I can't connect internet using ADSL modem of bsnl.I am new user of linux(fedora8).To do so I go through system>administration>network configuration and trying to activate xdsl modem and ethernet but unfortunately ethernet does not seems though there is a ethernet card.Here it should be mention that in my windowsXP partion there is no problem for internet connection.so what can I do next?

Using a set of instruction given to me, I was able to set up a Macintosh system running Mac OS X to successfully connect to a virtual private network.I then tried to adapt those same instruction to configure a system running Fedora Linux 12 on an Intel Core2 Duo system.However when I try to connect using the NetworkManager Applet, I get an error that saying the VPN connection failed, with no clear indication of what the actual problem is.What can I do to troubleshoot this problem and find out why the connection is failing?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter running a system update, on next boot I was unable to connect to the internet. I am running Fedora 12 KDE 4.4 x86_64 with a dsl connection. Network manager was keeping my ethernet card disabled. If I disabled NM control of the card I could manually enable it and connect to the internet, but on reboot it would be disabled again. I saw that the update did apply to NetworkManager so I did a downgrade. yum downgrade NetworkManager That seems to have fixed the problem.
Here's an interesting thing I noticed. When I did the downgrade, yum wanted to "Install" for dep NetworkManager-glib for the lower version, however didn't do anything to the same file on the latest version. Almost as if it wasn't installed. Now, with the downgraded version as current, yum wants to update both NetworkManager and NetworkManager-glib to the latest version. I couldn't swear to it, but I think the original update to NetworkManager did not include the *-glib dep, but now it does. Maybe that was the problem all along?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just want to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to connect to the internet. I have done a massive amount of troubleshooting, but some of it seems to contradict itself, and the only two things that I know for sure are that it used to work, and that my Ethernet cable is not the problem. When I use Terminal utilities like ifup and dhclient it seems that it can not determine IP information, but when I try to put it in manually, the "Apply" button grays out right after I finish typing it in. When I try to connect normally, in KDE or GNOME, the icon acts like it's connecting, then instead of having the connected icon, I receive a notification that "the network has been disconnected", and it goes back to the disconnected icon.
Oh, and by the way, I know that I could probably find a workaround, but I have limited resources, and this used to work. The Linux is a Dell desktop with Fedora 12 and the Windows is a Windows 7 HP laptop.EDIT: I hope that I didn't mess something up, but I accidentally used system-network-config to try putting in the IP address there, and ended up changing it back to the original settings, but the computer is now calling it Auto Ethernet in the taskbar icon, although sudo iwconfig in the terminal still calls it eth0.

With the help of posts of this site Ive made good progress with complicated stuffnamely getting Samba and VNC working. My Fedora machine and my windows machines now see each others shared files, and I can control my Fedora machine from my windows machine. (The Fedora machine will ultimately be headless.)
But Im having trouble with a seemingly simple issue setting up my Fedora box with a static IP address. With DHCP enabled on my network Ethernet adapter, all works fine. I then used the System>Administration>Network menu to disable DHCP and to assign the same IP address that DHCP chose. When I do this, two cases need to be distinguished:
1. If I keep the box checked for Controlled by Network Manager, the Network Manager Applet reports a network connection, I nevertheless cannot access the internet, but my Fedora machine is able to communicate with my Squeezebox music player (connected to my network via my DSL modem Ethernet connections, and with a fixed IP address). 2. If I uncheck the box Controlled by Network Manger, then the Network Manager Applet reports no network connection and my Fedora machine is not able to communicate with my Squeezebox music player (and I of course have no internet connectivity).
Ive seen references on other posts suggesting that the Network Manager service be disabled. But I see no way to manually configure the network.
I had Fedora 7 which works fine with my PCI card Linksys WMP54G-EU (00:0b.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)).
It ran with ndiswrapper.1.51.
Yesterday I installed the live-CD Fedora 10 on a new partition in another hard drive and so I have Fedora 10 but WITHOUT Internet connection.
I tried to install Ndiswrapper but the 'make' command doesn't exist in my Fedora 10 !
What are all the things I need to download from Internet to ensure the several commands like 'make uninstall', 'make', 'make install'... and to ensure installing Ndiswrapper ?

