick with it for a long time.I have already googled for this, but I found no solution, but I figured this should be a common problem... There are many places to hard code fixes like these, but, is there some place dedicated to post-restore scripts? I don't want to put my script somwhere that it's going to get clobbered on a system update.This system really needs an /etc/rc.local anyway. Can I just create one and put it in the string of things to run at transition between runstate 3 and 5? Will that always get run with the powermanagement stuff?

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my home laptop (MSI X410) and I wanted to use it as a media PC stored in the shelf under my TV. The issue is that I cannot open the lid everytime I want to use the PC because of the height of the self.Everything is working fine (HDMI to TV, running with closed lid once turned on...) except sound - no sound via HDMI. However, I think I might bypass this issue by audio cables though I haven't tried it yet.

I would like my screen to lock after the netbook goes to sleep but NOT after it enters the screensaver. is this possible? i use my laptop to read in the university a lot and to save power tell it to go into black screensaver after a minute of inactivity. if i enable the lock option i have to enter the password each and every time after the black screensaver activates. but if i deactivate this option and then put the netbook into sleep/hibernate mode it doesn't ask for a password (which i would like) is there any way configure separate passwords for these instances or are they firmly linked?

I have some problems getting some of the buttons on my Thinkpad working properly. Volume buttons, thinklight, etc. work through tpb. It's the other buttons (sleep, hibernate, etc.) that are causing problems. The wireless radio button also works. I can hibernate and suspend successfully from the command-line using pm-suspend, etc. I have copied the 30-keymap-module-thinkpad-acpi.fdi file to /etc/hal/fdi/policy, where it sits alongside my UK keyboard layout policy (10-keymap.fdi). In this file, I have edited the 'radio' button to call a 'bluetooth' event instead, but it seems to be ignored and pressing Fn+F5 toggles both bluetooth and wlan radios and not just bluetooth... Is there something I have to do to merge the 2 files together? Or do I have to rename the thinkpad .fdi file so I have 10-keymap.fdi and 30-keymap.fdi?
I have the tpb daemon running but it's set not to block keystrokes and when I run xev and press the key combination for sleep, it reports 'xf86sleep' correctly, hibernate reports 'xf86suspend', etc., so I know the keys are getting recognized in some form... However, it seems that the HAL daemon is not picking up these events and running the corresponding commands. I am a member of the 'power' group, nevertheless, even running as root does not seem to make any difference. I just started using OpenSUSE on an old laptop. It seems that I have my graphical problems at least temporarily solved, but I continued to lose my wireless connection after an hour of use. This is an old and well supported chipset (RT2500) and I had never had any issues with it before. I use WPA security, and one kind poster suggested I had a line for using the old "wext" driver in the /etc/sysconfig/ifcfg-wlan0 file, and that seems to have sorted it since I have not had any further issues since doing that edit. I eventually found the information on my own:

I use ubuntu netbook for an eee pc 1000h because windows is underpowered. I got it working perfectly in 10.04. I upgraded to 10.10 thinking, if they got it right with 10.04 then surely 10.10 should be fine. All function keys except wireless work.
1. After sleep, wireless turns off. Have to restart and re-enable in bios.
2. If I disable and the re-enable wireless networking it tries to connect but never does resulting in a reboot needed. Checking bios wireless is enabled and connects perfectly on reboot.
Just don't close the lid and sleep because you need a restart. Why would 10.04 be easy and the new version fail? I am windows user and linux does not do this kind of thing normally. MS screws things up with upgrades not linux surely.
Running Ubuntu 11.04 on a Gateway LT3103U netbook. It's running fine except for that fact that when it goes to sleep (timeout or lid closed) or going into suspend or otherwise restarted/shutdown, my router restarts. It's a DLink DIR-655 that has been working fine until I changed this netbook to Ubuntu.After installing Ubuntu on the netbook, it found my SSID being broadcast and I added the connection by supplying the WPA2 password. I have full network access (local and internet).
It's just the router restarts and all my other machines lose connections. The router is using DHCP but supplying IPs based on MAC. Netbook is set to use DHCP.

I have a server with two ethernet ports. I configured eth0 to be static, set at 10.1.10.148. I plugged in another router into the other ethernet port in order to configure that router. I configured eth1 to use dhcp. Using /etc/network/interfaces rather than gnome network manager. When I did this, I lost internet connectivity (internet routes through eth0 of course)

In order to recover internet activity, I had to disconnect the new router on eth1 of course, and do sudo ifdown eth1. That wasn't enough however. After rebooting numerous times and pulling out my hair, I finally tried configuring eth0 as dhcp, rather than static, and this fixed the problem.
- Why didn't sudo ifdown eth1 solve the problem? What information was saved between reboots that somehow remembered that I plugged in the new router? Because my thinking was if /etc/network/interfaces was identical, and the network topology was identical, after a reboot everything should be restored, but it wasn't.
I have just removed ndiswrapper and installed Realtek RTL819se!! How ever after I restarted I lose my wifi and have to do change directory to use ./wlan0up to get it working again.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI use a Westell 327W dsl modem/router to connect to the internet. I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on two computers. My desktop is connected with ethernet and works perfectly. However, when I connect my laptop with wifi, it causes the router to lose it's internet connection. All connected devices are affected. The only way to fix the problem is to shut off and turn on the router again. This problem only happens with with the laptop and Ubuntu. I use the same laptop with Win7, and it connects fine. I also have no problems connecting my Android phone or PS3 to the router. The wifi in the laptop is an Atheros model.
I have tried no security, WEP, and WAP. The result is the same with all three settings. I can still access the router config from any device 192.168.1.1 after the internet goes out. The DSL led on the router stays on, and the config says the DSL connection is active.
Im having trouble with my hp mini 110, i read abit of information about it on the site and installed a package that gets my wifi working, problem being is that as soon as I go upstairs i lose connection, its not really upstairs if I move more than 5 feet away from my router no internet although the laptop reads full signal.
