OpenSUSE Network :: Nfs Server On 11.2 - Mount.nfs: Mount System Call Failed

Apr 29, 2010

I've tried to get an opensuse box I have to share a directory via NFS. I've failed each time, but I thought that the third time, I'd enlist some help from the forums, if I could. how do I know that the nfs server and not the client is the problem? Short answer is: I don't! That's why nfs (and many netwrk problems) are laborious, you're troubleshooting needs to take place at both source and desitination. Next question, what do I have set up so far? Well, I did download the nfs server kernel stuff (two months back) and /etc/init.d/nfsserver start seems to get set up OK. No errors and the daemons nfsd, idmapd, mountd area all running. So, I *think* that part is OK. I have the share set up properly in /etc/exportfs and have "exportfs -r" it.

OK, now onto the trickier stuff: the client and iptables. On the client pinging to the nfserver box is perfect, and I have rpcbind running. the reported error is "mount.nfs: mount system call failed" though from experience nfs errors don't mean a whole lot. However, I will go off and check now and see if I need a mountd running on client-side too. Then there's iptables .... ouch, that could be a long and painful trek. I don't see any specific ports being blocked, and it's the iptables that the default v11.2 opensuse came with. I did turn them off and the problem was the same, so whether wishfl thinking or not, I'm hoping it's not an iptables issue.

CentOS 5 Server :: Can't Mount Ext4 Filesystem In Centos 5.6?

Sep 7, 2011

Summary of issue: EXT4 filesystem won't mount--with error = mount: unknown filesystem type 'ext4'. Is no ext4 in kernel the issue? Or is something corrupted?Really perplexed by this. I updated Centos 5.5 to 5.6 to get ext4 (5.6 is supposed to have full support of ext4). I built several arrays and put the ext4 filesystem on them. All went well until I tried to mount them. BTW, this array (below) is set up as a RAID6 using partition 1 of #8 2TB drives.Bear with me here; just trying to be complete and not waste your time.

Attempting to mount give this:[root]# mount -v /dev/md1 /asc/array1mount: unknown filesystem type 'ext4'Note: it does "fake" mount with ption (which apparently does everything except the system call):[root]# mount -f -v /dev/md1/dev/md1 on /asc/array1 type ext4 (rw,grpquota,usrquote)e2fsprogs:Package e2fsprogs-1.39-23.el5_5.1.x86_64 already installed and latest version (for Centos 5.6; CentOS 6x uses the 1.41...)

Server :: File Server For Windows - Mount More Than One Samba Shares As Network Disk

Jun 17, 2011

I want to setup a Linux File Server for a small windows network (around 50 users). I do know that I am gona need Smb service/pkg for that. I haven't used Samba for a while now and as per the best of my knowledge, entire communication (including usernames and passwords) between a samba server & windows client machines will be plain text. Is there any way to secure all this communication??

Secondly, if i remember correctly, MS windows wont let me mount more than one samba shares as network disk when all my shares can be accessed by different smb users with different passwords?? is there a solution to this problem? OR may be if there is any other package available for this purpose so that i wont have to use samba?

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.2 - Unable To Mount NFS Shares On Server

Jan 2, 2010

I have a Thecus NAS with nfs support running. Now I switched from OpenSUSE 10 to 11.2 on the client side and aren't able to mount my nfs shares. With SuSe 10.0 I didn't have any problems.

The /etc/exports:
/raid/home_nas1 192.168.0.24/31(rw,no_root_squash,sync,anonuid=99,anongid=99,no_subtree_check)
/raid/soundandmore 192.168.0.24/31(rw,no_root_squash,sync,anonuid=99,anongid=99,no_subtree_check)

On the client side I'm able to see the shares:
showmount -e nas1
Export list for nas1:
/raid/home_nas1 192.168.0.24/31
/raid/soundandmore 192.168.0.24/31

The client address:
inet addr:192.168.0.27

I'm using nfs-3:
mount -t nfs nas1:/raid/soundandmore/mnt
mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting nas1:/raid/soundandmore

CentOS 5 Server :: NFS Mount Of Loop Mounted ISO's Showing No Files

Jul 16, 2009

I'm having a problem accessing files via nfs where an iso has been mounted through the loop device on the nfs server. Basically what I am attempting to do is access the 6 CentOS 5.2 ISO's via NFS from one of my client machines. The client is able to mount the share and see its sub directories leading up to the mount point of the ISO, but the contents of the mounted ISO image are simply not visible (on the client, they are visible on the server).

Server config (CentOS 5):

/etc/fstab:
/home/user/iso/CentOS-5.2-x86_64-bin-1of7.iso /exportiso/centos/x64/5.2/disc1 iso9660 defaults,loop 0 0

NFS is working correctly for other mounts between these two boxes, however.

CentOS 5 Server :: ISCSI Volumes No Longer Mount After Reboot?

Sep 22, 2011

We have a Centos 5.6 server mounting two iSCSI volumes from an HP P2000 storage array. Multipathd is also running, and this has been working well for the few months we have been using it. The two volumes presented to the server were created in LVM, and worked without problem. We had a requirement to reboot the server, and now the iSCSI volumes will no longer mount. From what I can tell, the iSCSI connection is working ok, as I can see the correct sessions, and if I run 'fdisk -l' I can see the iSCSI block devices, but the O/S isn't seeing the filesystems. Any LVM command does not show the volumes at all, and 'vgchange -a y' only lists the local boot volume, not the iSCSI volumes. My concern is that, the output of 'fdisk -l' says 'Disk /dev/xxx doesn't contain a valid partition table' for all the iSCSI devices. Research shows that performing the vgchange -a y command should automatically mount any VG's that aren't showing, but it doesn't work.

