Fedora :: 12 RPM Fusion Breaks Yum And PackageKit?
Nov 19, 2009
Installing the RPM Fusion repositories brakes Yum and PackageKit.
Both stop working until the offending repo files are deleted and I can't download anything from any repository because "yum.py" or something doesn't release the lock and become a zombie
I don't know how to fix this as I tried to edit the repo and put the "failovermethod=priority" in it and it didn't work. I tried to make a repo file from scratch and it didn't work either.
There are no messages on the "Yum log file" I got this:
Nov 19 17:34:44 Installed: rpmfusion-free-release-10-5.noarch
Nov 19 18:20:10 Erased: rpmfusion-free-release
Nov 19 18:23:35 Installed: rpmfusion-free-release-10-5.noarch
Nov 19 18:38:03 Erased: rpmfusion-free-release
So I'm here now trying to see if anybody else is experiencing this and to ask for directions as I don't know what to do.
ps: Could I copy the repositories and make a local repo? If yes where can I find information about doing that?
I wanted to install TeamViewer (for Linux). I downloaded the RPM, but when I double-clicked on it to start the installation I got the following error: The name org.freedesktop.PackageKit was not provided by any .service files I Googled around for possible solutions but I couldn't find any. Does anyone know how to fix this error and install TeamViewer? I'm using openSUSE 11.2 with GNOME desktop.
I resently installed Fedora 11 x86_64 on my Thinkpad T61 laptop. After the installation it updated 415 packages. The problem is that after the update the graphical interface for the packages manager no longer works (i come from Debian so i`m not sure exactly how it is called). Of course i can still use yum (and i probably would use it anyway because i`m used to using apt from the command line) but i don`t like to have something broken on my system. So does anyone have an idea what might be causing the problem? The graphical interface for the packages manager starts and i can search for packages and it shows the results bu as soon as i mark something for instalation and start the installation it hangs up and the window soon turns grey and unresponsive. I`ve tried waiting for some time but nothing seems to happen.
I want to install the some new packages in the fedora 14 but the PackageKit already starting at boot and this is the yum error:
Existing lock /var/run/yum.pid: another copy is running as pid 1939. Another app is currently holding the yum lock; waiting for it to exit... The other application is: PackageKit
I noticed that there are some updates (stable) in Bodhi and Fedora Community, but neither yum nor PackageKit have shown any updates available for install since 04.07.2009.
I tried the following in various combinations: pkcon make-updates yum clean all yum check-updates yum make-cache yum remove yum-presto Disabling and re-enabling repos.
When I enable updates-testing then updates from this repo are shown. But I'm positive there are some stable updates avaiable and yum just doesn't show them
yumupdatesd is enabled Don't get any errors on the command line Didn't notice any errors in logfiles
I had updated yum-presto to yum-presto-0.5.0-1.fc11.noarch on that day, but have since removed it and still don't get any updates.
this is a kind of strange question but is it possible to use up2date-gnome-applet on Fedora 13? I loved the clean and stable update mechanism used in FC 3 but I am unsure whether it will also work with F 13.For those who can't remember: Take a look at the red icon in the panel:I queried yum for rhn-packages and found the following:
Can I use one or more of the packages to get the old mechanism back? I tried to find some information about yum-rhn-plugin but I was unable to find a way to use the old up2date-applet.
Is it possible to view the full logs of what yum has done through packagekit?
I ask this, because if you update your packages, and if a configuration file cannot be automatically merged, you will have two configuration files: /etc/config.rpmnew (or .rpmsav, I don't remember) and /etc/config.code...
Is there a way to install packages with PackageKit without having to put in the root password every time I want to install a package? I set up sudo so I can install packages in a terminal without having to put in a password but I dont want to go to the terminal every time I want to install a package. And I dont want to become a root user or anything I just want to install packages without having to put in a password.
I am having trouble updating with Yum.When I open a new terminal and use 'sudo yum update' I get the following Loaded plugins: dellsysidplugin2, refresh-packagekit [URL]: [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error [Errno -3] Temporary failure in name resolution> Trying other mirror. Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: adobe-linux-i386. verify its path and try again
I tried to remove PackageKit from F15 the other day and it removed, amongst other things GDM. Kind of hosed and I re-installed. I want to remove two components in particular, the command-not-found one and the software updater, (the old add/remove programs). How do I determine what packages would be removed? I thought there was an option in yum, but it doesn't seem to be in the manual.
