Networking :: Address Of Remote Network In FreeNX Wizard And Bit Type?

May 21, 2010

Some FreeNX start-up troubles here, need a hand. 1) I am trying to establish a connection from my workplace PC on my workplaces's LAN to my home PC on my private LAN (LAN-to-LAN). Just typing in the public IP of the target LAN in the "Host" field gets me nowhere, as it fails to connect due to a denial at port 22 SSH - even though I've done the forwarding in my home router and punched the required hole in the local firewall of the target machine.

This resembles what I'm looking at: [URL]..2) My home PC is 64-bit Mepis and my workmachine is a 32-bit Ubuntu. Is this a problem?

Ubuntu Networking :: Secure Remote Desktop With SSH FreeNX & DD-WRT?

Feb 1, 2010

For a Secure Remote Desktop on Ubuntu 9.10 here is how I did it using OpenSSH, FreeNX and a router with DD-WRT v24. Pic of it in use at bottom of post, transferring a file and remote desktop at the same time.

For the purposes of this guide I will use a Desktop as the Server (Host) which is at home. The Client will be a Laptop that I can use to control the Desktop remotely. First you should already be familiar with the Terminal which is where you enter commands (anything in a "Code:" box).

In Ubuntu it is in Applications > Accessories > Terminal In Kubuntu it is usually on the lower left taskbar and is called Konsole I am using Ubuntu so you may have to make some adjustments to this guide if you are not using Ubuntu. Installing OpenSSH (for the rest of this guide I will refer to it as only SSH)

Ubuntu Networking :: Static IP Address And The Install Configures For A DHCP Configured Address - Network Not Starting

Dec 16, 2010

Version 10.04 LTS. Installed desktop version and network worked but I needed a static IP address and the install configures for a DHCP configured address. I tried changing to static address using the System->Preferences->Network Connections application but was unable to get the system to come up with the network up.

So I manually modified the /etc/network/interfaces and the /etc/resolv.conf files. I restart the system but when I do an ifconfig, I don't see a configured IP address on eth0 (only the loopback address). If I run /sbin/ifup eth0 everything then works fine and ifconfig shows the correct address bound to eth0.

My files are as follows:

Debian Configuration :: Run Remote Desktop Sessions - FreeNX Connection Timeout

Apr 19, 2010

I have a Debian VPS running Lenny and I'm trying to setup a way to run remote desktop sessions from it. I went with FreeNX, NX client for windows from nomachine, XDM and xfce4. All seems to have installed well, but I can't start an NX session on my box. I can connect to the server and authenticate, but the client hangs on "Downloading the session information," eventually timing out. The log output is below - I'm not even seeing an error message. Any ideas?

[Code]...

The only thing I noticed during install, which was about 400 packages since this was a barebones VPS, was that I should consider recompiling the kernel with CONFIG_SOFTWARE_SUSPEND=y. I don't know if this has any impact on session information, however, since this is a new session, not one I'm trying to resume.

Ubuntu Networking :: Remote Desktop Access "Your Desktop Is Only Reachable Over The Local Network. Others Can Access Your Computer Using The Address 127.0.0.1 Or Tabatha.local"

Feb 19, 2010

Running Ubuntu 9.10. In the Remote Desktop config dialog I get: "Your desktop is only reachable over the local network. Others can access your computer using the address 127.0.0.1 or tabatha.local." I understand this means only the loopback ip address is available. All my other machines show their true local ip address (e.g., 192.168.1.104) in this dialog. Thus I cannot log on to this desktop from other machines.

When I try to do a remote logon from another Ubuntu 9.10 box (or from an XP box using a VNC viewer), I get: "Connection to 192.168.1.102 has been closed." What steps are needed to make this machine show its actual ip address? All file sharing between the various machines is working properly and all windows shares back and forth between XP and 'nix, and among the the vaious XP boxes and linux boxes are available as designed.

OpenSUSE Network :: FreeNX For People Upgrading To 11.3?

Jul 18, 2010

Just incase anyone is suffering from the same problem as I was after upgrading to 11.3 that there was no such file or directory in /var/lib/nxserver/db/running/sessionID. I found the answer in another forum and thought i would post it here. Basically there is a change in the openssl library used to calculate the md5sum used by nx which stopped it from connecting.

Putting
COMMAND_MD5SUM="md5sum"
at the end of /etc/nxserver/node.conf fixes the problem.

OpenSUSE Network :: FreeNX Server Not Running But Responding (?!)?

Feb 28, 2010

I've been working on getting NoMachine and FreeNX working together ... and they're both working well, listening on different ports (guess I should write a howto). At some point I decided to write an init script to control FreeNX behaviour (start, stop, status, setup), since the Ubuntu version has one (called freenx-server) and openSUSE doesn't, but I noticed that it was not necessary, as FreeNX got started automatically... but how ? I could not find any init.d script or command which would start the FreeNX server. Indeed it wasn't actually running :

Code:
neelix:~ # /usr/bin/nxserver --status
NX> 100 NXSERVER - Version 3.2.0-73 OS (GPL, using backend: 3.2.0)

Networking :: How To Get Network Ip Address

Dec 11, 2009

I use getaddrinfo to get the ip address of the server, it works well on other 3 machines, but always get local address 127.0.0.1 on an 64 bit linux machine. Therefore, other remote clients can not connect to the socket server because the server binds local address l27.0.0.1.

I have also tried pass 0.0.0.0 to getaddrinfo, now the server bind on 0.0.0.0(all available interface). But now I can not print the correct network address of the server, as it is always 0.0.0.0 which is provided by getsockname.

I do not know how to get the network address of the server, rather than the local address.
