After a recent install of Pinguy_OS_10.10.1 I have been unable to boot PCLinuxOS. Presently, I have Ubuntu, Pinguy, and Win 7 booted on a Dell Inspiron 530S. Right now Pinguy shows as 1st on the boot menu as an Ubuntu distro. PCLinux shows as a linux distro on the correct partition but when selected, it won"t boot.
View 9 RepliesI may have misburned my cd...downloaded OS to windows 7 desktop, burned on that machine, but want to use pclinusos on windows XP laptop. Turned on XP laptop, hit restart with cd in drive, it seemed to start to load, then stopped with error msg: libpng error: Read Error. I do not know what that means and how do I safely stop the process to be able to turn the laptop off safely?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed new hard drive and cloned old hard drive software onto it. The bootloader installs either linux or other operating system. Ever since the cloning, boot hangs. Words in the thread title are the last to appear before everything grinds to a halt. Just before the kernal panic message appears, "Initrd finished" is last line. Will have to try booting again to find more info before this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have PClinuxOS 2010 with KDE 4.4.2 and i want to smooth GTK applications.I have installed QtCurve theme and edited gtkrc in home dir and i also set up subpixel rendering to RGB and hinting to full.I know those fonts are smoothed but there is slight difference as you can see in screenshot,and for example Floola isn't smoothed at all(is this GTK app?).My question is,can i make GTK fonts more smooth and how do i do it?

well the majority of the systems at my school run on windows (duh) and each student has their own network drive nobody has access to each others drive, but all of the systems accesses these drives with the use of novell client and theres a specific name for each drive and password, plus the network tree has a certain name to, how do i access these drives in pclinuxos by including usernames and password to access these drives based on the username and password that is typed in.

I found PClinuxOS which seemed decent and decided to install it alongside my Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows Vista. The bootloader that came with PClinuxOS recognised my Vista OS, but not my Ubuntu.long story short, i recovered Ubuntu's GRUB becasue i had already edited it to my liking. GRUB found the PClinuxOS partition and added it to the menu. Vista and Ubuntu start fine, but when i try to select the PClinuxOS option, i get this message-type-thing:

I have been extremely pleased with Ubuntu, so I really don't need another distro, but I'd like to know how to fix this
So I currently have an Ubuntu/Mandriva/PCLinuxOS multiboot setup on my system. After I installed the latter two I setup Ubuntu's grub2 to be my default boot manager. After running my Code: sudo update-grub command it successfully found and added entries for Mandriva and PCLinuxOS, however upon trying to boot into either of these distros (selecting them from the menu) I get some terminal output that ultimately ends in kernel panic.

i just made a fresh install of pclinuxos 2010 e-17 setup everything and its working great so i decide to go in synaptic and mark all upgrades and apply about 70% of the way though applying i get an error and try to recover needless to say it crashes and no i cant login i get an error message that says the shared file libembryo.so.0 cannot open no such file or directory
View 1 Replies View Relatedi am having trouble configuring XFdrake with my dell 1905fp moniter,or is there a problem with pclinuxos 2010. it started by about a month ago and it wouldnt boot. after reading on the net i ran fsck and everything ran ok. i have the same problem again. i ran fsck again, but this time it didnt work. i found out about XFdrake and ran it, again same command line screen. it is a configuration error, or is there another problem. is there any way of setting a fail safe or what would be the recomended action to take.if the pclinuxos 2010 has to be re-installed its not really a problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the Fedora live dvd iso file, burned it to a dvd. I was wondering if I forgot to do something or did I do something wrong. When I try to install from the dvd I get this error message, isoLinux: Disk error 80 , AX = 42A7 , drive 9F Boot Failed: press key to retry When I press a key to retry I get the same error. I also tried to install virtual pc and get not boot disk found.

Few days ago windows got corrupt and I have to reinstall it. I put windows 7 now and as usual it erased grub. So to reinstall I put the fedora 12 installation CD on and followed some usual setup steps. When I got the command line I issued the command "grub-install /dev/sda" (sda not hda because It showed bunch of sda, sda1..) but surprisingly it said grub command not found. I remember doing it before while it worked fine.

