Ubuntu :: Banshee / All IPod 5G-music Is Displayed Under Video Folder / Music Folder Is Empty

Mar 20, 2011

At the moment I use Rhythmbox to acces my music and my iPod 5G. I would however like to use Banshee, but in Banshee all my iPod 5G-music is displayed under the video folder, while the music folder is empty. Any idea why?And also I have several albums with different artists on them, which gets spread out on i.e. 10 single albums even though they belong to the same album. This happens - as far as I can tell - after I've accessed the iPod from Rhythmbox (which is part of the reason why I wanna use Banshee).

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Every Music Player Wants To Stream Music?

Apr 19, 2010

I've had an awkward problem lately: every music player I use wants to instead of play music from my USB external hard drive, stream music from it. I have no idea why it suddenly started doing that. It may have been an accidental key-combo I pressed, thinking I had another window targeted and didn't bother pressing it again for my Totem music player. So I closed out of Totem in hopes that Rythmbox would work like totem used to. Well, it doesn't. It wants to stream music now.The problem with the streaming music is trivial, but here it is: I have a playlist with a little over 300 songs. I have Totem set to shuffle and repeat my music. Streaming music with it makes it just stop randomly after a few songs, and when I try to pause music and play it later it takes a good 30 seconds before it kicks back in at the beginning of the song.Like I always ask because I don't know enough to give back to the community yet, can anyone help me? Thanks.

General :: Need Music Player That Isn't Annoying

Jun 15, 2010

I've been ripping my CDs to digital for about 10-12 years, and for about 8-10 years, all my new purchases of music have been in digital form. My favored method of organizing my stuff has been by using subdirectories code...

It seems that every music program that has the ability to manage your music collection wants to use MP3 tags to do so. I severely do not want that behavior. I would like to be able to automatically create a library based on pathnames.

Winamp cooperates with my directory structure, but Rhythmbox / Songbird / Exaile seem to be hard-coded to just read id3 tags and operate according to that.

General :: Automation - Good Console-based Program To Automatically Manage Music Collection?

May 31, 2011

I like the convenience of having a music player that manages the placement of my music files based on the tags of the files, sorting into a root music folder with Artist/Album/01 - Track Title.mp3 sort of hierarchy. Previously, I was using Banshee for this feature, as even most of the other gui music players don't have this library management feature. Now, I've been trying to use console-based applications, and I have been using mpd + ncmpcpp fairly successfully. When I download new music, it is downloaded to a specific folder, and that's not part of my music collection. My previous workflow would be to open a gui filemanager at the downloaded folder, and drag and drop those songs onto banshee, which would then make a copy of those files in my library hierarchy. Currently, I'm doing the same thing, using Banshee only as a sort of import program, then closing it and updating my mpd database, and there we go.

If at all possible, I'd like to automate this to something where I can define a watch folder, and when some magical program sees new music in said watch folder, it identifies the correct place for the files to be copied into my heirarchy, renaming folders and files to the correct format. I know I've written a lot describing, but I don't actually think this too uncommon a task, and I'm wondering if anyone has a solution for my problem.

May 13, 2010

I have a pretty straight forward (I thought) request for a music player and I'm hitting problems EVERYWHERE
So what I need:

1. Plays music on my computer
2. Can transfer music & playlists to my Creative Zen
3. Can burn cd's within the player (and make auto convert to .wav's so I can play in my vehicle).

I'd like to have lyrics and a wiki page (like songbird and amarok do) but I'll sacrifice them for the other features....which all seem so basic

General :: Moving Symlinks Into A Folder Based On Id3 Tags?

Apr 3, 2010

I'm trying to get my music folder into something sensible. Right now, I have all my music stored in /home/foo so I have all of the albums soft linked to ~/music. I want the structure to be ~/music/<artist>/<album> I've got all of the symlinks into ~/music right now so I just need to get the symlinks into the proper structure. I'm trying to do this by delving into the symlinked album, getting the artist name with id3info. I can do this, but I can't seem to get it to work correctly.

for i in $( find -L $i -name "*.mp3" -printf "%h
")
do
echo "$i" #testing purposes

[code]....

