In an attempt to get wireless working on my dell Latitude e6400 under Fedora 13 (64bit)I have downloaded and installed rpm-fusion with the understanding that it contained the driver necessary (Broadcom_wl i think). though the package manager installed both packages just fine, they are not acknowledged by yum repolist wich yeilds the results:

I just recently installed Slackware onto a virtual machine(I'm planning on buying a new disc drive and 1 TB HDD with-in the next couple of months and plan on Slackware being my primary OS[right now Mac OS X 10.6 is]), and everything went great.
I then went onto edit the /etc/inittab file in emacs and changed the run-level to 4. I don't know why it's decided that I'd want to boot into KDE when XFCE is installed and in the configuration I selected XFCE but it's not really relevant(I have a WM guide thing open in another tab and will probably be able to change it).
The problem is, as the vague title may suggest, is that it basically freezes when I'm at the log-in screen. The input field for the username is highlighted and blinking, and the cursor it self is visible in the centre of the screen, but it simply doesn't pick up on any input from my keyboard or mouse.
I tried booting up the install CD and logging in as root, mounting sda4(which is the root partition) and editing said file but sudo isn't installed(to my knowledge) on the install disc and when I do the command,

I just installed Fedora (15) for the first time. However I do not have a wired internet connection, and have the infernal BCM4312 and I understand the STA works with this (It has worked for me with other distros). In another thread, I read that I can download the relevant files (using another computer) from FedoraFusion, transfer them to the wireless computer and install.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have in my hand a CDROM with photos created by some greedy photographer. When I mount it I can see two files in there, two .exe executables about 7.7 MBs in size each. When I try to create an ISO of the cdrom, I get an IO error and only 16 MBs end up at the file.... so I would expect the photo files after the apparent EOF of the device (or whatever it's called in CDROM jargon).
Is there a way to get past this point so that I could run magicrescue on the rest of the CD so that i can get the rest of the files?
Or are there other handson hacky methods to get to that data?
I'm running Ubuntu 8.04. I've got sqlite3 installed, but I keep getting errors when trying trying to install pysqlite (2.4.1 or 2.5.1).
If I run $ python setup.py build things look like they're going ok for a while, but then I soon start getting errors:

gcc -v tells me that gcc exists so I think that last error must be a red herring.
However, after searching the web and trying lots of things, I've not managed to build pysqlite.

Ive been searching half the internet for a solution for a strange problem im having with a server (CentOS 5.2 Final). For no apparent reason, the server will just be powered off.I've looked in the dmesg log and /var/log/messages file, but that doesnt show anything, except the "syslogd 1.4.1: restart." message after booting it up again, and hours in advance of the crash a "suhosin" alert message.

I also have Ubuntu Natty installed and use it primarily but I wanted to reach out and try new distros.I've wanted to try Fedora and finally got enough nerve to try. Installing it crashed for no apparent reason several times.ehow it installed and booted right to Fedora.However, when finally figuring out how to run the updates, I began to have the same problem.(Someone elsewhere suggested trying to update through command line--which I did finally though I had a few crashes doing this).
Now I am logging in and then it will just inadvertently crash. I could be in firefox, or using terminal, etc. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to why this is happening and I feel frustrated. I really want to test out Fedora (it looks so nice!) but can't manage to stay afloat more than a few minutes. I might also mention that this does not happen in Ubuntu at all so I can't account for the issues. I have much to learn but I feel a bit intimidated by Fedora because it's so new to me.
I was struggling frantically this morning for about 5 minutes after I booted up my computer, and wondering why it couldn't connect to the internet. After I figured out that the automatic wired network "Auto eth0" was gone from the network manager, it was easy to manually add it back. But why did it disappear in the first place?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI woke up this morning to a message saying I have low disk space in /home. My /home partition is 150 GB, but I had only 4 kB left. I promptly rebooted, which helped, but I still only have 40 GB available. Now, I use only 26 GB, so where the rest is, I don't know. In the disk usage analyzer, a lot of the space was not accounted for, as shown in the image.

I checked out .gvfs and it's just a CD I have playing. I really don't know what's going on.
I've been an Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit user for one year. My Ubuntu distro is installed on an ext2 file system. Occasionally, I experience disk checks during boot without any system freeze or power loss.Sometimes, once reboot, the system works fine but Evolution Mail requests a new account, as if it was used for the very first time.Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedNetwork stopped working about a month ago. I installed ubuntu again, and network worked fine, and I turned off updates to keep things stable. Now network stopped working again. No changes had been made to it.I put in the ubuntu install cd, and network works fine off of it. I did not reinstall again. ifconfig shows eth0 with correct ip address, but 0 RX/TX packets.

