CentOS 5 :: Yum Still Running During Kickstart Post Installation Script

Sep 13, 2011

I put a script into the post installation of kickstart and the log showed that the yum that is started in the script had to wait for yum to finish. I understand I can (and will) put this package in the packages section, but isn't it bad that yum is still finishing up when the post installation is initialized? Has anyone else noticed this?

General :: Mount Pendrive With SUDO

Feb 9, 2010

I can login into my linux only as normal user "abc". my slax is giving HAL error in automounting pendrive.

To mount a pendrive i have to login as root in a terminal with SU command and then i can access the pendrive through command line. i normally copies my files into "abc" home directory and browses it from there in konquorer file browser......this is tedious job...everytime.

My idea is to have an icon on "abc" desktop ...which onclick will execute a shell script and manually mount my pendrive in READ WRITE mode at background and display the pendrive folder contents.... using KDE Scripting.

Debian :: Mount The Multiple Partitions Of A Pendrive - Flashcard?

Dec 27, 2009

I did this with :

Code:

I made two partitions as below

Code:

3. Partition Compact Flash

Make two partitions on CF (use linux fdisk or anything else that is able to make linux filesystem)

1. at least 8MB FAT

2. rest ext2 (recommended) or ext3 - at least 50MB

Copy vmlinuz, initrd, linexec and params.txt to FAT partition.
Uncompress rootfs.tar.bz2 to ext2 partition. (command details at ref. [1])

But :

fdisk -l says only one /dev/sdd1

not sdd1a
not sdd1a

How can I mount those 2 created partitions, since they are hidden under /dev/sdd1 ?

Is it a bug of the kernel?

General :: Unable To Mount A Pendrive - Message - Module Usb-ohci Not Found

Sep 30, 2010

I need to use a pendrive with the Slackware 13.0 and I've tried a lot of things I've found at the internet but unfortunately they didn't work. It's not possible to use graphical interface because some reasons. So the problem need to be solved by command line.

When I use "lsusb" command, I can see the pendrive.

However, when I try these:

I got the following message: "Module usb-ohci not found" and "Module usbcore not found"

How can I deal with these problem? Because I guess without these module loaded it's not possible to mount the pendrive. Is it right?

Red Hat :: Kickstart Mount Partition In %post?

Feb 18, 2011

I am trying to automate installs of Red Hat 5.5 x86. I have a FAT32 partition on my disk at /dev/sda1 that I want to mount to /cdrv folder of the installed OS and I use this line in the %post section for this:"mount -t vfat -o iocharset=utf8,umask=000 /dev/sda1 /cdrv"
For some reason, this does not mount the partition.onfirm using "fdisk -l>>/post.log" that /dev/sda1 is FAT32 and is the Boot partition. I can create any folders or files using the %post section but just this mounting doesnt seem to work.

Ok.After F15 install, the DVD backup won't mount. I've tested a generic DVD from a tech book and this will mount. Ok.What else can I do? hfs-tools is installed. CentOS 5 :: Kickstart File Post - Copy / Paste Scripting

Feb 23, 2010

I want to design a kickstart file that creates an unattended installation (I've passed that part). After it installs, I want it to automatically read the device's MAC address and change the hostname to match the MAC address with the separators removed. (For example if the MAC address is 01-02-03-04-05-06, the prompt after login should read "root@010203040506")

I know this is entered in the "%post" section of the kickstart file, and I know I'm supposed to use the "cut" and "sed" commands, but I have no idea what I'm doing or how to do it. script so I can copy/paste it into my kickstart file?

Installation :: How To Multiboot From USB PenDrive

Jun 11, 2009

I have a USB PenDrive (FAT32 file system) that has 2 boot options. Boot option 1 = runs a program that updates my BIOS. Boot option 2 = runs a program that executes a basic hardware test on the PC. I don't need to access any HDD or load any operative system. the pen drive is using a DOS bootstrap (like the one you obtain when you format a device using /s option under DOS).

Can I use an advanced graphical bootloader to accomplish the same thing? It would be nice to have a background bootsplash logo of the company, while the user selects one of the two boot options, using the cursor keys. Just like GRUB...

Ubuntu Installation :: USB Pendrive Out Of Space?

May 28, 2011

While installing Ubuntu from USB (made with usb-creator), I began getting errors such as 'ubi-timezone has failed with exit code 1', with a retry / continue / cancel option, finally getting 'Installer has failed with exit code 1'

Now when I try to run Ubuntu directly from the USB key, it won't start properly, giving errors about zero drive space.

I'm now unable to continue the installation or even use Ubuntu from the USB!

How I can fix this? At least, how can I remove whatever has filled up the USB so I can run from it?

SUSE / Novell :: 11.3 DVD Installation From Pendrive Not Working?

Aug 2, 2010

I'm having issue with trying to put the 11.3 DVD iso to a USB pendrive...I've verified the ISO md5sum matches, formatted the pendrive to FAT32, unmounted and finally done:

# isohybrid openSUSE-11.3-DVD-x86_64.iso
# dd if=/path/to/iso/openSUSE-11.3-DVD-x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M;sync

Everything appears to work fine, but once I try to boot I geterror saying no installation CD/DVD is not found and is asking for software installation repository, so I select the media as hard drive since if I select cd/dvd drive, the messag "no repository found"...then I select the USB drive (sdc1 4.2GB, iso9660, openSUSE-DVD) then it asks for "enter the source directory"...I'm not certain what to enter there, so I just point to the root directory "/" and installation continues...followed by "no new driver updates found"....so GUI starts up again...it loads kernel modules, to confirm "usb-storage"...then a message "the partitioning on disk /dev/sdc is not readable by the portioning tool parted,...." I click OK...finally I get stuck on

CentOS 5 :: Mount Error: Can't Mount An Encrypted Volume With An Overlaying Ext3 FS

Jun 6, 2010

I created a encrypted volume on top of software raid1. These are my steps:

1. Create logical partition on sda

2. Create logical partition on sdb (same size)

3. Change type to partition to 'fd' for both partitions

4. Check that the both partitions are same size and type fdisk -l /dev/sda && fdisk -l /dev/sdb

5. partprobe

6. Make sure there are no remains from previous RAID installations on /dev/sdb by running: mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sda6 mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sdb6

7. mdadm --create /dev/md4 --level=1 --raid-disks=2 /dev/sda6 /dev/sdb6

8. watch cat /proc/mdstat

9. update mdadm.conf mdadm --examine --scan | grep mdx >> /etc/mdadm.conf

10. Load twofish module [root@localhost ~]# modprobe twofish

11. # cryptsetup -y -c twofish-cbc-essiv:sha256 create ftdata /dev/md4 Enter passphrase: Verify passphrase:

12. mkfs.ext3 -b 4096 -R stride=8 /dev/mapper/ftdata

13. mkdir /ftdata

14. Mount the encrypted volume:
mount -O noatime /dev/mapper/ftdata /ftdata

It mounts successfully this first time. When I cd /ftdata, I can see the lost+found dir

[Code]....

So why is it that I can't mount my encrypted volume after the first time? I am giving the correct password when it asks to.