I'm trying to mv The Trance Mix 3 Wanderlust - DJ Exortius [TRANCE DEEP VOCAL TECH]@ into the real directory DJ Exortius. DJ Exortius already exists, so it's just a matter of moving it into the correct directory that's based on the id3 tag of the mp3 inside.

PS: I've tried easytag, but when I restructure the album, it moves it from /home/foo which is not what I want.

General :: Media Player - None Of The Downloaded Music And Lists The Songs In Each Album Backwards

Nov 24, 2010

Let me begin by saying that I'm a "casual user" of my computer (I'm a retiree who uses her 'machine' for email, looking up mostly useless info, & pretending to be a writer). However, migraines from beating my head on the keyboard in frustration over Windows eccentricities led me straight to Linux. Linux blows windows out of the water, IMO.

Except for Media Players. I have tried every one in Ubuntu's software catalog. Rhythmbox is the only one that works, & it doesn't work correctly. I use my computer as my primary music source, & have saved nearly 200 albums/CDs to it. I transferred my collection to a memory stick, then tried to transfer it to Ubuntu. Rhythmbox 'accepted' most but not all albums, but none of the downloaded music, & lists the songs in each album backwards. When I open an album, sometimes Rhythmbox plays them backwards, sometimes (rarely) 'frontwards', but usually, jumps around, plays a few of the numbers, then stops. Occasionally, it goes through the collection, playing one song from each collection.

I was able to transfer the entire collection to 'Listen' media player, but it doesn't actually play anything, & I never even got that far with any other player. I have a two year-old HP Compaq Presario desktop w/ 500GB, (300 to Ubuntu & the rest to The Dreaded Windows for some stuff I can't run on Linux). I began with running Ubuntu 10.04 on 'wubi', then installed it from a CD I burned from the Ubuntu site. Someone suggested I had screwed something up during downloading, so I got 10.04 on a CD (w/ "Ubuntu for Non-Geeks"), but had the same media player problems. Last month I upgraded to 10.10, but still have the same problems.

General :: Mounting A Partition As Music Folder In Ubuntu 10.4

Sep 6, 2010

I have installed a new hard drive and partitioned some space that I am wanting to use for keeping my Music files on. I have entered a line into the /etc/fstab file that I believe mounts the partition properly, but it is giving root owner ship of the partition. Is there a better way of doing this? perhaps mounting the drive some where else and using a hard link? the line I have so far in my fstab is

/dev/sdb1 /home/me/Music ext4 defaults,user 0 2

But this is still sowing the drive on my desktop, it also replaces the the name of Music in my places with the fact that it is a drive of such a size.

General :: Transfer Album Art Images To Cowon IAudio 9 Mp3 Player With System Music Software?

Mar 23, 2011

I have got a Cowon iAudio 9 music player and want to display the album art images of the albums on it. The player does support this feature but only when there is a *.jpg file inside of the album folder or the image is embedded into the music file itself (did not tried that).

At the moment I'm using banshee as music management software and I like it. The album art is downloaded automatically for each album and when the player is connected it is beeing recognized and I can drag & drop albums or single songs.

The only problem is that the album art is not transfered along with the albums. The player does support MTP and MSC usb connections and is mounted as removeable usb drive to the system (Ubuntu 10.10). I would be glad if there's a solution to do that with banshee but other software solutions are welcome too.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Console Based Music Players?

Mar 22, 2011

I wonder which are the main disadvantages of using console based music players like cmus. I was looking around for reviews and comparisons with GUI music players but didn't find a lot of information which, to me, is a sign that console based players are so much worse off that there is no need to even compare them to their graphical relatives.

However, as I see it, I gain both speed and free up system resources by running a light weight music player in the terminal rather than one with a GUI. Then, I'm not at all very knowledgeable when it comes to audio players and music files so I'm thinking I'm missing something here. But what? Do I lose some tagging functionality, playlist or equalizer options or maybe even sound quality due to different usage of sound drivers or something? Or do people simply stay away from players like cmus just because they can't point and click with the mouse? (I guess it might be hard to get them to work intuitively with USB-attached mp3-players, but that's not a probelm for me.)
