Ubuntu :: Connect Remotely With VNC But If Type Any Character It Closes Out Window
Sep 20, 2010I am having an issue with Ubuntu 10.10 and VNCServer. I can connect to my Ubuntu box remotely with VNC, but if I type any character anywhere, it closes out the window I was typing in. I dont seem to have a problem clicking and opening windows and applications, I just cant type anything into them without the window closing. Has anyone seen this behavior and know what the fix is?

Aug 21, 2010I am attempting to run apache on my linux router while connected to a VPN. My default route is set to the VPN endpoint and I cannot control port forwarding at that end. I cannot seem to connect to any service that i bind to the eth0 interface. I believe that my iptables rules and OpenVPN are the source of the problem.

Jan 17, 2010Is there some way top stop the "blind effect" of compiz so that when you double click the top title bar of a window that it maximizes the window instead of the rolling up type effect? Also when i place my mouse on the top right of the screen it brings it to a choosing window type mode where you can pick which window you would like to open, is it possible to get this on the top left of the screen instead? Lastly when I use Kdebluetooth4 to send a file to my computer where does that file save to?

Jan 18, 2011I have a problem here for which I am unable to find any relevant info on google. I have an openfiler server and another server which is running OEL(redhat5). When i give the following command iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p 192.168.2.13it only gives me one line output which is:192.168.2.13:3260,1 iqn.2006-01.com.openfiler:tsn.03821172572cNone of the mapped LUNS gets identified neither it shows me any message that it is connecting. I have setup CHAP in openfiler to accept an incoming user plus gave access to my OEL server.Any feedback is helpful. If you need the contents of /etc/iscsi/iscsid.conf file let me know

Jul 6, 2010I am using centos 5.5 x85_64 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5 The server is hanging at start up due to the follwoing error
udevd[746] nss_ldap reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 4 seconds)
udevd[746] failed to bind to LDAP ser er ldap://192.168.0.100 cant contact ldap
It fails and then tries again, and again, each time increasing the sleep time. This is happening before network sercvices are started so ther is no way it can connect to ldap. anyone know a way to fix this problem?

Ubuntu :: Unable To Define A Default Window Size Of A New Terminal Window?
Nov 16, 2010i'm not sure for using the correct channel here but i hope someone out there can answer my little questions. 1st in older version i was able to change the settings of the terminal look as the font color, background color and so on. I was also able to define a default window size of a new terminal window. But since after upgrading to to the first release this year and a complete new installation of the current release Maverick i do not find this option anymore. Is there a way how to set up the terminal default window size?

Feb 15, 2011I am attempting to connect to my Windows Computer via a wired network on a sky router. When I tried with PClinuxOS it configured automatically. With the latest version of open SuSe this is quite a bit different. I have got as far as the network being auto and active with an Icon showing on the taskbar. However when I click on the Windows network Icon SuSe tries to locate my Computer but then comes back with "failed to retrieve share list from server". This is as far as I can get after several hours of trying.

May 4, 2011As I mentioned on the thread title, I can not connect wilreless under awesome window manager,it can scan wirless, but just can not connect it. I am using
sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid "...." key s:"***"
or
sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid "...." key s:**** (I try both, neither of it works)
and I do some search, and trying
sudo iwconfig eth1 essid "..." key s:*****
it is not working as well.
So, hoping you can give any solution. I am appreciating your helping.
But, interesting thing is, under gnome, it wireless is pretty good, I have no idea how it could be, but just works fine.
btw, under awesome, when I typing nm-tool, it always indicate that wlan0 is disconnect.

May 19, 2010ssh to a machine on my network open up a terminal (gnome, xterm, whatever) and have it visible on that machines display be able to type and execute commands in that window, from my computer. i have kind of achieved this. on machine A, i ssh to machine B. on machine B, i open up a terminal and execute screen, C-a :multiuser on. on machine A, i execute screen -x and connect to the term on B. everything i type from A or B can be seen. i just want to be able to set this up without having to physically be at machine B. does that make sense?

Dec 10, 2010Using gnome terminal (Ubuntu 10.10), is there a way to execute the default application associated to a file type, only by typing its name, as it is possible with Windows ?
For example, say I create a mime type associated to every file with the pattern *.abc. Lets say I associate this file type to application 'my_app'.
If I have file 'my_file.abc' in current folder, what I want is that when I enter only 'my_file.abc' at the prompt, it executes 'my_app' feeding it with 'my_file.abc' as first argument. (assuming of course 'my_app' is in the path)
