General :: Turn On SHMConfig And Get Touch-pad Driver Running?
Feb 2, 2011
I've installed Debian Lenny ("stable") on my Dell Inspiron 640m laptop, with Win7 in another partition and data in a third VFAT partition. I want to tame the ####ing Synaptics touchpad.
So I installed xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, which has put syndaemon in /usr/bin. I understand that this app disables the touch-pad while typing, just what I want.
But syndaemon doesn't run at bootup, and when I try to run it manually I get:
<syndaemon> returns error "Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?"
<man syndaemon> warns "needs SHMConfig "on" in your XOrg/XFree86 Synaptics Touchpad configuration"
I have a 3rd party driver that is trying to install a touch screen driver, it is looking in /etc/X11 for xorg.conf and it isnt there. The Ubuntu docs pointed me at a diff folder which also didn't contain xorg.conf. c is it located? I will just sym link it during install them remove the link once its done. EDIT: Should probably mention that I'm running ubuntu 10.10 (Which was upgraded from 10.04). And I'm running Desktop Edition
I have Ubuntu 9.04, and a HP laserjet 1018 printer.
I install the printer using:
And when it ask me about plugin I give the path to it. (the 3.9.2 version of the plugin, because Ubuntu 9.04 has the 3.9.2 version of hplip)
well I install the printer, everything works perfectly.....but, when I turn off the PC, and turn it on again, the printer does NOT work!, I send work for being printed but mothing happens , Ubuntu tells me that the job was printed but ... no case, my printer does not print it.
I have to install it again since cero. what can I don to stop install it every time I turn off the computer ?
I was messing around with the synaptics file in /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d, the last change I made was adding Option "SHMConfig" "true". But now I can't boot past the purple screen with the white/yellow dots?
Well this is simple. I just finished installing chromium on my computer. However SElinux is blocking it. I want to allot chromium to run, but I do not know how to turn SE off.
Installed 11.04 after a Series of Harddrive Problems. HD was Cleared so No XP installed, running ubuntu Only. Compaq Presario C500 - Broadcom 4312 Wireless.
Setting up CentOS 5.5 on my laptop. After installing the synaptics driver, I am able to get a functioning X session without any problems (I'm using startx for testing). There are however two problems: 0/ mouse cursor is slow as snails and 1/ GNOME is fouled up.
- I've tried enabling SHMConfig in my xorg.conf file, and have also tried the HAL thing here. Either way synclient tells me to jump in a lack. I should be able to set suitable adjustments in xorg.conf, but running synclient -l to see what it's currently using would be much faster than hours of trial end error. As Google totally fails to provide anything helpful and I see nothing handy in documentation beyond the 1-line edit to xorg.conf I've already done, how in the universe do I actually enable SHMConfig to synclient's satisfaction? EDIT: scrolling doesn't work either, so access to synclient is even more important; on the upside I have manually tuned the mouse speed by T&E.
- GNOME was installed through the "GNOME Desktop Environment" and "GNOME Software Development" groups (yum groupinstall GNOME*) after net' installing CentOS. It has been startx'd through gnome-session. On startup I get a string of Windows: one is a dialog saying that there was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon with a last error message of "Failed to execute dbus-launch to autolaunch D-Bus session". The other two are dialog windows gripe about mail notification. Several icons are missing but gnome otherwise works fine, as long as I do nothing that requires SETTINGS. Searching the web and documentation hasn't helped here either, so how the flub do I fix that?
I expect to be using blackbox or something lighter most of the time, but as GNOME is the default.... it better be working!
I have installed xubuntu 10.04 on a HP Pavilion dv1049ea and am having trouble installing the drivers for the graphics card. When installing i had to use the boot option -xforcevesa in order to get the screen working. Now that it is installed there is constant screen flicker but apart from that all other aspects of the system are working fine. In the display menu i am unable to change the refresh rate. How do i change the running driver from vesa to the correct intel driver? The graphics card is an Intel Graphics 82852/82855.
I want to install tomcat so i followed the steps mentioned in below link: [URL] After going through the steps i checked for
Code:
./startup.sh
but it showed me the error
Code:
touch: cannot touch `/usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/logs/catalina.out': No such file or directory /usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/bin/catalina.sh: line 372: /usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/logs/catalina.out: No such file or directory
when i went through my "/usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/" there was no "logs" folder so i tried
Code:
find / -name catalina.out
but it returned nothing.BTW i have installed "apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src", "java-1.6.0". Please if any one could look into the problem and provide me the solution to error mentioned above and why there is no "logs" directory in "/usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/".
