Sorry for the lack of a description, but I do not know much about how Linux enables LEDs. I have set the button up in the XFCE keyboard settings to mute, but the LED does not work.
View 1 RepliesI think this is a bit of a complicated problem so bear with me while I explain it. I'm using an HP Laptop with Ubuntu 10.10. The laptop has the touch buttons for mute and volume up/down, and I use them all the time (at least when I was on Windows). I've very recently switched to Ubuntu and now those keys are causing problems with a game called Minecraft. Basically, when I'm playing it and use those keys, it brings me out of full screen (if I'm using fullscreen) and then seems to mute like it should, but the problem is, it doesn't UNmute when I press it again. The lighted button on the laptop goes back to showing its unmuted, but the game still has no sound. I've tried messing with the sound settings inside the game, and doing all these weird combos of when I mute/unmute and all, nothing seems to help. I usually have to restart the computer to fix it, but then if I use the button again, it does the same thing.
P.S. does anyone know of a way for these buttons to NOT interrupt full screen? I had the same problem with it interrupting fullscreen apps on windows, but then I used a program called 3RVX and it fixed it. Is there anything like this on linux?
In the last week, I noticed that my compaq 6710b physical controls for volume control/mute stopped working correctly. The volume control is not working anymore and the mute "unmutes" itself after precisely 1 minute.
I was wondering:
1/ did an update modify anything
2/ is there a way for me to know if the problem is physical? like a physical signal sniffer of some sort, or a log that indicates that I pressed mute
3/ Am I alone? and if not, does anyone know of a workaround?

I have a lenovo thinkpad and my internal microphone works only when i connect another mic through the jack. Even the mic mute button present on my laptop is not working.(There is no such problem on windows se7en) Earlier, even an external mic never used to work. After some searching i added "options snd-hda-intel model = thinkpad" to my alsa-base.conf file. And then the internal mic started working only when an external mic was connected.
when i type "cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec" i get:
Codec: Realtek ALC269
Codec: Intel G45 DEVCTG
I looked into the HD-Audio-Models.txt but couldn't locate the exact model for ALC269 so i searched online and decided to put model = thinkpad as i'd mentioned earlier. But The alsa-mixer shows card to be HDA Intel and chp as intel g45 devctg. Moreover, even this partial working of mic(s) is when i choose the input source in the alsamixer to be front mic and not int mic.
I tried restarting ALSA again, tried rebooting, Mute on/off... light stays on, briefly flickers off as ALSA restarts.

View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter I listened to the audio program on the Google Chrome, I downloaded the MP3 to listen again offline. When I clicked on the downloaded MP3 file and using Totem to hear on my computer, there is no sound. I checked the sound preference, there is NO MUTE.
I restarted computer, clicked on the MP3 file with Totem, I can hear. I can hear the sound on ...... Which process should I restart without reboot computer. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10. Here is the output after execute command "sudo lshw -c sound"

I have experienced 4 or 5 times a sound-muting bug. Suddenly speakers stop working (usually not in in the middle of something musical but when there is no sound playing) and does not work again until I reboot the system.

The power button does not work when i'm running XBMC.t works when I'm in the XFCE desktop! I push the button and the computer shut's down. What's the problem? Why does it not work in XBMC?

Could it be software related?It happened on my 700 surf for a little while, but before I could really get worked up, it had resolved itself. btw my 900 is maybe old but has not till I aquired it seen much use, I doubt it could be from overuse, but then again, you never know..

There's a "Dowload using Torrent" button for downloading albums from Jamendo but when I press it, it does NOTHING. My computer has Trasmission Bittorrent client installed as it comes by default in this distribution.Even when I can download Jamendo music using my Web Browser, I really would like to download Jamendo's music directly from Rhythmbox using that button.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to 13.1 and found the restart, shutdown buttons do not work. I have to resort to the terminal commands init 6, or poweroff. I then tried to install flash plugin. I modified the slackbuild script as per normal. Then issued the following command which seemed to succeed. But when I try to play utube movie it says flash is not installed. Do I need to rebuild the system?

I previously had Ubuntu server 9.04, 9.10 and 10.04. I use it as a headless server and the power button had always worked.at first, I updated from 10.04 to 10.10 and everything was working great but I decided to reinstall the os on a new HDD. then when I want to shutdown the server, I need to login with ssh and shutdown it with "halt -p", the power button doesn't do anything. I connected a monitor to the server to see what's happen on the screen but nothing... no message. nothing in the error log.I tried to add apm force_off=1 in the /etc/modules but still not working.

When I plug in a mouse, the middle button on the mouse works fine (firefox links, pasting text, compiz rotation, etc).
I imagine it's something that goes into xorg.conf, no? Either way

I started with Arch but 4 hours later, I'll take anything so now I'm trying Ubuntu.It appears that the keyboard function button that corresponds to my wireless does not work, and perhaps is windows dependent?Every time I try to interact with wlan0, I get the error "Operation not possible due to RF-kill". And as I've looked around online, it has been suggested in other forums that the only way to resolve this is to reinstall windows and dual boot, so the FN key will work.
I think this is ridiculous. There must be a way to persuade the RF-kill to be turned off again, shouldn't there?I don't have a recover disk for this laptop and I don't want to go through the trouble of requested one from acer. I reformatted the whole disk while attempted to install arch.
noticed that the button at the bottom left corner of the desktop doesn't work.It is supposed to hide everything on the desktop and when clicked again bring everything back.I was jacking around (learning) with Compiz yesterday, but not sure how that could affect it.
