I have to hard drives one empty I plan on installing ubuntu studio [URL] and one with the already installed windows xp pro ,I would like to know a simple way to move my windows music folder to the ubuntu music folder.

I would however like to use Banshee, but in Banshee all my iPod 5G-music is displayed under the video folder, while the music folder is empty. Any idea why?And also I have several albums with different artists on them, which gets spread out on i.e. 10 single albums even though they belong to the same album. This happens - as far as I can tell - after I've accessed the iPod from Rhythmbox (which is part of the reason why I wanna use Banshee).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been building my digital music collection for some time and used to house it on a local drive with no quality issues. A while back I built myself a file server using ubuntu and mdadm in a raid1 configuration to protect against potential drive failure. I link my iTunes library to the music files via a samba share and everything works great on the surface. I've started to notice that random songs are becoming corrupted with pops clicks and silent pauses. I'll even re-download an album and notice that it's corrupted a few weeks later. Now I'm at a loss to what is causing this issue; I ignored it at first but it seems to be getting worse and more widespread as time goes on.
Do you think this could be caused by mdadm? It reports that all is fine via 'cat /process/mdstat' but I wouldn't know where to look or what to look for if there were syncing issues. The other possibility is that I have iTunes set to keep my music folder organized for me, but I've never heard of it actually corrupting the files it shuffles around. The bottom line is that my library is getting crappier as time goes on and I cannot stand for that!
I wanted to enable file sharing in for one of my folders under the home directory. I noticed that the 'not shared' and 'shared' always defaulted back to 'not shared'. And now I see what looks like an electrical plug icon symbol over the folder icon symbol like I might see used for some of the root folders. What does the new icon indicate about the folder attributes and why does file sharing default to 'not shared'?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed a new hard drive and partitioned some space that I am wanting to use for keeping my Music files on. I have entered a line into the /etc/fstab file that I believe mounts the partition properly, but it is giving root owner ship of the partition. Is there a better way of doing this? perhaps mounting the drive some where else and using a hard link? the line I have so far in my fstab is
/dev/sdb1 /home/me/Music ext4 defaults,user 0 2
But this is still sowing the drive on my desktop, it also replaces the the name of Music in my places with the fact that it is a drive of such a size.
I have my music sorted using directories so I don't want a library, tags and what not.What I want:

I have a large collection of music albums sorted in folders which are named like this: "Zombie Ritual - 2004 - Night Of The Zombie Party" (%{artist} - %{year} - %{album}). I want to rename them so as to be indicative of the bitrate, for example, "Zombie Ritual - 2004 - Night Of The Zombie Party" => "Zombie Ritual - 2004 - Night Of The Zombie Party (@320)". It will be hard to do this manually. I tried to use EasyTag and Kid3 to do this, but they cannot add bitrate to tags.

However, I've struggled to configure the share and folder so that the Win7 client can create files and/or folders in the share. Kept getting Permission Denied errors. Finally, (using Webmin) I set the permissions on the file folder so that "Other" had write access. I don't understand why this was necessary (and how unsecure this is). I already had the write access checkbox ticked for "User" but it wasn't enough.

I have Ubuntu 10.04.1 installed alongside Windows Home premium 7 on a Compaq CQ5110f with 2 dual processors, 320 GB HDD, 4 gb Ram, less than a year old/ It is giving me some error messages. It is wanting to lock the drive or various programs after being left unused for a few minutes, I have not found where I can disable this. I do not need passwords, really. I am the only user. I reinstalled it once, on top of itself (Ubuntu) and it worked fine briefly, then started doing it all again.
I use to sometimes install Ubuntu as a windows app. on a previous version, maybe 9.04 - 9.10, but think I can not do it on this version?
So, Can I install as WIndows app on this version of Ubuntu? CAn I install Ubuntu on one drive alone, and windows on the other drive alone, install both in same computer and get dual booting? I think before, to do that I had to reset boot drives in BIOS to whichever I had the OS I wanted to use?
Or MUST they be installed on same drive for dual booting to be available?
I am attaching screen shots of the messages I get, etc. I have tried to share files and folders, but it does not allow me to select Share this folder as some security thing is not installed, And the time I am required to enter password to use comp[iter after being idle a few minutes, seems to be tied to my folder, which is JOHN. I may have to think about removing Ubuntu from this drive, add a SATA drive and use two, one for Windows and one for Ubuntu.

I would like to share a folder from a Linux Guest with a Windows host (with read and write access if possible) in VirtualBox. I read in these two links: here and here that it's possible to do this using Samba, but I am a little bit lost and need more information on how to proceed.
So far, I managed to set up two network adapters (one NAT and one host-only) and to install Samba on the Linux guest, but I have the following questions now: What do I need to type in samba.conf to share a folder from the Linux guest? (the tutorial provided in one of the links above only explains how to share home directories) Are there any Samba commands that I need to run on the guest to enable sharing? How do I make sure that these folders are only available to the host OS and not on the Internet? Once the Linux guest is setup, how do I access each of the individual shared folders from the Windows host? I read that I need to mount a drive on Windows to do this, but do I use Samba logins, or Linux logins, also do I use localhost? or do I need to set up an IP for this?
I'm working on sharing a user's home folder using the username and password of the user's lLnux account. I noticed that home folder sharing is quite easy as I just need to change the smb.conf file to enable it. However I can't seem to login anyway. It seems that Samba keeps its own records of username and passwords. Is there a way that I can map/sync the Linux users' usernames and passwords automatically to Samba? The end result should be that whenever I add a new user or a user changes his/her Linux login password,Samba automatically changes its password as well.

After label the mount folder as httpd_sys_content_t the Apache web server working in correct way (duno much but at least it can index files and excute some php code so) then the troll come in : if some file was created by my ubuntu (personal comp) then the file would be listed in Apache virtualhost correctly.
But if I'm ssh to CentOS server goto /media/www which was mounted to my unbuntu computer. Then type command like $mkdir something Suprising that folder ./something could not be accessed by Apache anymore except I remount by umount and mount it again or "setenforce 0" What is wrong with my system can anyone point me out of this headache

I would like to be able to have streaming music (find a song, or an album, you want to listen to, click and play) from any location, any computer, and I would also like to store files and such that I could also share with whomever I give permission. Anyway, one of the things it lets you do is sort and import your libraries by practically any format you could find imaginable. I have that program setup to import and store my music in the following format:
G:Tunes<Genre><Album Artist><Album><Track Number> - <Track Artist> - <Track Title>.<Extension>
Is there a way to change the default setups in whatever music program I choose to use? It seems to be the same no matter what program I use if it's a GNOME-based program. I've used Banshee and Rhythmbox, but both only leave me with the following options:

I'm dual booting Mac and Fedora 11. My music is on the mac side, and is too large to copy to the Fedora partition. What is the best option for sharing between the two partitions.
I used to copy the itunes folder to public, but that allows anyone access.
What's the best way to do this without allowing complete access?