I have an LM Technologies 54Mbps wifi usb adapter. This is because my wireless section on my motherboard does not work. The drivers on the installation disk do not automatically install for linux. Looking at the manual I have to build the device driver. On the page is computer programing formulie that looks like a foreign language. I do not know computer programing. At the bottom of the page it says:-
Install individual driver If you only need driver of ZD1211 or ZD1211B you can issue: make clean make ZD1211REV_B=0(0 for ZD1211,1 for ZD1211b) make ZD1211REV_B=0 install(o for ZD1211,1 for ZD1211B to install the driver.
Then it says:- Build the debugging tool. There are two debugging tools in this package,"apdbg" and "menudbg". Run"make debug" to complete them both. If you do not have ncurse library, you may get some error messages while compiling meudbg. you can ignore it and get apdbg only. It goes on and on about network interface, configure wireless settings.
I would like to use as much FOSS as possible, particularly with touch screen computers. Is it possible to run Ubuntu with touch and/or multi touch capabilities? If so, will an HP Touch Smart computer run Ubuntu? I would very much like to purchase said machine via Linux Foundation discounts if this is the case.
I don't understand what more i can do, the bellow is what i have done. is there a conspiracy against me??? (ive been through 3 distros and spent the better part of 2 months , i mean literally, all day every day, trying to get one distro to actually function at reasonabe capacity and each one is full of its own problems ) now:
This is the input device section of my old xorg.conf:
I'm currently running 10.04, when I went to go turn on visual effects it gave me a prompt to install an nVidia driver, after installation was complete it said I had to restart. When I start it up the screen flickers from being on and off, it then finally stops at being on but nothing shows up. Please help. My graphics card is nVidia G210M. Sony Vaio.
I occurred a really weired problem, which is touch : command not found.I was going to create a blank file, so I type the touch command which didn't work.I'm running centOS 5.
For instance, the one thing I hated more than anything, was the touch-pad on here, and I mean whenever you touched it it counted as a mouse click. I always hated it and in Windows I found a way to disable it with disabling the entire mouse pad, how do I do the same in Ubuntu? In every other distribution I didn't have to worry about it, but I suppose that I'm using the proprietary drivers or something.
Anyway, TL;DR: How do I disable a touch pad feature
I am curious if indeed I will be able to use the iPod touch 4th gen with LMDE as I really do not wish to revert to windoze just for this ...I recently removed EVERY M$ OS from our house But now I am getting an iPod touch and I have searched google for an answer to no avail please help in simple terms as well Thank you in advance.BTW I have only been using Linux for about 8 months and computers for about 4 years altogether.
I have checked and as of right now can not find any topic on my problem. I purchased and installed a usb touch screen for my EEE PC 900 4GB hard drive. My problem is that my computer will not recognize the screen. When I go into the Systems Test, The USB touch is recognized, but that is it. Do I have to download drivers? (Even for a usb?) I went into the bios, and enabled the web-cam, which I have used for power. (I think) If any one can offer me some advice, I will be forever grateful. I would love to have this up and running for my husbands birthday, which is in 2 weeks. Could the problem be with the size of the hard drive? I am 98% sure I have it installed correctly. I have followed the instructions that were supplied.
Wasn't sure were to put this go here goes. When I plug in my Canon Powershot Digikam starts up, which is great. But... when I plug in my iPod Touch to recharge Digikam also starts up, how can I put a stop to the latter?
I have currently installed Linux Mint 10 Gnome 32-bit edition and I have a iPod Touch 2nd gen with 32GB.I was able to see the music(mp3 files) in my iPod touch in linux mint 8 and 9. But currently I have the following issues:When I connect my iPod Touch with the system I got two popup asking me You have just inserted digital audio player.ose what applications to launch"ou have just inserted a medium with digital photos. Choose what applications to launch"I know that these are popups are normal. I currently dnot have any photos or videos in my iPod Touch(will try to add them in the future) so I used Rhythmbox to open the music present in my iPod touch. I'm able to find my iPod under "Devices" in Rhythmbox. But when I click it, Rhythmbox shows that there are no music present in my iPod Touch by showing "0 artist" and "0 Albums".
However I know for sure that there are definitely songs in my iPod since I'm able to browse and play songs directly from my iPod. Is there any way to resolve this? I have also tried opening it in banshee but with the same result.I tried to drag and drop songs present in my library of rhythmbox to my iPod and this does not do any thing. Previously in LM 8 or 9, when I do drag and drop I will be able to see my new songs in my iPod.
I installed the Nvidia driver. When I click on the "Monitors" package it then asks if I want to use my graphics drivers vendor's tool. I say yes and then it pops up the Nvidia X Server Settings dialog. In that menu it indicates I need to run nvidia-xconfig from root. I did this and then restarted the xserver but to no avail I get the same message every time I try to run "Monitors", that I need to run nvidia-xconfig.
