I have no problem with Firefox or thunderbird and open office. All my photos have been downloaded onto the new system no bother. I am now trying to download photos from C-D and most have done so very well but!!!I have had a problem with UDF.
I've got a lot of photos I've take over the years, and I suspect I've got lots and lots of duplicates, since I may have multiple backups for the same photos.
Have anyone experience with deduplication of photos in Ubuntu, and could recommend an approach for a quick and efficient way to do this?
I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and I am unable to upload photos into my Myspace Page. I an app on my Myspace Page and I am unable to view my dressing room in my super pets app. I get the same results from my super pets app as I do when I try to upload photos. Although the stuff is there, I get an empty box. What do I need to do to be able to open my photos from my space and actually see my pictures there and not an empty box?? or open my super pets app and see my stuff there and not an empty box ?
I have recently installed Puppy Linux because my Windows OS crashed and I could not find the license number and did not want to pay $180 for a new one.So far This OS looks good but quite different to Windows so I am having difficulty finding how to retrieve my photos and documents from the computer. I have been able to find the relevant files but I can't see how to copy or print them. I would like to put them onto CD and transfer them to my laptop which is running Windows 7.
Update: Experimented with "Hugin". It only distorted all photos according some "projection" and refused to merge them: enblend: excessive overlap detected; remove one of the images. Of course "excessive" - they're all almost in the same place. No averaging? /* and images are not actually aligned */.
Proceeding to experiments with enblend/panorama_tools/ale.
This is the equivilent of a DJ going into the"dusty records bin"to play an old song.I've got a hard drive that's left over from a Mandriva Spring 2008 computer and I need to copy the photos off it to a DVD and move them to a computer running Ubuntu.I can't seem to get the Ubuntu computer to access what's on the Mandriva drive, so I've loaded Mandriva Spring 2008 on another computer.
I've accessed the photos I need easily enough, but can't copy them to a storage medium so I can move them to the other computer. I've tried two USB devices, an external DVD drive and a flash drive and can't just copy (or drag 'n drop) the files to the other devices. This evening I may try a portable hard drive, again with a USB connection, and see if that works.
If there's a fool-proof way to do this by using a terminal, I'll try that. I haven't been able to devote enough time to Linux to familiarize myself with terminal commands. Or, if there's a program that will run under Mandriva Spring 2008 that will let me accomplish the transfer, I'll try that as well.
I'm not familiar with Linux and I do not understand technical wording at all. I was given this laptop as a favour and it is an ex-work Dell Latitude. I was given this to help me as a replacement when my Compaq working with Windows Vista stopped working. I do not understand the way Linux works much. I managed to upload photos before from my Ericsson K850i to my memory stick but this time when I tried it kept telling me that the path was invalid and such things which I did not understand. I created a folder for 2011 photos ready to go next year but the mouse pad is hard to control and even though I did nothing the 2010 folder went into the 2011. Sorry if I am not being very clear.
All I want to know is where did my whole years worth of digital photos go from my memory stick as I didn't delete anything. Would someone please help me understand all the different extensions or tell me what I need to do to try and retrieve them. I would be so grateful. I was nearly crying when it happened as when you right click in Linux there is no Undo/Redo button.
I have searched the board and I did see some other questions but I don't think they will help in this instance so I have started one. I hope I can get my photos back and also hope to hear from someone soon.
I am, as the forum title suggests, new to linux and to programming and having trouble figuring out how to do this.I have a very large XML file with a lot of information in it. I'm trying to get a single tag out of the file, each of these tags contains a single web link and I want to download the file at every single one of those links. I really don't know how to do this.My thought, though its probably not the most efficient or correct way, was to use VIM to search the document and somehow extract all of this one particular tag and then use wget on the links.
Have you had to download drivers for GNU/Linux and install them when some device didn't work? Except nVidia/ATi drivers I mean. Just like in Windows. Or the only driver you can download for GNU/Linux is a driver for videocard and all other are in always in the system?