My Intended Setup is as follows;
The Problem: So far I've not been able to get an internet connection from any computer connected to the HUB. I currenty have Fedora 13 on PC1 but have also tried with both Ubuntu 10.04 & Debian Lenny. I am open to using any Linux based distro on PC1 as long it has a Gnome Desktop. eth0 on PC1 can be Static or Dhcp, but I would prefer to set Static IPs on eth1 & all of the Client PCs
To the best of my knowledge I have enabled ipv4 forwarding in sysctl.conf (& some other changes);

I am running F13 on my Desktop (with a Ralink RT2870 wireless card) and also on my Laptop (Acer Aspire 5738Z) and am connecting to the internet via a NetGear router. On my Laptop I can connect to the internet fine with no problems. However on my Desktop when I turn my computer on it connects to the internet fine, and works, however after some time (maybe 5-10 minutes) it disconnects and the box asking for the password reappears, then I click connect but no joy.
The connection box just keeps reappearing and it won't connect again until I restart the computer (although sometimes it takes more than 1 restart!). This is not a signal issue, as my Desktop also has a Windows partition and that connects to the internet fine and does not drop off. I have installed the RT2870 driver through rpmfusion, which didn't fix the problem, although uninstalling the driver didn't stop the card from working.
I have wireless adapter USB rt1878 working fine.I have to setup pppoe to make internet connection?I need this help?

Then, I was playing around with VPN for a good while (trying to set up the VPN connection to my University), and now, I suddenly lost my connection to the internet!
But only Fedora can't connect anymore, the Windows PC has connection as well as my Mac OS X (I dualboot Linux on my MacBook). The Ethernet connection works as well, when I unplug the cable, Fedora gives me a message, but I just don't get into the internet!
Does anyone have an ides what I have to do? I don't know anything about network connections and I'm new to Linux...

My internet connection is fine in Windows 7 but an older computer I resurrected (AMD Athlon 1.7 GHz, 512 MB RAM, Fedora 14 Security Lab Spin) is having the stop-and-go's with its internet connection. It will work for very briefly, then it gets extremely slow, where any page I try to navigate to in Firefox 3.6 takes forever to load.I have a DSL connection and my DSL modem is connected to a Linksys WRT54G2 router. I set up a static IP in Windows but don't know how to do this yet in Fedora 14, and I need to get my internet connection working so I can troubleshoot further, but with it being so slow, I'm having to use Windows to search for problems and then switch over to the Fedora box via KVM (IOGEAR), which I also just started using. I don't think that would be related, but who knows.

I was fine to get on the internet when it had Vista on it, but now the wifi light is always 'on' no matter what I do, yet Ubuntu can't even acknowledge it HAS wifi, let alone connects. I'm at a total loss here, and I need this up and running.
I've found a lot of people with similar issues, but none of those solutions has helped. My Ubuntu 'fails' packages all the time (tells me they don't exist!) and I don't know what to do with it. I'm a Windows user (born and raised) and speaking Ubuntu is not coming naturally to me.

NetworkManager gets to the second green dot, and then after a short while I am given a message that the connection was disconnected.
Configuring the interface manually, not using DHCP, allows the connection to complete. However, the internet is very slow. There is a 15-30 sec delay before website loading actually commences, and then another delay each time an ad must be fetched from another server.How can I fix this delay? I know I have encountered it in earlier versions of Ubuntu, but I can't remember how I fixed it.About the rdesktop problem, if anyone is able to help [maybe I should post another thread?], the cursor color (the color of the pointer) is inverted---where it should be white it is black, and where it should be black it is white. I recently installed fedora 15 on my computer but I have a huge problem. I can connect to my router wirelessly for a couple of minutes only. Afterwards my computer has no Internet connection although the network manager and the icon on the upper bar says that i am still connected. I tried editing the /etc/rc.local and /etc/resolv.conf as mentioned in other posts in here bit no luck so far.
