Software :: Media Player Hanging And Not Playing Music After A Little While
Jun 13, 2010I have had MASSIVE problems with media-players. None of the ones I tried have been working flawlessly. They end up hanging and not playing my music after a little while. My 35gb music library is originally an itunes library from OS X, copied to the ntfs partition of my netbook (low specs - 1 gb ram, 1,66ghz atom).
I have tried Exaile, Rhythmbox and Banshee (which I liked the most) from the EB4 repos, but none of them works to a level I can agree with. So I was wondering if anyone either has ideas as to how I can make any of the above players work perfectly or what other players I should try out?
Hardware :: Audio Stops Shortly After Starting Playing Music
Nov 10, 2010I have a computer that serves as a mp3 playlist for in the kitchen. I just installed it, and now the sound is not playing correctly. When playing a song with rhythmbox, it will crash after about 40 seconds. When I play it with Amarok, it produces sound for about 40 seconds and then the sound stops, although Amarok keeps playing.
I did the following to the system:
- I put an other computer completely in an other case (Motherboard, harddrives, memory, CPU, Power source (you know the box that powers the motherboard and harddrives, etc.) (Yes this has to be done )
- As for the front panel of the old case, the wires could not be attached to the motherboard, so I only attached: 'HD led' and the 'Power button', but I could not attach the front speaker to the motherboard.
- I reinstalled debian etch
- The motherboard had onboard sound in the back, so I didn't install an audio card. However, when I first booted with debian, there was no sound coming from the port. Therefore I installed an audio card in 1 of the PCI slots.

Dec 31, 2008I'm looking for a music player that has the functionality of Windows Media Player. That is, a player that would search for music all over the file system (like Picasa does for images), and would work conveniently with folder structure - so I would drag an entire folder into the window and the player would create a playlist of it. I have Ubuntu, if it matters.

Fedora :: F11 Audio Volume Changes Everytime When Switch To New Song In Any Music Player?
Sep 2, 2009First of all, this is not a rhythmbox issue, but a pulseaudio one. Everytime I click on next song (in rhythmbox or amarok), the master volume drops about 25 percent. Once the volume goes to 0, the volume cannot be modified without going into sound preferences and unmuting the volume for the application. This is *very* annoying. Basically, it means that everytime I click on next song, I need to follow that with 2 or 3 hits of up volume.

Jan 28, 2010My workstation has a built-in speaker that, surprisingly, plays audio very well. I also have external speakers hooked up to the audio out jack which are easier to hear. Unfortunately, when I try to play some audio material, sound comes out of both the external speakers and the built-in speaker on the workstation.
I'd like to disable the speaker inside the machine, and just plug in head-phones to the external speaker so I can listen to training material at work without bothering my office mate. I'm not sure how to do this in Linux (Suse Enterprise Desktop 11). Fiddling around with the Gnome audio tools doesn't list two different audio devices on the machine.
From what I can tell, sound is played through the ALSA system. I looked in my home directory and there is no .asoundrc controlling configuration.
I should also add that I check in the BIOS for a way to disable the built-in speaker, but I could not find such a setting.
Ubuntu Multimedia :: Playing A File In Any Player - No Sound With 5.1

When ever i'm playing a file in any player, Rhythmbox, Exaile, Totem... and i mean a sound file, i can't listen to my 5.1. Actually... when ever i choose from Sound Preferences -> Output -> Profile: 5.1 I can listen to the Bass kicking, and all my speakers works. Now, when i change manually the song, or automatically... or even when i Stop and then Start again the playback, i loose the Bass and not all my speakers works as intended. When i go to Output Profile again, 5.1 it's still selected. I have to change back to something else, like 4.1 or stereo and then back to 5.1 so the Bass and all speakers work again as they should.

When I try to start playing the file, it gives me:

Problem occurred without error being set. This is a bug in Rhythmbox or GStreamer.
General :: Ubuntu 10.04 Freezing And Ctrl + Alt + Backspace Does Nothing But Music Keeps Playing
May 26, 2010I'm having intermittent problems where the screen will freeze in Ubuntu. I've tried using Ctrl + Alt + Backspace to restart the X-server, though this does nothing. When the freeze occurs, there's a small square of black dashes around the mouse pointer - maybe 1 inch in size. These dashes look a lot like a 2d barcode. The rest of the screen looks normal, but I can't move the mouse and none of the keyboard shortcuts work to do anything. However, music that I begin playing before the freeze continues to play, which seems to indicate it hasn't stalled up completely.
I've noticed a similar freezing problem when I'm using Windows 7. That is, I see the same barcode like dashes around the mouse pointer when it freezes up. So I'm guessing it's either a driver or hardware problem. I thought if it was a hardware problem though, the whole computer might stop working (i.e. music would stop playing)? The video card I am using is an Nvidia, and I believe it's in the 7600 range. In Ubuntu I have the drivers for the card set to the latest available (proprietary). Ideally I'd like to be able to continue using the proprietary drivers. Is there any known issues with the drivers for this model graphics card

Apr 19, 2010I've had an awkward problem lately: every music player I use wants to instead of play music from my USB external hard drive, stream music from it. I have no idea why it suddenly started doing that. It may have been an accidental key-combo I pressed, thinking I had another window targeted and didn't bother pressing it again for my Totem music player. So I closed out of Totem in hopes that Rythmbox would work like totem used to. Well, it doesn't. It wants to stream music now.The problem with the streaming music is trivial, but here it is: I have a playlist with a little over 300 songs. I have Totem set to shuffle and repeat my music. Streaming music with it makes it just stop randomly after a few songs, and when I try to pause music and play it later it takes a good 30 seconds before it kicks back in at the beginning of the song.Like I always ask because I don't know enough to give back to the community yet, can anyone help me? It seems that every music program that has the ability to manage your music collection wants to use MP3 tags to do so. I severely do not want that behavior. I would like to be able to automatically create a library based on pathnames.
Winamp cooperates with my directory structure, but Rhythmbox / Songbird / Exaile seem to be hard-coded to just read id3 tags and operate according to that.

So what I need:
1. Plays music on my computer
2. Can transfer music & playlists to my Creative Zen
3. Can burn cd's within the player (and make auto convert to .wav's so I can play in my vehicle).
I'd like to have lyrics and a wiki page (like songbird and amarok do) but I'll sacrifice them for the other features....which all seem so basic
General :: Mplayer Just Starts Playing The Audio Stream From The Beginning?
Mar 18, 2010I have and avi file and an ac3 file that contains an alternate audio stream. I run mplayer like: mplayer -audiofile foo.ac3 bar.avi
mplayer takes the audio stream from the ac3 file as expected, but when I try to scroll the video using arrows or pgup/pgdown keys, the audio gets desynced: mplayer just starts playing the audio stream from the beginning. Do I have to pass any additional command line arguments in order to make it scroll properly without desyncing audio?

Jun 23, 2010So sound from the speakers on my laptop (hp mini 311) quit working randomly. I either installed an update or just rebooted and it quit working. The sound from the headphone port still works but that is annoying.

Feb 4, 2011I installed Xubuntu to a flashdrive using unetbootin. Since I only have a 2GB drive I installed Fluxbox instead of XFCE to save space. I install alsa-utils to try to get some audio going. aplay and speaker-test gets nothing at all. Both as sudo and a reg user. I have turn up the volume on everything in alsamixer. I believe the relevant drivers are loaded.