There's a lot of data on these iSCSI volumes, and I'm no LVM expert. I've read that some have had problems where LVM starts before iSCSI and things get a bit messed up, but I don't know if this is the case here (I can't tell), but if there's a way of switching this round that might help, I'm prepared to give it a go.There was absolutely no indication there were any problems with these volumes, so corruption is highly unlikely.

CentOS 5 :: Web Server Uncontactable From Network?

Mar 10, 2010

For several months I've been running a Centos 5.3 server on a home network. The server hosts PHP, Postgres and lighttpd and other open source software bundle into a system I call RIMS. PHP, Postgres and lighttpd and other open source software were compiled from tar files. All Windows machines on the network can access RIMS via lighttpd. No special firewall rules are required on the PCs or on the 5.3 server.

With the release of Centos 5.4 I decided to do a major upgrade to MJR and built a new 5.4 server using a minimal install from CD1, with all options deselected. The details of the installation are available at http://pastebin.centos.org/31877. I added gcc, gcc-c++, m4, make, mlocate and vixie-cron using yum, to give me a compiler and a search capability on the new server.

Problem: when I compile and start lighttpd (or nginx or httpd) on the new server none of the Windows PC can connect to the server - they time out waiting for a connection. I didn't discover this until I'd installed a lot of open source software on the server, so I went back and rebuilt the server with only lighttpd on it, but the problem persists.

I thought it might be a firewall or Selinux problem so I compared the Selinux variables on the 5.3 server with those on the 5.4 server and they are basically the same. Setting httpd_can_network_connect on doesn't make any difference. I also compared the iptables script on both servers and they are the same. I've run nmap on the 5.4 server and it shows port 80 is open. The list of installed packages on the 5.4 server is available at [URL]...

CentOS 5 :: Mount Error: Can't Mount An Encrypted Volume With An Overlaying Ext3 FS

Jun 6, 2010

I created a encrypted volume on top of software raid1. These are my steps:

1. Create logical partition on sda

2. Create logical partition on sdb (same size)

3. Change type to partition to 'fd' for both partitions

4. Check that the both partitions are same size and type fdisk -l /dev/sda && fdisk -l /dev/sdb

5. partprobe

6. Make sure there are no remains from previous RAID installations on /dev/sdb by running: mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sda6 mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sdb6

7. mdadm --create /dev/md4 --level=1 --raid-disks=2 /dev/sda6 /dev/sdb6

8. watch cat /proc/mdstat

9. update mdadm.conf mdadm --examine --scan | grep mdx >> /etc/mdadm.conf

10. Load twofish module [root@localhost ~]# modprobe twofish

11. # cryptsetup -y -c twofish-cbc-essiv:sha256 create ftdata /dev/md4 Enter passphrase: Verify passphrase:

12. mkfs.ext3 -b 4096 -R stride=8 /dev/mapper/ftdata

13. mkdir /ftdata

14. Mount the encrypted volume:
mount -O noatime /dev/mapper/ftdata /ftdata

It mounts successfully this first time. When I cd /ftdata, I can see the lost+found dir

[Code]....

So why is it that I can't mount my encrypted volume after the first time? I am giving the correct password when it asks to.

Server :: HTTP Network Install - CentOS 5.4

Jul 9, 2010

I've been attempting to setup PXE/HTTP network installs so we can better handle deployments for new systems. I have a test CentOS 5.4 VM running, and another test VM that I want to deploy 5.4 to. TFTP, DHCP are all working correctly. Apache 2.2.3 config "seems" OK. When I kick off the VM which I will install to, DHCP discovery and IP allocation works, the TFTP server is found, I am presented with a menu option of OS selection.

I choose #1, for my 5.4 but then it immediately tells me:
"Invalid or corrupt kernel image"

/var/log/messages doesnt show anything other than the DHCP OFFER/ACK process and that TFTP client doesn't accept options
/var/log/httpd/error_log doesnt show anything either
Not sure where else to look for diagnosis.
My Apache config directory: /var/www/html/CentOS

Content listing:
[root@CentOS-test CentOS]# ls -la

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jul 9 10:38 pxelinux.cfg
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 932 Jul 9 10:33 vmlinuz

pxelinux.cfg contains:

default
pxeos.xml

My Apache DocumentRoot: /var/www/html/CentOS
Directives:
<Directory "/var/www/html/CentOS">
AllowOverride None
Options None
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>

Forgot to add this line from my pxelinux.cfg/default file:
label 1
kernel 5.4/vmlinuz
append initrd=5.4/initrd.img ramdisk_size=16000 method=http:/10.37.129.3/CentOS ip=dhcp

(I think I have found my problem.. 5.4 was in the TFTPBOOT directory, but now that I'm using HTTP, I changed this to be:
kernel CentOS/vmlinuz and append initrd=CentOS/initrd.img) -- question is, will just changing this work?

CentOS 5 Networking :: Poor Network Performance On New Server?

Jan 29, 2009

ok, we had to move one of our databases due to failing hardware. This box is newer than the old but it's just dog slow. 1st I thought it was mysql but now I am realizing it's the network. As a test, I tried copying a remote file to that box and the old server (located at the same co-lo, same provider), same switch, etc.Here are the results;

Old server:
access_log.1 100% 4192KB 1.4MB/s 00:03

New Server:
access_log.1 100% 4192KB 72.3KB/s 00:58

So now I see why people were complaining about webpage load times, etc. I can't figure out why the network latency. I looked around a bit, see below for some things, I thought mtu, nic speed, etc.

mii-tool shows;
eth0: 100 Mbit, full duplex, link ok
eth1: 100 Mbit, full duplex, link ok[code].....

Are there other things I can type to test or provide more feedback somehow to get more information.