After watching the absolutely amazing 10/GUI video, I have been dying to try to implement something like this. I can do the software side quite easily, but I don't have the hardware. The Wacom Bamboo Fun would work, but the Linux drivers don't support the multi-touch features. Microsoft's "UnMouse Pad" looks like the perfect solution, but it is not commercially available yet.
Are there any similar devices that would work? Alternatively, is there a way to build a DIY version? (It is fairly easy to build a multi-touch display with a webcam and IR LEDs, but it would not be pressure sensitive. Does anyone have any info on how the UnMouse Pad works and if it is possible to build one?). I should clarify that I don't want a multi-touch display. I want the sensor to be separate from the display. If that sounds crazy, watch the 10/GUI video.
I'm trying to get a touch screen working with Ubuntu 10.04LTS (32bit) //changed to 32 bit -it is a serial touchsceen, connected at /dev/ttyS0 ,i know that works because I get garbage in the terminal when I enable it. -before the screen used a 3m driver (I believe) in XP.
My knowledge of Linux is passive so I generally pick up something when I need it. To get this working I came accross a lot of tutorials (a lot outdated a bit), I'm still at a loss to get this work.
I'm not sure where to put linux drivers (/usr/ or /dev/?) most tutorials kind of skip over that part. I have tried editing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf unsuccessfully. I'm not sure what the syntax for that is supposed to be.
When I connect an iPod Touch to Linux, it is automatically mounted and recognized. Rhythmbox is able to play music on it. However, I cannot find where in the filesystem it is mounted. I looked in /media and /mnt but it's not there. Where is it?
Bought an Ipod Touch 4th Gen today, and I can't get Ubuntu 10.04 to talk to it in a meaningful way. So far I've tried dling Mediamonkey and running it on Wine - no good. I successfully installed the latest itunes and can run it with Wine, but the ipod doesn't show up on the devices menu on the left. I can see an Ipod touch icon on my desktop and in nautilus, and I can drag files into the ipod via nautilus, but they don't show up on the ipod's music menu. There's an option to open the ipod w/ Rhythmbox, but when I do, it isn't there (in rhythmbox). I'd rather not resort to jailbreaking. I guess I wouldn't mind using virtualbox, but I don't have a copy of XP handy. Mediachest looks like garbage to me, and I don't know how to work it.
When i want to configure my touchpad on my dell inspiron 1525 with debian lenny then i got this message: gsynaptics couldnt initialize you have to set 'shmconfig' 'true' in xorg.conf or xf86config to use gsynaptics My touchpad is an alps and not a synaptics so far i can see. My xorg.conf is this: [URL]
I've been trying to figure out the cause of system hangs with slack 13 for a a week or so. I get random total freezes with the keyboard LED's blinking at me and the only solution is to do a hard-reset. I was using a self-compiled 2.6.31.6 kernel on 32bit Slack with similar results, but thought it had more to do with several bad starts as I got used to Slack's way of doing things... eventually I decided I'd made enough bad starts with that installation and after reading a bit about _current fixing some stability issues added another installation to my machine using Slackware64 and upgrading to _current. It worked great, then I installed the NVIDIA proprietary driver. The system hangs are back.
Sometimes they happen quickly, sometimes they take hours, sometimes while I'm working, sometimes when the machine has been idle for hours. For a couple of days I've been going back and forth between the NVIDIA propreitary and the nv driver. I've run memtest86 for 4.5 hours and not a single error, I'm running this on a new HD, I even upgraded the case fan (the old one was starting to complain!).
I've also installed different versions of the driver 185.x.x, 190.42.x. I've used slackbuilds, I've used "sh NVIDA.xxx.RUN" I've said "yes" to everything the installer asked, I've said "no".
So far no hangs with the nv driver. I've been leaving one or the other running at all times and no hangs with the nv driver, but within hours with the proprietary driver.
All that is to say I'm confident the issue is with the NVIDIA proprietary driver, OR something in my kernel options that only shows up when I'm using the NVIDIA driver.
Is anyone else running this successfully?
SLACKWARE64 kernel 2.6.32 (same behavior on 32bit with 2.6.31.6) compiled kernel with "make oldconfig" then "make localmodconfig" BEFORE the NVIDIA driver was installed. ext3 filesystem (same behavior with ext4 on previous installation)
I have tried all the methods that are out there but nothing works. Under Fedora 12, it is seen by VBox
[code]...
Running ITunes under Vbox sees the IPOD but I can't do anything, it will not copy music over, matter of fact I can't build any libraries in ITunes. I've installed "iFuse" on both my Fedora and Ubuntu systems, no go with that direction. Under Ubuntu it is seen but I can't do anything with it.
After starting the Nvidia driver installer I get the error message "please exit x before installing". I read the manual page for X. From the console I typed X -terminate. I get the error message "Fatal server error" "Server is already active for display 0". how to exit from X.