I'm trying to install F11 on a machine that was running well under F10 just a few hours ago. I made some changes to the disk configuration, involving the addition of a dmraid-controllable fakeRAID card (SiL 3124 I think) and creating a RAID 0 array out of the two drives connected to the motherboard itself (Intel ICH7R). Otherwise the machine's configuration is identical to the way it was when running F10. My problem is thus: when I boot from the installation DVD (64-bit), the boot process doesn't make it even to anaconda. Here is the error I get, right after md devices are autoconfigured:

I am trying to install ubuntu 10.04 on windows7.windows 7 was already installed.I ollowed these steps to install ubuntu 10.04.1)First i made some freespace in hard disk to install ubuntu using windows7 default options(By shrinking).2)I used USB drive to install ubuntu.I made it bootable using unetbootin.3)I followed normal steps install(language,area,keyboard,using manual partition i installed ubuntu in free space,etc).4)I got boot menu when it restarted.PROBLEM isAs long i use only ubuntu (boot into ubuntu --shutdown--boot into ubuntu --shutdown) it works well.
If once i boot into windows 7 and restart the system i am loosing boot menu options.The following error i am getting"no module name found Aborted.Press any key to exit".If i press any key,I guess its trying boot using internet and lastly it says Operating system not found and hangs.
I currently have XP installed on a NetBook (Samsung NC10), and would like to run Fedora on it. I'm currently looking at putting Fedora onto a flash memory card to test it works OK on the hardware, before installing it to the hard disk. The problem I've got is that the boot sector is occupied by WDE software (TrueCrypt). Will this pose a problem for dual-booting XP with Fedora, or will GRUB move the boot loader in the usual way?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried to install 11.3 on my acer aspire 7530 notebook to have dual boot with xp.
I made 4 partitions: one for xp, and the three for linux were made automatically.Before installation I got the warning that the partition wasn't entirely below 128 gb, I installed anyway to give it a try.
The installation froze at 92% and after the laptop wouldn't boot.
Now I've formatted the hard disk and installed windows on a partition leaving a free un formatted partition of 100 gb.
Have just installed 9.10, again, many failed attempts previously.Cannot get to boot up and show menu on dual boot with Vista initially,However when I delete the grubenv file the system boots ok and works fine.But does not show the grub menu to choose boot up choices.Got the information to delete the file on some posts elsewhere about booting problem, and tried a longshot and got into Ubuntu for the first time from trying to install now for 3 months!The problem is the file grubenv is created each time so on subsequent boot ups the sytem fails to boot again.The Grub version is 1.97 beta 4, most up to date for Karmic I think, I have seen a version 1.98 but dont think its for Karmic?
Is there a way to modify the grub.cfg file to stop this problem ( all posts say dont touch this file??Or install a script to delete the grubenv file on shutdown as a workaround for me, (I have no idea how to do this whatsoever, I'm not familiar with linux at all)I did read that this problem was fixed/patched in Grub version 2, but dosn't seem.so on my system afetr I updated it when I got into Ubuntu.I couldnt find the patch or fix, I got the information I am on about from this post:URL...It seems to say it was fixed or patched by Colin Watson reading through, but I don't really understand whats being said or how to get the patch on my system if indeed there is one?Sorry for being a bit thick about all this, its a bit beyond my brain now, hope somebody can help out as I have enjoyed my brief bit of fun in Ubuntu.
I'm running 9.10 off of a 4 GiB CF card. I keep running into space issues with updates, so I purchased an 8 GiB replacement card. I've cloned the 4 GiB card to a .IMG file using DD.I've then copied the 4 GiB image back to the 8 GiB card using the Ubuntu startup disk creator program. Once done, I'm able to properly boot off of the new 8 GiB clone.Unfortunately, the clone ends up with 3.67 GiB of unallocated space at the end *see attached). I tried deleting the "extended" partition that the swap is located at after booting from a Live CD and the system was unable to boot after this. I was thinking that I would delete the swap entirely and create a swap file after I merged the existing partitions, but I was unable to do this.
best way to do this (e.g. get one large 8 GiB partition with my old image on it)? I still have the original untouched 4 GiB card and also have an external CF drive if I need to redo the cloning. I've also used Clonezilla before, so perhaps there's a way to do this that allow me to grow the image as it's being cloned.
I have a netbook running Windows XP as standard. There is also a recovery partition which came from the factory.
In the past I installed Ubuntu (I think 9.something) from USB key and all worked fine. However my XP became corrupted and I needed to do a repair on it. After this, Ubuntu became removed from the boot select menu.
Since then, Ubuntu has become updated to 10.04, which I now cannot install.
The Live CD tells me there is a "file IO error" and simply stops installation at around 70%.
I did manage to get into Ubuntu from a Live USB using Wubi. However when I chose to install Ubuntu to a Harddrive, the option to "install side by side" was missing.
After reading on the forums, I did a chkdsk /f on Windows and tried again. Now my liveUSB does not show a boot menu!
When I select to boot from USB stick, the screen goes blank with a flashing cursor. Ctrl+alt+dlt reboots.
I'm really lost here! It seems when I fix one problem, another problem arises!
Also when trying to instal Ubuntu within Windows, the process goes through to 100% and asks me to reboot. When I do so, the option for Ubuntu does show in the boot menu. However when I select it, I get an error "Windows boot failed: file wubildr.mbr and status: 0xc00000f - something is corrupt".
