I have installed Linux Mint 7 and Windows XP on my laptop Sony Vaio VGN-CR260A. In Windows my external speakers, built-in speakers and headphones all work well. how to connect external speakers to work in Linux Mint. But the laptop's built-in speakers and my headphones don't work in Linux.

I have bought a laptop 2 months ago with pre installed windows7 and installed Ubuntu 10.04 64bit but still didnt get sound from the speakers. With headphones everything is OK . I have unmuted everything and searched forums but nothing so far. In windows I get speaker sound so it is not hardware problem. In alsamixer it appears I have 2 soundcards, one HDA -intel (chip Realtek ALC272) and a second one HDA nvidia ( a virtual one propably from my nvidia VGA ) that lacks controls . With lspci -v , it appears both use the same driver :Kernel driver in use: HDA IKernel modules: snd-hda-intel . Tried to disable the first one from bios but it didnt help I also tried sound adjustment in preferences -> sound and gnome-alsamixer, nothing.From gnome alsamixer, when I mute speakers, the headphones also get mute so may be the system doesnt recognize speakers and headphones separately? May be it has to do with config files but my linux knowledge is low.

I'm running 9.10 Karmic and using Blueman 1.2 with the latest bluez stack. I have a pair of Sony DR-BT100CX bluetooth headphones. I've got them paired and working with my system. When I turn them on I can click on the blueman icon and then select the DR-BT100CX device and then choose to connect the Audio Sink. As soon as I do this my Pulseaudio is redirected and all system output is driven through the headphones. This is great!
My only issue is that I have to select the device (I don't have to re-pair it) when I turn it on. On my Windows system when I turn on the headphones the bluetooth detects them and connects and then audio routes through the headphones. I don't have to click on anything.
Does anybody know how to remove the need to click on the device and add the sync. When I turn my bluetooth mouse on the system picks it up and starts using it, so I know this is possible. I just can't find a simple way to make this happen with the headphones.
when my headphones are plugged into my computer, the sound comes from both the speakers AND the headphones. I just want the sound from the headphones if they are plugged in.

When I plug in the headphones into the headphone jack, the sound plays through the headphones but it also plays through the speakers as well at the same time. in fedora 10 things were pretty simpler . all i had to do was double click the volume icon and i could change the volume of each of my speakers individually ...
in fedora 11 that was not possible , this adjustment of volume had become more complicated, however there was this "advanced volume control" or something ... i dont quite remember its name , but thanks to that i could still adjust volume of each of my speakers individually ...
in fedora 12 i m not able to find that application - "advanced volume control" ... how do i adjust the volume of my each of my 5.1 speakers in fedora 12 ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI thought the message received sound was too quiet in Empathy 2.32.0.1 and figured out that it was playing the file located here:[URL]...I replaced this file with a more suitable sound file but I have since noticed that the sound is only playing through my right speaker. I don't know if this was happening from the start or if I caused it by changing the sound file.
Playing the sound file manually proves there's no issue with the file as it plays correctly, through both speakers. I have no other sound issues.
I have a HP Compaq dc5750 desktop pc, which has a internal speaker for audio playback. My problem is that I can only get audio from this speaker, when I plug something into the rear jack stick, the sound still comes out of the internal speaker. I have tried to install alsamixer and unmuted AUX and Line IN, and increased volume to 100%. Sound is working, but only on internal speaker!.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis may seem like a stupid question (if not completely ridiculous ), but I was wondering if there's a way to configure audio events so that I can use a wav/ogg sound instead of the PC speaker's default beep for small events like hitting backspace in a text editor when it's the beginning of the document (or any other illegal keyboard action), or in Wine applications when it calls for an "asterisk" sound (it just beeps the PC speaker).
I've looked at similar threads, but they mainly just talk about either the beeps that the machine does when it boots up, or simply turning off the beeping completely. What I want to do is substitute the beeps (that are caused by the OS) for an actual sound that's played through the ALSA/OSS/whatever audio device.

I am a happy user of Slackware 13, but there is an annoying problem with ALSA (or anything else??) on my system.Sometimes (rather often) only one speaker of my system plays music.I use plain Slackware 13, without /etc/asound.conf and ~/.asoundrc-- ALSA restart /etc/rc.d/rc.alsa doesn`t help-- muting/unmuting the mixer doesn`t help-- Rebooting the PC helps - most of the times1. )My Card is

linux kernel 2.6, Sklackware 12.0. I have the suspicion that the internal pc speaker does not work. Is there a linux application to beep the speaker? Or perhaps somebody could send me a small script to make it beep.

After all that the problem continues the same. I`ve read that the alsa-driver comes with the kernel, so I have to install a knew one to get the last alsa-driver? Or just install like I did works?
I have a netbook running squeeze + lxde. Every time I boot, I have to open alsamixer and turn on my speaker channel. Master and PCM are both enabled and at 100%, as is everything relating to the mic. Speaker just refuses to work with me though.

my usb speaker has volume control-up/down, mute, that seems to work, just no sound coming out of it. I am running Squeeze 6.01, kernel 2.6.32-5-686 Also I have 2 computers with squeeze 6.01 installed, both doesnt output usb sound, but the speaker works fine with winXp and ubuntu.
F12 completely patched. Can someone provide some insight into the various volume controls available and why they seem to conflict with each other? The incognito application that loads up on the task bar as a speaker icon keeps getting changed. I try to nail it at 100% but it keeps getting altered - how I don't know. BTW - I say its an incognito application as there is no way to identify what piece of software it actually represents. I assume it's the gnome-volume-control-applet, but there is no way to know for sure as it is devoid of any identification. I run rhythmbox and its volume control also gets altered from where I attempt to set it.
I assume that gnome-volume-control-applet is the master to set a limit on what anything else can do. I then assume that rhythmbos's volume control operates within the envelope that gnome-volume-control-applet allows. Both assumptions are probably wrong as nothing makes any sense. Maybe all the pulseaudio stuff is also in there somewhere messing with the controls, but I see no user space apps to influence pulseaudio. To top it off, I can push the volume control on rhythmbox around from 100% down to 16% and there is no discernible change in volume. When I hit 14% there is a halving of volume, and from there on down to 0% seems to function linearly as expected. Why is there this non responsive range between 16% and 100%?
Running FC12 on Dell optiplex 745, Intel's 82801H and using Pulse (did not change anything from fresh install).
Sound works great, but for some reason, I can not disable the internal speaker that sits on the motherboard. meaning, if I play something it comes out from the audio output in the back (its going to amplifier) and also from the friggin internal speaker, a bit annoying...
I've been installing all kind of pulse management tools, can't find how to disable this.
didn't find anything in the board's BIOS.
I don't see pcskpr loaded (I guess its not used anymore).
