I am trying to use the sakis3G, i choose the option connect 3G, it asks me about username required by APN?? I have no usernames, and I don't know what APN is? I prefer using the sakis3G since it looks simpler than using USB_ModeSwitch which I didn't manage to understand it from the sites you posted.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just burned the iso of openSUSe 11.4 onto a dvd, and I make it through all of the installation. At the end it reboots the computer and starts in the kernel/command line or whatever you call it. I think it's kernel. Anyway, it asks for my username and password and then it says like "have fun.." () or something and then just has like my directory or whatever waiting for commands. Is there some command to start up the OS?

Latest kernels will not boot due to cpu issue.I'm running CentOS v3.9 for kernel compatibility and have managed to get my basic LAMP setup accomplished via yum but I'd like to run the curnet versions of everything while keeping the older kernel if possible.I'm considering setting up my yum repos to include v4 or v5 and use the yum --exclude kernel option.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up a SSH key between servers so no password is required when I have to "scp" files between the two. This is what I have tried so far but still requires a password:

When I scp after this I wasn't expecting to need a password but it is still prompting. Now I have used this same method before and it has worked great. The only difference this time is server2 is not in the same cage.
Im trying to find out What all network hardware is required for a successfull Iscsi setup. Example Do you need two network cards that support it. Or do you just need one network Iscsi adapter for the storage box, and the other machine just have a normal NIC. What type of Switch would be needed as well for decent transfer rates.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter having problems with lxde crashing while running Jessie, and re-installing Wheezy, I am not able to mount my WinXP drive. In the past I was able to run pcmanfm and mount the drive from there. It would ask for my root password and then would mount the drive. Now, however, when I click on the drive icon it gives me an error message saying authentication required.
One thing is that when I installed Wheezy I had the WinXP drive disconnected so as to not inadvertently install Wheezy on the wrong drive (I have two identical drives). After installing I connected the WinXP drive and then did a grub update. I can boot either drive, as expected, but I can not mount the WinXP drive from pcmanfm. Do I need to change the Policykit?
I have installed bluez.4.81....but when i install /home/george/Desktop/obexd-0.37.tar.gz,a configuration error occurs telling that libbluetooth is required. Is there any solution??

I recently installed vsftpd on my server. I noticed that users on the machine can login into vsftpd with their username and password on the machine and go to their root dir "/home/username".Now, I want to give some people a vsftpd username and password so they can upload and download files and folders to their folder, but this folder has to be in the "/var/www/(username)" folder. I don't want them to be able to go to any other folder than their own folder like "/var", "/etc" or "/home" etc. Also I don't want them to be able to login on the machine as a user, through putty for example. They should only be allowed to acces their folder with vsftpd, nothing else.

I created a zone, local and reverse inside /etc/bind
When I try to execute:

View 2 Replies View Relatedi am trying to get a pxe server working on a debian so other clients can boot off it. the problem has two parts.
1. getting the pxe working. so far the tftp part doesnt work. the client says tftp error. so i guess the dhcp portion is working, but theres something wrong with the /var/lib/tftpboot or the deamon config itself.
2. the other issue is that in the shop many system's have non-working disk drives. also many of them do not have a usb boot option in the bios. all i need to do is get the "bare" kernel file or grub(?) to boot over pxe and give me the ability to boot from a usb flash drive and load the rest of the linux files from there. my primary intention is NOT netinstall. although it wouldnt hurt. my intention is running a linux live usb on systems without bios usb boot support. ive read somewhere that a full pxe live boot requires nfs setup. i am asking for that, just so i can boot from a flash drive.

I have the interfaces configured where eth1 is my Local LAN (loc) network, and eth0 connects to my ISP (net). But my problem is that I have no clue how to forward traffic from eth1 to eth0, without using ProxyARP, which routes all traffic to eth1, and doesn't allow traffic out on itself. I've looked at the NAT tutorials, and they don't make sense to me, because I have two interfaces that I want to be able to talk to each other and the internet at the same time. Is there anyone who's good with Shorewall?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm new here, I hope someone can help me get wireless working on my laptop. This is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C650-EZ1533 (Intel Core i3). The Toshiba site says it has "Atheros Wireless networking (802.11b/g/n)", but does not identify the hardware more specifically.
I installed Debian 6.0 from a netinstall disc, the version including nonfree hardware drivers. In the software selection I went with the defaults: only "Desktop environment", "Laptop" and "Basic system".
Now the GUI looks nice and behaves OK, and the audio, video, ethernet, and optical drive are working. However, I don't know how to configure wireless. It's probably my fault. I was installing and uninstalling file managers, trying to find one I would like better than Nautilus. When I went to uninstall one of them, a message in the package manager recommended using a command like "auto remove" or similar (I did not record it exactly). My understanding at the time was that this would only remove things that were installed because of dependencies but were no longer needed. However, *a lot* of things disappeard from the menus.
Now the only thing about networking in the menus is something about setting up a proxy. There should be some sort of network manager, right? Or an icon on the taskbar, maybe? But I don't know what package to install.
