Hardware :: Kernel Not Properly Detecting RevoDrive X2
Apr 21, 2011
I just installed a OCZ Revodrive X2 in my system, and have been trying to get linux to detect it properly. I have the BIOS set to AHCI, Windows has no problem seeing the raid drive, but not linux. I have all the RAID options built in to my kernel, as well as the Silicon Image 3124/3132 SATA support, as that is what Windows detected when I installed the driver. I want set it up as my linux boot drive, but I dont' know what I am doing wrong.
Now mdadm detects and activates the partiton, however my gui partitioning programs see each individual drive, not the array. When I run parted from the command line it detected the array and partitioned it without a problem. I am stymied at this point. I am new to dealing with RAIDs, however my understanding was that since this has it's own hardware controller, shouldn't it automatically be passed on as is to the kernel?

I am new to Ubuntu.I have used Gentoo Linux for about ten years, but got to a point in my life where fixing problems is not as much fun as it used to be. I just need something that works, and so I switched to Ubuntu. So recently, I decided to hook up my desktop computer to my 40" LCD TV. It's running an onboard Nvida geforce 7150 with 256 MB of RAM. It's got an HDMI out put that I'm running directly to my TV. The problem is, it's not detecting the size of the TV quite properly, and I lose the top and bottom of the screen, where my gnome menus and icons are. I can't boot into recovery mode because it no longer shows me my grub menu. I can't reconfigure X because I can't stop X from running. Not sure that it would help anyway. I do still have the LCD that it worked with before that I could hook up if need be, but I'd really prefer not to have to move it to where the TV is.I'm running the latest Ubuntu for AMD64, with a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo and 2GB of RAM. Any advice?

I am using a linux FC-12 machine which is running on 2.6.36 kernel. I wanted to use the USB data card with that machine. But it is not detecting the device. I found that the modules usbserial, option, qcserial were missing. I installed them using "insmod".After that I have removed and reconnected the device. Still the OS is not detecting the device. After the reboot of the machine, again the modules related to USB are missing.

I am working on linux kernel building and customising for our requirement. All these days we were using 2.6.9EL5 kernel to create our own Bootable kernel. Lately we moved to 2.6.33.3 as SATA CDROM support was not available during booting with the earlier kernel. Now with the new kernel i have got all the updates i wanted with respect to hardware detection during booting but having an issue with my PS2 mouse not auto detecting while booting. However i can configure the mouse with the popup that comes during booting by selecting the generic PS2 3 button mouse option. With this my mouse works properly. I am wondering is there a way to make the mouse auto detectable.I have attached one of the Xconfig file that is part of our process.

I tried to put Avast on my 11.04 machine, it didn't work, what's worse is that now only one kernel will work properly. any time i try any kernel other than 2.6.38-9-generic(it came with the install CD)the boot process stops at different points but it's during the time that it is starting and stopping processes. oh yeah, i've tried install different linux systems and they all work with what comes with the install cd but when i try to change the kernel same problem.

I've been having trouble getting the latest kernel to update, due to an error resolving dependencies. I've used yumex to remove old versions of kmod-nvidia that were fc10 specific, and gotten past that. However, when I updated the kernel, yumex reported that mkinetrd failed. Checking, the newest kernel listed in grub.conf is the one I'm using, not the one I just installed. What do I need to do to get the updated kernel properly listed and ready to use?

I got a new laptop, this is the one: [URL] and decided that I wanted to go with Fedora instead of Ubuntu with this computer. The laptop runs win 7 64 bit so I'm trying to go with Fedora 64 but it will not boot. I first installed Fedora 12 64 bit from the DVD install and it would go to grub fine but when I boot the fedora os It just stops in the middle of the boot script. When it stops, the last 4 lines are:
kernel_init=0x1fd/0x257
child_rip+0xa/0x20
? kernel_init+0x0/0x257
? child_rip+0x0/x20
I hadn't messed with it for a few weeks and yesterday I saw that 13 was out, so I downloaded and burnt the Fedora 13 64 bit CD. I popped it in, booted the computer and it did the same crap. It didn't stop at the same line but it was around a line with:
? kernel_init
So I guess the kernel isn't loading properly or something. Do ya'll think I would be better off using the 32 bit?

The new 2.6.35.7 kernel fails to boot on my Lenovo laptop. I had previously compiled a 2.6.35 kernel with a couple of different .config files and never had it boot properly. The failure occurs very quickly and I am including the final screenshot in case that helps.

