just click the [Computer] button at the left-bottom corner of the GNome desktop, the menu will shown, now press the printscreen button [PrtSc], nothing happen. no screenshot was made.or open any application , then click the menu like [file], let the menu list shown, then press [PrtSc] button, same thing, nothing happen.
View 8 Repliesjust want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.

I have installed opensuse 11.1 in my pc and I also install the xmgrace package. However, in the xmgrace some the Symbol list in the font tool menu some symbols does not work! for example the symbols: Eur,infinity, sum, partial derivative, not equal, plus or minus, etc...

View 9 Replies View RelatedI noticed a few minutes ago that although I can open the Places and System menus fine, when I click on Applications it highlights but no drop down menu appears beneath it as usual, and when I right click and select Edit Menus also nothing happens.
I have since restarted which did not resolve the issue.
How can I remedy this, and what could have caused the problem to begin with?

When I try to open some file, including directories, "Open with..." window appears.
In the top left corner the "places and system" menus drop down, but the "applications" menu does not. It just highlights, but nothing shows up. Any ideas how to fix this?

The multimedia hotkeys (play/pause, stop, volume up/down, volume mute, ecc) stop working when i open any menu (for example mintmenu, that i use, or any menu of firefox like bookmarks) or if i start an application, such as openarena. The major problem is for volumes keys, that stop working in these cases.
Any ideas? I tried to change keyboard model, disable hotkeys mapped in prefereces->keyboard shortcut (with this they just stop working), but nothing changed.
When I open the "Open with Other Application" option on the context menu, my list of applications is excessive. I don't mind having the listing of nearly every program on my machine. What IS bothering me is the repeated entries. For example, I have Archive Mounter listed twice (one with icon, the other not). I have Banshee Media Player 3 times, DivX Player 4 times and Internet Explorer(via wine) a whopping 12 times! Where are these repeated entries and how can I remove them? The IE entries take up almost a third of my whole menu.I have looked through the files mentioned here:

I got sick to DEATH of Adobe AIR and TweetDeck screwing up constantly, and then Adobe announces there will be no more Adobe AIR for Linux. Fine, screw 'em, I'll switch to something else. So I hunt around for the options, most of which suck. Then I discover Choqok is already installed on my machine (11.4). Except the POS doesn't work.
To use it, I have to authenticate with my Twitter account. So I click Add, select Twitter, it pops up the dialog. I leave the alias as Twitter, click the authenticate with Twitter button. The Firefox icon pops up and bounces around - but Firefox is already running. So nothing happens! No Twitter access, no page loaded, nothing. I shut down Firefox, try it again. Same deal. As usual, no one bothered to test this POS software before releasing it. how to get this **** to authenticate to Twitter in the absence of ANY useful documentation for this junk?
In recent versions of KDE4, I have been able to assign the application menu to the right mouse button. In 4.6, the only thing that appears is Desktop Settings. Does anyone know when the fix for this will be included in KDE 4.6 updates? And, is it possible to move to a previous version of KDE in 11.4?

View 7 Replies View RelatedSuddenly the application launcher (the one that pops out when pressing the green chameleon button) has changed and I no longer get the formerly so pretty application launcher. Instead I now get a simple context menu style drop down menu.
I first noticed this after I updated PackageKit. is there a way to get this back to the previous applicationn launcher. When adding just the applet (without the button) it still looks the same, just the button doesn't pop it out anymore, as it chose to pop out a grey drop down instead.

Here's what i'm trying to do: i have a 300GB IDE hard drive that has a OpenSuse build. I am trying to replicate this HD so that i can have another box similar to the original one...my second drive is 500GB SATA.
So far, I just ran a 'dd' command to copy the 300GB to 500GB. Now, after having read on internet, i realized i need to change fstab & /boot/grub/menu.lst. specifically, we need to change for ex:/dev/disk/by-id/ata-Maxtor_7L300S0_L60LCJ0G-part1 to /dev/disk/by-id/sda1 i did use a Ubuntu LiveCD to access the fstab and changed the line as mentioned above. Now, how do i change the menu.lst?? right now, when i try booting up from this HD, i have issues. specifically, i get this error message: could not find /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
I've recently installed suse x64 kde in dual boot mode with windows. I have 2 primary partitions with ntfs with 1 for windows7 boot and other for data/storage. There is no boot provision for data partition. SUSE install is on extended partition. I am unable to run fdisk -l and boot info script for some reason, kde is freaking me out (used to use gnome for last 4 years). The GRUB shows data as a boot and it added an entry in its menu. I will like to remove that entry from menu list.