For some reason, I can see both wired and wireless networks available but when I try to connect, it times out. I updated a couple of days ago and suddenly started having problems today. Anyone else having the same problem?I have only tried the router and repeater I have to connect to. My other computers are working just fine. One is actually running as a Debian server with no GUI (which I do not update as often). The other is a Mac.

When I go to edit the partitions, it won't let me do anything due to an apparent lack of a root filesystem. (I know this issue has been brought up and resolved in the past, but the usual solution (going into the validation.py file) isn't working for me, as there is no line in this one that says "if not root".)
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a firewall / proxy that has an extremely high load, but I can't figure out what's using it. No real cpu usage, the disks are sleeping except for a little log activity, it's on gigabit ethernet and not close to maxing out... Command link stuff runs fast, nothing seems slow, yet the load is sky-high. IME this kind of load is associated with a lot of disk I/O, but that's not the case here. What could be causing this, what else factors into the load?

Xubuntu 9.04 installation CD not detecting any of the current partitions. This all started when I reinstalled windows XP a few days ago.After, the computer wouldn't boot into GRUB and would boot directly into windows.Other threads have dealt with a similar issue, that of overlapping partitions causing libparted/parted/gparted to detect the whole drive as unallocated space. The problem in these threads seemed to be a corrupted partition table, in which the partitions overlapped with each other. So of course I checked the output of fdisk -l for overlapping partitions, but I don't see any obvious overlapping partitions. I've noticed that the partition that used to be linux swap isn't showing up in the partition table at all. I might just be missing something simple here and would like another set of eyes to help me figure this one out. Does the problem have anything to do with the partition table being out of order (ie. not in order of what regions they cover on the drive)? From the liveCD I've run

There have been no updates recently (for almost two months) on any of my CentOS 5.5 boxes when I run 'yum check-update'. I may be misunderstanding the repo setup, but looking at the file mod dates, it seems that there hasn't been an update since 2011-01-06:[URL]...Meanwhile, a prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor has had multiple security and bug fixes since then:[URl]...Is CentOS 5.5 still getting updated, or am I missing something (quite possible).

I followed the following procedure to install compiz (and I want compiz, not just the built in desktop effects) on my computer, all sudo with KDM disabled where necessary:
1. apt-get install nvidia-current
2. nvidia-xconfig
3. apt-get install build-essential libxcomposite-dev libpng12-dev libsm-dev libxrandr-dev libxdamage-dev libxinerama-dev libstartup-notification0-dev libgconf2-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libglu1-mesa-dev libmetacity-dev librsvg2-dev libdbus-1-dev libdbus-glib-1-dev libgnome-desktop-dev libgnome-window-settings-dev gitweb curl autoconf automake automake1.9 libtool intltool libxslt1-dev xsltproc libwnck-dev python-dev python-pyrex <- these were prerequisites mentioned by the guide on compiz.org
4. apt-get install compiz compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-kde compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-fusion-plugins-extra emerald
At this point, everything installed successfully, and nvidia driver was working perfectly.
I verified this: desktop effects worked OOB.
5. compiz --replace &
6. emerald --replace &
At this point, compiz apparently started. Emerald worked perfectly: all of the window decorations worked OOB. I went and ran ccsm, and turned on quite a few settings. It didn't enable ANYTHING. When I reran ccsm, all of the settings were back to default, and enabling any new ones had no effect on window behavior. Strange. I looked on the web and found:[url]
The ubuntu page said that I should not "Enable integration into the desktop environment" if gconf was selected. BUT THE FLAT FILE CONFIGURATION WAS SELECTED BY DEFAULT. Then I went back to the site and it said flat file configuration was recommended!
Maybe I shouldn't have enabled desktop effects first (NOTE THAT I LATER DISABLED IT and things still did not work)?
I use RPM Fusion and normally use Yumex.But is there a way to use Synaptic with RPM Fusion, or does it not work like that? I've tried adding RPM Fusion in the Repository setup area in the menu, but no luck.

Both stop working until the offending repo files are deleted and I can't download anything from any repository because "yum.py" or something doesn't release the lock and become a zombie
I don't know how to fix this as I tried to edit the repo and put the "failovermethod=priority" in it and it didn't work. I tried to make a repo file from scratch and it didn't work either.
There are no messages on the "Yum log file" I got this:
