Hardware :: DVD Writer Shows Up In K3b But CDs Are Not Being Read
Mar 10, 2011
I am trying to burn a CD or a DVD using K3b. K3b sees the writer but continues to ask for a blank disk no matter what disk I try DVD, CD-R etc.. I have tried as user and root with the same results.
In the Evolution message list, all messages are shown in bold whether read or unread. I know it's supposed to only show unread messages in bold, but it shows read messages in bold too, so you can't tell between them. The read/unread flag is set properly - you can tell by right-clicking on the message and seeing whether it offers to toggle it to read or unread. But the font remains bold no matter what.
I have this card reader, it works perfectly on Win7, but when i try to put my xD card in it whilst on Linux, it wont read it, nothing shows up in nautilus nor on the desktop. If it's any use, it's an external, with a USB cable.
I'm encountering a strange problem. I need to open and forward all UDP and TCP ports related to VoIPtelephony (5000:32000) in the Suse 11.1 server that's acting as router/firewall in our setup. The ports must redirect to a Asterisk server in the local network. (This server has the IP adress 192.168.0.3)I've opened ports in Yast (Firewall>Ports>Advanced) and putted in some masquerading rulesirewall>Masquerading):0/0,192.168.0.3,tcp,5000:31000,5000:310000/0,192.168.0.3,udp,5000:31000,5000:31000when I do a nmap localhost I get:Starting Nmap 4.75 at 2010-01-08 16:52 CETInteresting ports on localhost (127.0.0.1):

I was wondering if there is/are any software for ubuntu using which i can write ebooks? Or the only way is write it on the Word Processor and then export to PDF?
i'm italian so, please, be patient if my english isn't perfect I write here because no one of italian Fedora and Ubuntu forums could help me.I've a problem with my dvd writer. I think no linux distro can detect my Dvd Writer, because i tried with Fedora/Ubuntu/OpenSuse/Mandriva/Zenwalk and no one decect it. I must boot distros from liveusb because livecds don't start.
I have installed Ubuntu 10.4 on Dell Precision 4300 . I have two DVDs .One is player that works okay, but the system does not recognize the other one ,which is MSI DVD writer. Those are both ATA connected on same line . I have tried to switch positions ..but the MSI writer is always hidden. I can't see MSI on your hardware compatibility list. Is it not useable with Linux ?
Open two different instances of OpenOffice Writer (two separate entries on the task bar). In one of them type the word test and highlight it and leave it that way. Now using the mouse pointer try switching between these two different OpenOffice Writers on the task bar. There shouldn't be much of a switching delay if any, going either way.
Now go to the OpenOffice Writer with "test" highlighted. Hit the <ctrl>C (copy) key about five times rapidly, then immediately click the mouse on the other OpenOffice Writer on the task bar. I am seeing up to a 5 second dead time delay between switching. There is no "busy" indication from the mouse pointer. The mouse pointer moves, but any clicks will not take effect during the 5 second delay, then any mouse clicks quickly take effect in a cascade after the delay is over.
Sometimes Klipper looses the <ctrl>C (copy) "test" text (Klipper still displays it its history) and refuses to <ctrl>V (paste) "test" any longer. When Klipper reaches this state a single <ctrl>C (copy) of "test" will cause the up to 5 second delay when switching.
The delay is only noticeable if you immediately switch on the task bar. If I do the copies and simply wait at least 5 seconds before switching, there is no delay. So, the switching itself isn't the cause.
I have reproduced this on PCs in a 32 bit 11.2 install and a 64 bit 11.2 install. Both installs are KDE 4.3.3 release 3 repos. Either this long delay shouldn't be happening or the mouse should at least do its busy indication thing and not act like everything is normal when it isn't.
i think a bug exists in the default cd dvd writer for ubuntu. where would i report that?it asked whether id like to use the third iso standard because the file was larger than 2 gigs, and i did, and the checksum failed at the end, reporting an error and confusing me for a few minutes.
How do I find my dvd writer drive that I installed? It shows up that my hard drive recognizes that its hooked up on the black screen that comes up when first turn on computer. But when I go to my computer it just have the cd drive available. What do I do?
I have a Samsung SATA DVD writer which has several firmware updates available. I have a reason to believe the firmware it was shipped with is buggy. However, the only update i was able to find is a Windows executable. Out of curiosity I tried to run it under Wine and of course it is not able to access hardware. how to flash this drive without Windows?
I get this when I plug my BluRay writer into my Fedora 14 laptop. I am wondering how to write to it? I have 40G of company data that I want to write to it "As Data." How do I accomplish this?
How do I make it so that when I add lines to a page, it doesn't make the text on the next page move further down? I'm trying to make sure my sections will start on the same page as I typed them when a Windows user opens the Word document (which is what I will be exporting this as) in their Microsoft Office. I'm using OpenOffice.org 2.4.1 on Ubuntu 8.10.
