Ubuntu :: Unable To Define A Default Window Size Of A New Terminal Window?

Nov 16, 2010

i'm not sure for using the correct channel here but i hope someone out there can answer my little questions. 1st in older version i was able to change the settings of the terminal look as the font color, background color and so on. I was also able to define a default window size of a new terminal window. But since after upgrading to to the first release this year and a complete new installation of the current release Maverick i do not find this option anymore. Is there a way how to set up the terminal default window size?

Networking :: Automating The Terminal Type With NIS Logins?

Jan 25, 2011

I am running NIS in an environment that has HP-UX 11.11 64-bit running on a PA-RISC rp3400 server, with Fedora Core 2 32-bit running on intel workstations. All users use the tcsh shell by default in their profiles. If more information is needed please let me know.

Users who log into the domain via a terminal window on the workstations are prompted for the terminal type which is normally dtterm. I want to automate the process so users are not prompted to enter in the above information. My plan is to modify the global-cshrc file on the master NIS server. I had several questions concerning this:

1. Is it better to modify global-cshrc, or should this be done at the individual user directory?

2. What is the correct syntax to use in either case?

3. Will the changes made go into effect upon the next login, or do I need to push out the changes via the make command?

Fedora :: Top Title Bar Of A Window That It Maximizes The Window Instead Of The Rolling Up Type Effect In Compiz And Bluetooth

Jan 17, 2010

Is there some way top stop the "blind effect" of compiz so that when you double click the top title bar of a window that it maximizes the window instead of the rolling up type effect? Also when i place my mouse on the top right of the screen it brings it to a choosing window type mode where you can pick which window you would like to open, is it possible to get this on the top left of the screen instead? Lastly when I use Kdebluetooth4 to send a file to my computer where does that file save to?

Software :: When Start Xemacs Is Doesnot Run In An X Window But Runs In A Terminal Window

Feb 7, 2010

Newly installed Debian system from years with Fedora. Ran system update and system got hosed, booted but no Gnome. Got Gnome back after MANY 'aptitude upgrade's. Xemacs disappeared! Along with other things I installed. Tried to install Xemacs but it is broken and will not install, complains about dpkg TOO current(?). So downloaded Xemacs for Xemacs.org and compiled source, installed.

Now when I start Xemacs is does not run in an X window but runs emacs in a terminal window. If I run it from a script, it complains about 'not in tty window'.

My env show:

Code:

The Xemacs install on Debian ( Bug written ) Install and configuration of Xemacs from source. A better understanding of the Debian upgrade process.

I can see the workgroup of Windows Network from Ubuntu, but when i put the username and password of Windows 7 from Ubuntu it doesn't get any access to the shared folders. I don't know where the problem is for not getting the username and password accepted or authorization.

I even tried turning off the password requirement in Windows 7, but no luck.

My Documents are shared on Windows 7

Something must be missing cuz I can see the Windows 7 computer on Ubuntu but the login fails all the time.

Debian Multimedia :: Xcompmgr 'master' - Rounded Window Borders Don't Draw And Redraw Properly When Using The Terminal (gnome-terminal And The LXDE And Xfce Ones)

Aug 26, 2011

I find xcompmgr more than adequate for making a desktop look pretty modern, and I don't like the more extravagentCompiz gimmicks - but there is one thing that irritates when using xcompmgr which someone here might have worked round.

Rounded window borders don't draw and redraw properly when using the Terminal (gnome-terminal and the LXDE and Xfce ones) or system monitor and moving them from their default place. You get this little white botch at the corners. I'm not massively technical and I'm ambivalent about how much more I want to learn as I have plenty of creative outlets already, but I would like to solve this. Somehow xcompmgr is treating these programs as a different class? It's capable of drawing the window borders properly as it is just these two programs that get botched. Possibly this doesn't get noticed as maybe people usually use xcompmgr with openbox and LXDE and their square window borders. I did do a search but there was nothing matching what I saw.

Just wondering if there's any way I can keep the window borders as they are, but put shadows on for the gnome-panel and my stickynotes? See HERE.When I try to adjust the shadow settings in emerald, it changes everything -- including the window borders, which make the theme look horrible.I know I can specify certain types and classes of windows when using compiz as default window decorator with ccsm, but is there any way to do something like this with emerald?

Ubuntu :: Find By Type From Terminal?

Jun 27, 2010

I'd like to find all files of a specific type (as determined by the terminal "file" command) from the command line ... and haven't been able to figure out a way to do so. For instance, I'd like to be able to find all JPEG files in my filesystem, even if their names don't end in .jp*. It would be helpful to be able to combine this with other tests in find, so that I could type something like "sudo find / -atime 0 -size +1M -type adobeflash" or something like that.

I've looked for ways to hook find up to file and tinkered around with a few ideas involving pipes, but nothing seems to get what I want.

Ubuntu :: Nothing Appears In Terminal When Type Into It?

Jul 9, 2011

I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 and I've been running into a bizarre scenario. So when I open a terminal, I can type commands into it. Then I open a tab (by pressing Ctrl+Shift+T) and can type into it normally as well. But when I close the tab (going back to the original terminal), I suddenly can't type into that terminal -- no characters appear on its command line. It is not a severe issue since if I jump to another window (say Firefox), then come back to that terminal, I can suddenly type again. Also as far as I know this seems to be the only scenario to which this problem occurs. Has anyone ran into the same issue?
