I just installed ubuntu 9.04 and i cant get my pci card to work. its a linksys and i have the drivers and installed them with ndiswrapper. I don't have an ethernet cord that runs to my computer. When i tried the wlan0 up i believe it said that there is no directory. Then i was reading a lot of forms and tried the iwconfig and i got the essid put in and i don't know how to get the encryption key in. i made the alist for the driver and when i tried the wlan0 up it said there was no directory and then i tried to do a scan anyway and it the said the network was down.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Server. I can't get my Wireless Card & Wired Card to work at the same time. My interfaces file is incorrect, when I comment out 1 of the interfaces the other works. I have attached my interfaces file.
I installed openSUSE 11.2 several days ago. Everything works fine so far, but my tv-card isn't willing too show me something. I've already searched the web for 2-3 days, but i could not find a solution.
kdetv says that it has "no device found", xawtv works in rare chases but crashes completely when i try to maximize it. tvtime says "Driver refuses to start streaming", in the next line "Driver refuses to stop streaming" and sometimes something about wrong number of frames from bttv.
The TV-card is a Terratec Terra TValue, it is still working fine under WinXP and did work under openSUSE 11.0. YaST-config is done, Nvidia drivers are installed, as well as v4l.
Some things that might help:
xawtv

has anyone tried to get the telus usb air card to work with ubuntu 9.10. have a friend that i am going to try live cd first to see if every thing works. he has a usb telus air card, will ubuntu just pick it up or is there a special way to config this one
I have a laptop with ubuntu installed. But I cant get the wlan to work. When I had vista on it I had to use a combination on the keyboard to "activate" the wlan. ( FN - F1 ). But on ubuntu this wont work. Ubuntu don't recognize this function because it was made especially for my computer. In the trobleshooting guide of wlan point 5.2.1 it says that I have to activate the card from windows. But I dont have windows on the computer anymore, even if I had it would just disconnect when booting to linux. How can I activate my wlan card without windows, or the Function keys? (ubuntu have the driver) it only says that its "Disabled".
I loaded ubuntu onto hard drive and like it well except can't get sound card to work, have deleted all previous on hard drive incl. Card driver that worked on windows. Only detail on cerd is "Creative labs, Mod CT4740 Trade name FC Ser. No. M4740910001586".
I decided to start of with Debian. I'm having trouble getting my wireless connection to work. I think i need drivers or something, i can't make a wireless connection. And it is a bit difficult for me, as i am new to Linux, and I'm not sure what I'm doing when i am writing these commands.
My wireless card is a Broadcom Corporation BCM43142 802.11b/g/n
I have been using Raspberry PI a little, so i am familiar with the terminal.
Im running Pure:Dyne, an audio-centric distro, and so far I have not been able to get my usb modem to work. Im using a Huawei EC168 and my carrier is Alltel. Im totally new to Debian as well... Im doing this off of a live disc then I plan to install it once I know Ill be able to use my internet (its my only internet...) The card doesnt seem to be recognized other than as a storage drive or something, since its preloaded with the software for windows that comes with it.
I'm having trouble getting my wireless card (RNX-G300LX, from Rosewill) working with my Debian install. I had it working at one point in time, but (apparently) something has gone wrong, as it no longer connects. The network I'm trying to connect to uses WPA2. When I try to start up my wireless card as follows: # ifup wlan0
I get the following response: wmaster0: unknown hardware address type 801 wmaster0: unkown hardware address type 801 Listening on LPF/wlan0/00:1a:... Sending on LPF/wlan0/00:1a:... Sending on Socket/fallback

I have set up /etc/network/interfaces as follows: auto lo iface lo inet loopback iface wlan0 inet dhcp wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf auto wlan0 and /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf looks like this: ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant ctrl_interface_group=0 ap_scan=1 fast_reauth=1 network={ ssid="apt_102" scan_ssid=1 key_mgmt=WPA-PSK psk="mypassword" proto=WPA2 }
I should also note that running wpa_cli -i wlan0 tells me that it is "trying to associate" with my router, but authentication times out each time.
I have a Thinkpad X220 (stretch/sid) with a built-in SD card reader. But when I plug in an SD card it won't show up in the file manager (thunar), nor as a /dev/sd* or /dev/mm*.. URL...
Code: Select all$ udisksctl status
Just my internal SSD shows up.How do I get my SD card reader to work?
This TV tuner PCI card does not work with my linux. I tried it in a windows box and it worked great. I tried it with MythDora and found it non functional. Hauppage says that it should work with linux. VLC plays the out put of the tuner card just fine but cannot change channels.