At the moment it shows Windows XP, Ubuntu, Ubuntu recovery mode & like 2 more.. which are also Ubuntu & recovery mode. I've never selected the other Ubuntu ones, only the first one. I am new to opensuse, having migrated from Ubuntu. I have had some difficulty with power management on Ubuntu so i decided to install opensuse with kde as i heard it was good for laptops. I have had lots of trouble getting opensuse 11.4 to boot properly and to run without freezing.
I have trawled the forums and bugzilla and the documentation, e.g. SDB:ATI - openSUSE and SDB:Configuring graphics cards - openSUSE. Consequently i am now able to boot (normally), however whenever i open any application, e.g. Dolphin file manager, Firefox, etc, the tab starts to load (little circle starts spinning on the tab), and then it freezes.
At this point I can exit X Windows and enter the text mode. I have repeated this with the FGLRX and Radeon drivers running. This is always repeatable. I can also boot into level 3 and do things there.
My computer details are:
HP Pavilion dv6 3032TX
Processor - Intel i7 720 QM
Ram - 6GB
GPU - ATI Mobility Radeon 5650
Harddrive - 640GB 5400rpm

1. First 4 steps on SDB:Configuring graphics cards - openSUSE
2. Install and run FGLRX
Note that i cannot failsafe boot - it never boots into X Windows and just hangs. I really do like the look and feel of opensuse and would love to use it, but at this point my only option is to try another distro.
i am having a problem on Ubuntu 10.10. In system menu, there is no Administration or Preferences menu.Also, application menu does not show anything. I am using Ubuntu since 2 weeks and still not used to to the terminal commands for running applications and admin tools.
one more thing.When i booted my PC today it reported an error and process terminated before reaching the login window. So i restarted and chose recovery mode. it also reported some errors and tried to fix the problem. it deleted some files i think. and my system is working again but with above mentioned problem.
I'm having trouble mounting hard drives and partitions - and am rather nervous about using Yast partitioner to do this. Is there something that would tell me about mount points in Yast partitioner? So far I haven't been able to find that information anywhere. I don't want to lose information on existing drives and partitions but do want to be able to access them.Some of them appear under disk information in "My Computer" but if I try to mount them I get this error message.There is no application installed that can open files of the type block device (inode/blockdevice).I was trying to edit fstab,his didn't seem straightforward either. I've been hacking this about in other Linux distros - so not entirely clueless

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a free image stacking application in Linux. I do a lot of macro work and I even use stacking for larger pieces of work as well. It allows me to create a better, larger DOF than you would normally get with a Macro lens, which tends to be shallow. If you have never heard of stacking images it is like stitching images together for a panorama image. Only this works by selecting the sharpest parts of the image. The images are stacked up on top of eachother, the software selects the sharpest parts of each image and the joins them all up making your object hopefully sharper. You need a tripod to do this work.

Everything was running fine before the update however post a number of features have stopped working or have changed. I used the command zypper up to update everything. The errors I've been recieving are as follows, Wastebasket
Won't open on via Desktop or Places menu. Gives the following error "Could not display "trash:" File Is Of An Unknown Type". If I drop things on the Wastebasket the files do go to /home/USERNAME/.local/share/Trash/files but I can't Empty Wastebasket upon right click as the option is highlighted out.
Computer Icon If I try to open it from link in Places menu I get the error Nautilus cannot handle "computer" locations.. The link to it has also disappeared from the left hand panel if I have a Nautilus window open.
Mounted Icons Previously I used to have 4 drives mounted;
1 network (NFS),
1 encrypted (TrueMount),
2 Windows (partitions of main machine)
Out of these only the encrypted and network drive showed on the Desktop and two Windows drives would stay mounted under /windows but have no icon on the Desktop. After the update, all these drives are on the desktop and but the only way to not have them appear on Desktop is to set Gnome config not to show any of the icons on Desktop. Although these are independent errors, they are all related to folders (at least indirectly) so I felt it was better to group them together to give a better picture of the issue.
I would like to get the predefined application icon to open the same file types.
for instance: *.avi, *.mp3 to have the VLC icon
and other application to have the icon of their default application.
So far I only found tips to install single icons or to add icon packs. :S
and is there any way to when you install an application make it default for such file types ?
My problem is I can't shutdown directly from kde, I can only log out to gdm. How can I fix this?
