Debian :: Forward All Root Mail To External E-mail Account?
Jun 28, 2010The question is pretty much the same as the subject. I have a bunch of debian servers - most of them running exim4 default installations configured as internet site using dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config. It can send mails fine from php scripts and some other applications, but I can't seem to find a way to forward all root mail to some external address. I have tried adding "root: someaddress@example.com" to /etc/aliases and run newaliases command, but it doesn't seem to work.

General :: Setup A Ssh Account With No Terminal But Port Forwarding?
Jan 29, 2011I am trying to set up a new user account I can give to friends so they can SSH into my forward computer, and only allow forwarding of certain ports.
I do not want my friends to have a shell, or be able to change what ports to where they are allowed to forward.
example session: joe(friend) connects using PuTTY (that I have pre-set, he isn't good with computers) to example.com(my Internet facing computer) forwarding ports 8080,1990,25565 to him(with what ever end ports he wants, preferably they stay the same numbers) example ssh command to do similar (but he can still change the ports on my computer!)
ssh -N restricteduser@example.com -p443 -L8080:192.168.1.2:8080 -L1990:127.0.0.1:1990 -L25565:127.0.0.1:25565
is it possible to also leave default SSH functinality for all other users but this one?
I found this when I was searching google, but alas, I did not quite understand what was being suggested, and I don't think they covered restricting port forwarding

I still can't find a spot for password. options are, login, set preferences and a remember password checkbox but nowhere to enter a password

Feb 1, 2010I was working recently on a perl program on our ftp server (box is running SuSE, I belive v9.3) designed to email a warning if the mountpoint to our backup machine could not be mounted. A couple of other programs, month-end critical, took me away from that for a while. I got back to it today, only to discover that I cannot even send the messages anymore (before, I could send, but I was having trouble interpreting the results I was sending).
The program is using MIME::Lite for its mailsending function. The actual error message I am receiving is

The line in question is the actual $msg->send command.
I have good reason to believe that the environment for this has changed; during the time I was working on other projects, our office phone setup was replaced and refined with an ethernet-connected setup installed by the company that provides our mailing services (and presumably network services in general, although I do not know this for a fact). I know that we were having email troubles with some of our month-end scripts after that, which required our main server's DNS values to be changed...but those errors were not the same as the one I am getting on this machine.
Is this simply going to be as easy as changing the DNS settings on our FTP box, and if not, where is the best place to start digging for more information?

Jun 16, 2011I have been using evolution for my email for about a year.It currently has 2 accounts set up.I want to create a third account so I went to Edit > Preferences > Accounts > Add.On the first page I click on "forward" and on the second page enter the new details. New name, new email address and when I'm finished I click on forward again and the second screen comes up. It has some server details on it iirc. Sadly after 2 seconds or so this screen disappears and the very first screen re-appears (where the only thing to click on is "forward").What's happening? Is 2 accounts the maximum? Any clues please?

For example - if I am using kmail for the account me@email.net and I have something from an irc chat or IM I need to keep for future reference (instructions for something, contact info for someone, etc.) I open a new blank email in kmail, address it to myself, copy in the info and hit send, but the message never arrives. I have previously used this method with Thunderbird and Evolution and it works in both of them just fine but does not ever work in kmail.

Forwarding all of them as attachment doesn't, because many of the emails themselves have attachment and it gives an error saying attachment type not supported.
If I try forwarding inline or quoted I have to forward them one by one and there are around 4000.

Nov 9, 2010I want to change the polling order of my two email accounts, but I can't figure it out. I have two IMAP accounts in Claws-Mail, one for work and one for 'other'. The work account is set as default. It is uppermost in the left pane. It is marked 'MH', which I think is to do with storage of the downloaded emails. Claws-Mail always polls my 'other' account first. This takes ages and prevents me getting my work email. How can I make sure the work account is polled first?

Mar 4, 2011I'm trying to configure postfix so smart daemon can send out notifications emails. My system will need to send emails to a mail server that is on the same local network. I have not had much luck in getting this to work, and am confused on what I need to setup to do this and how to set it up. Does my system need to be apart of the same domain as the mail server? If so, how do I do this? Is there any restrictions sending emails from the command line as the root user? Do I need to configure a relayhost?
Basically all I need to do is send emails to a local mail server, i.e. a mail server on the same local network. I do not need to receive emails. I am rather clueless as to how to set this all up, and what I need for this basic email functionality. I have read and tried many postfix configuration tutorials, but when I try to send out a test email to a email address on the local network mail server I always get "Connection refused" to the server and deferred or bounced status on my test email.

Nov 3, 2010I have one Centos Server and I want to forward root mail to 1 external account: [URL] I installed sendmail and created /root/.forward with this content: [URL] and I sent a test mail with this command: /usr/sbin/sendmail root <prueba.txt But nothing was forwarded.
After that I ran the same command with the verbose option:
/usr/sbin/sendmail -v root <prueba.txt
And this is the output:

For some reason sendmail tried to connect to example.com smtp server and couldn't reach it. I am sure this is because the smtp server for example.com domain is not example.com is mail.example.com. Besides mail.example.com requires authentication, username , password and the smtp port is not the default 25 is 9999. configure sendmail to forward root mail to a smtp server that requires authentication, username, password with a not the default 25 port?

Mar 30, 2010Whilst playing around with my computer the other day i accidentally set the workspace feature to have 36 workspaces. This subsequently caused my computer to run very slowly and both panels and the bar at the top of the windows (with the close and minimise things) to dissapear. This means that i can no longer open programs easily (i have to open a folder from the desktop and then navigate to filesystem/usr/shared/aplications and then open them from there and only a few have full functionality. They also run very slowly. I have been looking for options to change it back but cannot. I have managed to use terminal to create a new working account although it is not an administrator account which i need it to be.
How to do one of the following:
A) Fix the first account (restore it to working order)
B) Make the new account an administrator in terminal (I have tried to using users and groups but it freezes)
C) Create a new administrator account in terminal