There are some sites which allow you to listen the mp3 song like [url]
I have found the most simple way to get mp3 file
(1)Sometimes you get address ending with .mp3 so just copy the whole URI and use in terminal wget "PasteWhatYouCopied"
(2)But in the link I have mentioned there is no mp3 link in address bar.
Here I found out in totem-plugin-viewer(that is the thing that plays your file in browser).Just Click the button next to sound and select copy
In example taken above it is [url]
And use just like before wget "PasteWhatYouCopied" -O output.wma
Also notice that you have the song as output.wma in current folder of terminal.
(3)If there is a video on webpage then either wait for it to get completely downloaded & get it from /tmp.Remember don't close the page till video gets downloaded completely & you copied it from /tmp then only close that tab.
(4)There is a firefox addon 'unplug' which can help for flv because after sending file to download via unplug you can close that tab.
It downloading today's mail again and agin whenever I click on GetMail Button. Its very difficult for me to configure thunderbird again as it will take a lot of time in downloading the older mails.
I need to download the Kernel sources add a few lines and then recompile and install the new files. I found the following lines that are suppose to do it on nVidia's forums:
what the Kernel Module Source packages are called?... This guide I am trying to follow is obviously dated but it is the only solid lead I have been able to find towards making my ram work...This is the original thread on the NVNEWs boards: Unable to install Nvidia driver on 9500M + Ubuntu - Page 2 - nV News Forums,Read through that thread I linked to the NVidia forums for a detailed run down of what is wrong.
The semi short version: There is some sort of issue with the NVidia driver on the G1Sn (and several other Asus Models) and the way the Linux Kernel address memory, the issue results in not being able to use more than 2 Gigs of ram with the Nivida drivers. There is a patch (again check the nvidia forum link) that people said they had applied to fix this issue. At this point I am seriously considering Vista again if I can't get this working I love Ubuntu but I hate having my hardware limited by my software...where to download the files I need to recompile in the Kernel with the patch I need for my ram to work?
I tried posting there but it seems like the thread is long dead.. how I can download the needed files and maybe how I add these lines to it?I also started a thread on the ubuntu forums here: [ubuntu] Downloading Current Kernel Sources.
yesterday i downloaded source of my virtual linux kernel and tried to compile it. It compiled indeed but could not boot from the new kernel. Then today i decided to re-downloading after removing the folder where source files are located but it said "linux source is already the newest version"
I use the command below: sudo apt-get install linux-source What should i do to be able to re-download the source.
I need to download some very large files (circa 75 GB) from a remote server via SFTP. I've been using SFTP via the command line on my Linux netbook. Around halfway through, the transfer stops and says "stalled." Can anybody recommend a reliable way to download these files?
This was what I tried...wget -A rar [-r [-l 1]] <mediafireurl>
That is to say, I tried with and without the recursive option. It ends up downloading an HTML page of a few KB in size, while what I want is in the range 90-100 MB and RAR.
What happens with MediaFire for those who may not be aware, is that it first says
Processing Download Request...
This text after a second or so turns into the download link and reads

Using yum installs the binary version of the software. Is it possible to use yum to download the src rpms , because i have seen one repo called Fedora src. I am using Fedora 11.
Im currently running windows 7 and im looking for the best way to install fedora 13 and run a dual boot. i am open to other OSes as well mostly thinking of a tri boot with ubuntu but not really sure.
I am downloading the dvd installation version of fedora 13.
I have 110GB of unallocated space to put towards the project my main concern is how i should go about partitioning the space in the best way. (how much space for /boot and swap. what type of partitions should i use and so on)
Second concern would be to make sure i correctly configure grub(i have had trouble with grub recently) i just dont want to run into any issues after the installation.
How do I download all the files form here: [URL]. I am on freeBSD 7.0 and I tried wget with the -r switch and it gives me URL's only. Maybe this is simply not an ftp site I don't know. How I can download all those files with the same directory structure.