After my last online system update, ubuntu 10.10.1 (pre-release) now crashes and the last thing written to the screen is "starting nbd client service" so I am trying to burn a copy of the new 10.10 final DVD on my Suse 11.2 install to try to recover or reinstall ubu.
With a stock install of suse 11.2/64 bit, k3b does a system config probe and finds 'no cd/dvd writer found'. My writer worked fine on the now-comatose ubuntu.
If I put in an ubuntu 10.10.1 cd, it finds it and mounts it:
Brasero just says that there is no available disk. When I insert the black cd, I see the popup telling me that there are 2 choices to handle the disk, one of them is k3b. Then k3b says that there are no cd/dvd writers found.
I read some fixes about adding me to the CDROM and DISK groups, but I don't have either.
Now, it won't eject either with the button or with the eject command:
It's an LG blu-ray burner. It is my primary boot device and I have used it to boot to and load many iso images.
Time for the old paperclip trick...
I would hate to have to load the same buggy beta system and have it crash again after the next update.
Now, my blu-ray drive is dead. I tried putting a blank dvd into my old burner and I get the same k3b error message.
I've updated to the backported kernel image, and lo and behold new problem: mount:special device /dev/cdrom1 does not exist
I've looked in fstab and indeed the writer is there and /dev/ only has my other 2 drives cdrom1 and cdrom. i can trace them back to sr0 and sr1 but, there is no sr2, or anything else to find out what my drive is called. what can i do to find out?
Edit: booting under the old kernel image see's them recognized as hda, hdc, hdd. image 2.6.26, the backport is 2.6.32
Sony DVD RW DRU-840A , wont read any dvd... undetectable by Fedora 12_64 default disk utility..Do i need to install a linux driver?no problem installing fedora using the dvd drive.system spec: asus extreme mother board, core 2 2.6ghz cpu, 8800GTS graphics card, X-fi sound card.
I don't often use a full word processor, but the Mrs has started to do some freelancing and needs one. I told her that that OO was every bit as good as Microsoft Word.... In OO virtually NONE of the menu options have hotkey combos.. Are they always user defined? F'rinstance, no hotkey for word count, or even option to put a button on toolbar? She is threatening to start booting to Windows!!!
I have been trying to make a HAL free openSUSE 11.3 build in suse studio for some time now. The problem is, I keep getting a K3B system configuration problem: No CD/DVD/BD writer found. I have been researching on the problem for almost a week and I can't seem to find a solution. I have also been reading about the packages that took over HAL's functionality. My system is mainly Gnome but I have included K3B as I consider it a superior solution to brasero.
Here is a brief overview of my system:Gnome 2.32 from Gnome Factory. KDE 4.6 from KDE Stable. K3B 2.0.2-8 from Packman. Udev, Udisk, Upower and Media-player-info as HAL replacements. Kernel 2.6.38 from Kernel Stable. Latest Xorg.
First Question: I'm I missing any packages that provide some form of HAL's functionality? How were SUSE engineers able to achieve a HAL free openSUSE 11.4?
When I excluded HAL from the selected software packages, I recieved no errors. I'm guesing it's because of the updated KDE.
Is there any Linux equivalent to Windows Live Writer? I've got the Wordpress for iPhone app on my iPod and Windows Live Writer on Windows. These programs are much easier for stuff such as adding images than the web interface. Is there a similar program for Linux that works with self-hosted Wordpress blogs?
The spell checker on my installation of open office 3.0 writer in Ubuntu 9.04 amd64 doesn't work. I have been through the options route, following the buit in help and set to english. That didn't work. I have been online, using the link from inside the program, and put a new version of the dictionary on my desktop and added it and that didn't work either. I have also reinstalled the whole thing via synaptic and that didn't work either. Using abword in the meantime but would rather have open office working again. In all three cases the gui seems to think all is well but when I check a page of garbage words am told that the check is complete. I can not use the enable tab as writer seems to think that the dictionary is present and enabled anyway. Does anyone know what may be wrong in my setup or have a fix for this?
Am having issues with compatibility b/w OO Writer and MS Word. I desperately need to use track changes, and would love to abandon MS Word altogether. However, using OO Writer, any tracked changes I make to MS Word documents do not translate well. In MS Word, the changes are there (I can view the initial document, and the final document), but there is no way to see the combination (i.e, a marked up copy).
Can anyone tell me whether this is normal, or whether it is just me? Once I get comments and tracked changes working perfectly, I should be able to switch completely. But until then, I must stick with MS for work.
I have the problem that whenever I write something it freezes up the window, my processor use rise to 100% and then it crash showing the OpenOffice.org crash-screen. This only happens in Writer and not Spreadsheets, Presentation refuses to start.
Info about the system: OpenOffice: OpenOffice.org 3.2.0 OOO320m12 (Build:9483)
[Code].....
Edit: Reinstalling the entire package and rebooting did not fix this issue.
