I am trying to recover some photos from my 8GB flash card that decided to crap out. I keep getting SDA read capacity failed. Is there a way I can force the kernel into saying that the read capacity is 8GB so I can run ddrescue or something over it to recover the data?

I'm kind of hoping that many of the apps I am looking for live on this mirror. It was installed by default by CentOS 5.5 when I installed.
My repo file is included at the bottom. Checking the path http://mirror.centos.org/centos-5/5.5/ there is no media dir which would explain the 404 error I get when I try to enable the repository. The question is where does it live or is this repo defunct? code...
I have a multisession DVD-R with an unreadable volume descriptor caused by a bad DVD burning using growisofs. The DVD is not physically damaged. I tried to recover the data reading directly from /dev/hdc but it throws an input/output error. I believe the error is caused by the broken volume descriptor. That's why I'd like to know a way to make a low-level DVD image that doesn't use the volume descriptor.
Once I have the image I'll manage to recover the data, but now i can't access anything at all. By the way, i've already tried all this programs and anyone worked:

computer running ubuntu 10.10 is failing to boot and I want to access the private data in the home folder in order to recover data onto another disk. How do I go about doing this? As far as I can remember its not encrypted but am still unable to access the data to backup.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an SD card and when I plug it in to my desktop (which is openSUSE 11.3), it shows up in Dolphin and shows all folders and files. however when i try to view or copy a file(either by double clicking or using "cp" command) it throws an error:

I was testing a bug in F12+Acer Aspire One and its 'suspend' feature (you can probably find the thread) and I ended with my SDHC card messed up. I formatted it as ext2 (or ext3, don't remember exactly) and apparently its superblock got corrupted. For one thing there is a single file I want to recover from the card (I don't mind formatting it afterwards). I am no expert using e2fsck or fsck, that's why I am asking here. In addition I used the "dd" command to create a backup of the drive in a file (so I can start tinkering with it). What is the best course of action to recover my files? Either from the card or from the image?

After getting a SDHC-compatible reader i found it seems there is no part. table on the card and no fdisk(1), badblocks(1) can read that card.
Seems they will wait forever to get a part table.

I saw this thread, which led me to try rmmod'ing related modules for video4linux and my card, but modprobe'ing everything back in didn't solve the issue.
I have a GeForce 8600M GS card in a Dell Vostro 1710, which has appeared to be playing up lately, but I'm unsure whether it's the hardware itself or have I not properly set things up.
I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed with compiz, and 'rotate cube' enabled. The 'deformation' is set to cylinder. I recently tried using rss-glx (really slick screensaver) when the slow-down and screen freezes happened.
The symptoms:
Odd behaviour begins after attempting to log in after the screensaver has blanked the screen, i.e. screensaver ran for a while then the screen blanked. When logged back in, a 'cylinder' rotate freezes and the screen does not refresh. Clicking around the screen refreshes it somewhat. Switching between screens becomes next to impossible and a restart is required.
In general rotating the cube is OK, rotating the cylinder seems a task on the video card and rotating the sphere is horribly slow.
Things done so far:
Each time I log in, I need to open the NVidia settings and change the powermizer to 'prefer maximum performance'. On next reboot I will try this in xorg.conf code...
My questions are:
- How can I verify the card is working correctly, enough to be able to decide whether it's hardware or software at fault?
- If the hardware is proven to be OK, what am I then leaving out?
i'm running debian lenny - latest stable i have recently installed smartcam (mobile phone as webcam over bluetooth) from .deb package , get errors of unmet dependency , but application works like a charm, unfortunately broken dependences block my aptitude , i cant fix them either as latest stable use older versions of dependences even in backports... how do i mark smartcam package as not broken and release my apt?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running GNOME on Fedora 11. My daughter is shortly due to take possession of a digital SLR camera - a Canon EOS 400D. Apparently it comes with a USB cable. I know very little of photography, or of image stuff on Linux, so I have a few questions: Will I be able to connect it to my Linux box and import the images? Is gthumb-importer the appropriate application for this? Is there better? Are the images jpegs, or something else? I only need to copy the images to the laptop and to be able to view them - I don't need to edit them or any such.

I have flash player installed, but when i hit the button to create an album in facebook, it tells me i need to install flash. I use opera, but the problem also exists when i try firefox. However, i'm running ubuntu on my netbook, also with opera, and here it works just fine.

What is it that ubuntu has that allows me to do this? I'd like to know, so that I can install it on arch.

I've tried digiKam and KRename, however I can't figure out how to simply rename the files as such:
~/Pictures/[year]/[month]/[datetime].JPG
where the year, month, and datetime are when the picture was taken, via EXIF data. In digiKam, I can't figure out how to rename the files to move to a different dirrectory than their current one, and with KRename, I can't figure out how to only use the year for the directory instead of the entire datetime.
Does anybody have an idea why I can't upload photos to Facebook?Always when I try to do it, both in Firefox and in Opera the message "The connection has been reset" appears... What could be the reason? Could it also be a problem with my router or provider? Because I presume the problem exists, since I have moved flat.

Today I tried to upload some pictures on Facebook (like I use to) and after choosing them it gets stuck, the browser works, but the pictures don't get uploaded. I tried different browsers and the results were the same. My java package seems to be up-to-date as well as my browser (Chrome). I don't really know what is going wrong.

I an app on my Myspace Page and I am unable to view my dressing room in my super pets app. I get the same results from my super pets app as I do when I try to upload photos. Although the stuff is there, I get an empty box. View 5 Replies View RelatedI own Fedora Core 12 and an HP scanner. I want to make digital copies of all the pictures I took a few years ago. I have a lot so I tried scanning five at a time thinking I could cut and paste into smaller images like with MS Paint on Windows. HPLIP 3.9.12 wouldn't let me modify the scans so I tried GIMP 2.6.10. GIMP 2.6.10 is a nightmare! When I opened my scan of five pictures I had trouble opening a new image. Then I had to specify the size of the new image. The when I cut and pasted I couldn't rotate. Then when I figured out how to rotate my image was too small.
Then I tried scanning just one picture but HPLIP left a lot of blank space. I tried cropping out the blank space with GIMP but the image size was the same with the blank space. I don't want to post photos to Flickr that are mostly empty space.I wish I could show you examples but the forum won't let me post them.Any ideas or suggestions for a program for Fedora Core 12 that's got the functions and features of MS Paint?