I did: [URL](Graphical Setup via Firefox web browser). Installed fine, but later:
Code: failure: repodata/4da3bde74300a28438f726f890d0513f4a18715ea6bb41d11f363e5989f9936a-filelists.sqlite.bz2 from updates: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.?
When i try the instructions here[URL]i get this error message "could not do simulate: Can't install /tmp/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch-3.rpm as no transaction"but i still can't install libdvdcss or watch movies. I am also having trouble installing flash but i think that is a separate problem
i visited several web pages directing how to install media-codecs especially they direct to rpm fusion site , i can't connect it
the code as rpm -Uvh [URL] and corresponding error
curl: (7) couldn't connect to host error: skipping [URL]- transfer failed
note that i have configured /etc/yum.conf for http proxy connection (my comp is behind my institute server) and i'm able to install packages and updates
I was trying to install and run Compiz fusion with fedora 12. I downloaded all the packages etc using both the gui and terminal according to some guides. When I click the desktop effects button, it says 3d is not enabled, however the guide I followed said to enter glxgears (or something to that effect) and if it came up with 3d gears then 3d was enabled...I am very confused. There was an application I ran after downloading/installing some packages that caused the screen to go white and I had to reboot. I read in another forum this may have something to do with my drivers...gotta check my graphics card specs, will post when I find them.
I made a fresh install of Fedora 13, installed the video card driver for my video card. How do I get compiz fusion to work and what do I need to install? when I enable desktop effects the system panels disappear. Also I'm looking to install that effects editor that has all the different effects menus.
Okay I think I got the menu loader and Compiz working.. for those who browse to this thread.. the answer is. yum install compiz-fusion fusion-icon the desktop cube was a little tricky to get working.
However if I enable desktop effects fromt he preferences menu the system panels still disappear.
I've searched a number of forum posts and have seen similar issues but the specifics are different and I haven't yet found a solution. I'm running Gnome on Fedora 13 and clicked "Install Updates." About 513 packages were set to be installed, but I get an error midway through:
Quote: The GPG keys listed for the "RPM Fusion for Fedora Rawhide - Free" repository are already installed but they are not correct for this package. Check that the correct key URLs are configured for this repository.
I've tried installing RPM Fusion keys and get an error saying they require "system >=15" (Fedora 15, I'm guessing?) and I don't recall ever adding these keys manually myself. Or if so, I can't recall what I did to get them in there.
I've read that some people can solve this by using a "--nogpgcheck" at the command line, but I don't know what the command line equivalent will be for this update. Ideally, I'd like to continue using the GUI updater since it offers all the info about the packages. So my hope would be to:
1. Identify the problem gpg keys 2. Install the right ones 3. Run the installer again and see everything work.
I just did a clean installation of Fedora 12 on my Intel Core2 Duo system. I installed packages to use compiz fusion. When I select the Compiz Fusion Icon option from the System Tools menu, my screen goes white, and I have to SSH into the system and reboot it
I just add both RPM Fusion free and non-free repos, and i type 'yum update' after that, then he ask me to download 300 MB of data.
My first question is: 1-what this 300 MB data contains? 2-if i reinstall fedora shuld i download the same 300MB or there is a way to save them then restore them?
I went to this link hand added the file to /etc/yum.repos.d, but get the "Could not contact source fedora-compiz-fusion, so it will be disabled" error when trying to enable the source in PackageKit
I am having problem with compiz-fusion icon in fedora 14... I have installed compiz, but when I click the compiz-icon to start it.... the system logs off and again asks password... Same thing I have done in my HP laptop, but in it, its working.. The problem comes in my pc only... I also want some help for knowing, how to add compiz-icon in the startup of the kde session...in "FEDORA 14", so that when I login using kde, the compiz-fusion automatically starts with this process... Somebody please give me a solution...Frnds I am having problem with the nvidia driver for fedora 14.. Whenever I start compiz.... The screen blacks and logs off the session