i'm new to linux, and recently installed fedora 14 on an old hp pavillion dv2700. it originally had vista home premium, but the hard drive crashed and had to be replaced with a new one, which had no os on it. i installed fedora several days ago, and everything worked perfectly until a day ago when suddenly the wireless card wouldn't turn on anymore.
my sister was using the computer (just videos) and a few seconds after she handed it back to me, the wireless light turned from blue to amber, and it said wireless was diabled, even though i hadn't touched the switch. before the computer crashed, it had a problem of the light always being amber when it woke up from standby, but flipping the switch off and back on would fix it. now no amount of wiggling and flipping seems to do the trick.
I could use some instructions on how to get firefox to read and use my cac card. Under Yast the card reader shows up in hardware. I have install pcsc ccid and coolkey through Yast but not sure if I need to do anything else. I have followed instructions for loading the device in firefox but it does not load my certs off of the card.
I have been messing around with ubuntu for a few hours now trying to get my wireless driver to work, but I am having no luck. It seems like I installed the driver right, and network-admin use to show the wireless, but I couldn't unlock it to mess with properties. Now it doesn't even show wireless, and I still can't unlock it, so I'm unable to get my wireless card to work.
My onboard lan card was cutting out during samba file transfers so I put in a PCI lan card and disabled the integrated one. Now I'm having trouble getting it to work. I appologize in advance, I'm completely ignorant as to how to change net cards in Ubuntu and am quite new to Linux in general.I'd copy and paste my lspci, but I can't connect to that computer nor the internet with it now.
My multimedia card reader does not work with new ubuntu version fresh install: lsusb says: Code: Bus 001 Device 002: alcor micro corp. multimedia card reader dmesg:

I have a Dell inspiron E1705 that I recently installed 10.04 LTS on. The wireless card i'm using is a Belkin express card that worked perfectly fine with 9.1 but won't work with 10.04. lspci -v output shows the card as installed with a driver listed but under capabilities is says "access denied".
I am trying to get mythtv to work with my tv card. I am using ubuntu 10.04 and I have installed mythtv but it isn't picking up my tv tuner card. I have a Hauppauge wintv hvr 1250. I am wondering what I need to do to get it to work?
My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6 3078-tx. It is was a great laptop when it was running windows 7 but when I tried installing Ubuntu, I slowly began to hate it more and more. The issue is with the ATI and Intel switchable graphics card. Ubuntu installs fine and things seem to be great but I cant use the better graphics effects in ubuntu. I installed the driver that ubuntu provides for ATI and it didnt work and ubuntu booted into a terminal etc.. and I had to put it back to the way it was before. After sometime researching on the internet I know the problem is with the swtichable graphics.
Unfortunatley there is no option to turn off switchable graphic in my bios and hp arent much of a help. I dont know what to do now ? Is there any way to get switchable graphics to w ork with linux, is there way to get version of the bios that lets me disable it ? any variations of ubuntu or linux that it works with. I would prefer to use the ATI if i have to disable one or the other cause Im usually running on ac power anyways.
I've just loaded ubuntu to give my old laptop a new leece of life. Everything is fine expect that I can't get the wireless card to work. It just doesn't seem to be exist on my computer anymore. The computer has a button to turn wireless on and off, which worked when it was a windows system, but doesn't seem to do anything anymore. I'm an absolute ubuntu beginner.
I am trying to fix someone's computer, and the wireless card will not work! Two proprietary drivers show up on the "Additional Drivers" program, but every time I go to download and install them, I get an error message right before it finishes, and I still cannot use the card. I am using Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop
I can't seem to get my card reader to work. The USB port on the reader works and sometimes I can read my SD card. Usually, nothing shows up in the media/ folder. I looked at this write-up [URL]... but I'm not sure if this is what I should do. Here are some info I was able to pull up:
I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 32 bits version on a desktop PC. Every thing works OK, exept for a USB hub and card-reader combination from IN-WIN Inc. I could not find a clue on the Internet. The manufacturer and apparatus code is: ID 10df:0500 (as from "lsusb").
Below I have listed all the hardwire of the PC, as obtained from "lshw". The italic part at the bottom deals with the IN-WIN module. I suspect that it may have to do something with the "emulated scsi-host" thing, of which I just know nothing about.
Tell me how to configure my Ethernet card to work. My pc only works wirelessly. I don't know what kind of Ethernet card is installed. I have Ubuntu 10.4 on a dell pc 1ghz, 20ghd, 512mb.
I am almost tempted to go back to an old slackware to try this. Anyway, I found a circuit (with just a few resistors) that allows vga output to go to composite input. To my amazement it actually works and it is very clear, but has a double screen. I am told, to fix it you need to change the horizontal sync and or refresh rate for the card. (17 instead of 35). How would I do this in xorg.conf?