When I insert a cd into my optical drive, it is not showing up on my file menu. In Rhythmbox, I used to get an icon for the cd which I could click on to play the cd but that doesn't come up any more. I have my File Management Preferences set to ask me what to do when I insert a cd but it no longer asks me what to do. Banshee is the only thing left that shows a cd icon. How do I get my file management system and other programs to recognize a cd when inserted?

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 via Wubi (Dual-boot with Win 7; everything went smoothly; was able to install Nvidia drivers, various packages and everything went silky smooth overall. This morning I attempted to log-in to my Profile (on Ubuntu) and I found that my Keyboard would not respond; I attempted to unplug and replug the keyboard back in, restart the computer, everything; yet it will not detect my keyboard.

I'm having trouble getting the debian installer to detect an existing LVM
I installed Lenny on LVM on top of RAID 1.
My system looks like this:
I just added two 1.5 TB drives in raid 1 to the logical volume group home 100% added to /home /dev/md3
I went to reinstall the system from the lenny disc and now the installer does not recognize the LVM. It did recognize the LVM before I added md3 to the LVM.
During the partition editor, if i go to a terminal (by going to another window/console) and give the command vgdisplay it says that physical volume with UUID V0S1Yx-361r-NZaE-w1Fy-kCFQ-9MmH-g287vh cannot be found. You will see below that the UUID refers to /dev/md3 (the added 1.5 raid 1 array)
Below is the output of "pvdisplay" and "mdadm --detail /dev/md3"
I don't know if this has to do with it but /dev/md3 is the only array that says local to host yield [yield is my hostname] next to its UUID after the mdadm --detail command.

In my laptop, ealier in XP OS whenever I was connecting USB Modem, it was giving message "Power surge on USB Hub Port". Now, I have put new hard disk with a single partition and installed Ubuntu 9.04 on it. After installation, it was detecting USB for a day or two and I/net was working fine. But now the system is not detecting USB Modem et al. Is it because of some hardware problem or is there anything that I can check into Ubuntu?

When in an SSH session I modify my command prompt by appending (ssh) to the command prompt string. Works nicely to remind me I'm in an SSH session.I also modify the prompt command by inserting the host name, but the (ssh) string really helps.Works nicely until I run the su - {username} command. Using the "-" option ignores the original SSH environment variables that are created.Of course, when not using the "-" option then the original SSH environment variables are preserved.Any ideas how I can determine I am in an SSH session to modify the command prompt after using the "-" option?

Well I have this really shweet Samson C01U usb studio condenser mic. When it is plugged in before I boot my machine, everything works like a charm, and I can sound like a rockstar recording my stuffs in UbuntuStudio 10.04 x64.But when I'm not being a rockstar, I'm using my normal Lucid distro to go about my everyday tasks. So when I decide to call someone on skype, I plug the mic in, and nothing happens. The sound config window does not show the device? I do not want to reboot every time to use the mic (and that's all that works), and I do not want to leave it standing on my desk either.

Code:

I have Fedora 12 installed and fully updated. For some reason my printer is not detected by the system. The printer is an HP932C Deskjet connected via parallel port, vanilla stuff.
Other current distros (openSUSE, Ubuntu, Scientific Linux) are also installed and locate the printer with no problem.
Per the info listed on the "Common Fedora Bugs" page I installed the foomatic package. Also, ran yum update system-config-printer which reported this package was installed and up to date (system-config-printer-1.1.18-2.fc12 (i686)).
When I go to System -> Preferences -> Default Printer no printer is displayed in the window. Clicking on the Printer or Location buttons lists nothing.
how to get the printer detected/working?

Since i upgraded to F14 I have been having an annoying problem with compiz: I have twinview and an nvidia 8800GTS. Windows like transmission and pidgin that i put on my second monitor and then hide, have their position reset to the center left side of the screen on the absolute border of the first monitor. this is probably a problem with how compiz is detecting the outputs.
EDIT: Any windows that have their position saved to the second screen will be reset to hug the center left side of the screen.
SOLVED: I manually set the outputs in compiz and the selected use largest output first in Place Windows plugin.

I have Ubuntu 9.10 and Win7 both installed on my desktop. I use Windows for gaming (when I actually have the chance...) Anyway, for some reason update-grub is not detecting my Win7 installation, neither is os-prober. I attempted to add a custom Grub2 entry to point to Windows 7, however, when I select it from Grub, I simply get a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper-left, after waiting 20 minutes, Windows still hadn't loaded.
Here are hopefully all the relevant files:
sudo fdisk -l
Code:
Disk /dev/sda: 250.1 GB, 250059350016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 30401 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x059c059c .....
