General :: Setting Up A Sms Gateway Using An Old Phone?
Jun 4, 2010
I'm thinking of setting up my own sms gateway using my own linux server and regular old nokia phone, along the lines of what is described here [URL]
I was wondering if anyone out there has been down this road before, and in particular knows about approximately how many messages could be sent/received per minute? In the application I have in mind (an instantaneous online survey from an audience of hundreds) I would need to be receiving hundreds of sms texts in around a minute. I was wondering if that was pushing it in terms of the capabilities of an old phone.
I recently upgraded an Ubuntu 8.04 server to 10.04 server. My previous configuration had two network interfaces both routed to the same LAN with the same gateway. This functioned for me so as to support different services on each interface, such as http and smb on one, torrents on another. This routed fine in 8.04 (routing table below). Once I upgraded to 10.04, any packets that traveled beyond the LAN did not return. I checked and there is no local firewall running. Thinking that this was strange I set up a virtual machine and tested it in a different environment at work (and also with a virtual firewall configuration) with the same results.
I also tested several other current operating systems, including Debian 5.04 and Open Solaris 9, all of which routed two interfaces with the same gateway fine. I rolled back from 10.04 to 9.10 and the problem persists, so the change exits also between 8.04 and 9.10. at least identify what is unique to Unbuntu 9.10 and above that is preventing having two interfaces with the same gateway, something that other operating systems do not seem to have trouble with?
I have installed the wireless driver shown in the additional drivers tool but am unable to understand how to set up a wifi hotspot so that i can use internet on my android phonethe guides google returned are a bit too complicated with ip tables and all
So what I want to do is setup a gateway(or router, idk what Ubuntu refers to it as.). So my set up would be Modem>Server>Switch>Router. I know that I need to set up it up as a DHCP server as well. I would also like to setup it up as a firewall too. I already have two Gbit cards that are already configured. So how do I do this? I already tried one tutorial, but it was old and was for Debian. I also installed ebox, but I couldnt figure that out either.
I have trouble getting a gateway to the internet when setting eth0 with a fixed IP address. The gateway address (192.168.2.1 my modem/router) resets to 0.0.0.0 whenever I apply the changes. DHCP works fine but I need a fixed address for my server.
It's installed as a mobile broadband connection. Only works if my phone is plugged in during boot, otherwise plugging in my phone does nothing. For example, I booted my netbook earlier today but my phone wasn't plugged in. Tethering did not work, it just acts as if it isn't present. I rebooted (with my phone still attached) and now tethering magically works.
I have a mobile phone (T68i) attached to my server and everything works fine. But sometimes the phone craches and needs to be rebooted wich is quite annoying. So I want to use a newer phone that is not 10+ years old :-)But when using a K610i or C702 the phone does not appear on /dev/ttyUSB0 as expected. When inserting the usb cable a dmesg gives this:
Code: [5924924.451033] usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 19 [5924924.576728] usb 1-3: New USB device found, idVendor=0fce, idProduct=d0d9
I have a dell precision m4300 laptop with a 360 wireless bluetooth dell adapter On my system there is a debian lenny with kde3 and backported enable(everythings is p to date except bluez-utils and bluetooth holded at version 3.36-3)
Nowadays bluetooth more less works fine, I can send and receive single file to/from my phone (nokia n70)
The hell begin when I try to browse my phone files from konqueror...with bluetooth:/ I can see the list of all the device near me with sdp://[address]/ i can see two icons (obex file transfer & obex object push) but I cant see or access to any file or folder into the phone.
I also try to update my bluez-utils to 4.60-1~bpo50+1 but in this case kbluetooth totally fail and a see the contextual menu of the system tray icon all disaled.
I have a ubuntu server , can advise if I want to change the network setting ( eg. IP address , gateway address etc ) , which one is the configuration file ? for example , if I want to change eth0 setting , what file I should update ?
I recently installed openSuse 11.2 with KDE4.3...When I try to pair my phone, the bluetooth manager finds my phone. However when I try to connect it says "your phone doesnt support input". My phone is set to "discoverable" (ie. visible to all). But, it just wont work.I had it working on previous systems. But not this time.
How do I get basic bluetooth stuff working? Put in USB dongle and it was automatically recognised: Quote:
ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode)
The hcitool scan command works to give the name of the phone and its address thing: Quote:
hcitool scan
But although when I operate the mobile, cell phone to "Browse files" in the bluetooth menu the computer puts up a bubble saying 'connected' the phone say: 'Connecting fail'.
can anybody tell me haw to configure internet on fedora 14 since i m new to linux and i have only one way to to use internet ios through phone and with usb data cable on my pc?
I have downloaded the ISO and would happily say Sayanora to my Win xp sp3 if I can clear my doubts. I had installed Mandriva 2009.1 which had trouble in detecting my mobile phone. I forgot what I did but in the end I got it done in the end. 1. Does it need any software etc for detecting my phone? 2.If yes, can I add it to the iso? 3. Is LiLi a good tool to create live usb thumb drive images? 4. Does the system would hang or become slow if I choose KDE (for Amd Athlon 3200+,640mb ddr1 ram, Asus k8sla mb)? 5. If yes, should I install LXDE or just install Openbox and choose the rest of the pakages as I like?
I am running ubuntu 10.10 and supplying my internet connection with EasyTether on my Motorola Droid 2. I've got my laptop internet working great, but I've tried to follow a couple connection sharing guides and they don't seem to work with my PS3. So the setup is that EasyTether provides the internet connection and an ethernet cable connects the laptop and ps3. I have even tried using FireStarter, but it says eth0 (the connection between laptop and ps3) is not ready.
So here's the question: What should I do to allow my ps3 to access the internet? I've tried manual and automatic settings on my ps3 and neither worked. I believe the problem is with my laptop's settings.
Here's what happens when I do a connection test on my PS3 (automatic config)
Obatain IP Address - Failed
And when I do it manually
Obtain IP Address - Succeeded Internet Connection - Failed

I am accessing internet through Analog Proxy. ADSL modem has been connect to one of windows xp machine and by running Analog proxy, we uses internet by mentioning that machine's ip address. But how do i ping the default gateway in this case? Is it possible or not? If yes then please tell me how, because if i says # ping <anysite.com> it not pinging; its says host unreachable; means i will not be able to run wget too.
I am trying to ping from OEL 5.3. In one of google link; i read that :Does PING work through the Proxy Server? No, ping uses the ICMP protocol to communicate. Proxy only supports TCP and UDP packets. Ping will resolve the DNS name but go no further.
in fedora/redhat system I want to add IP address along with Default Gateway and DNS.For assigning IP to eth0 i use the command # ifconfig etho 192.168.1.10 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 upthis remain temporary and when I restart my system it lost the IP address. Well to permanently add IP address in etho I use the file #cd /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts and then use # vi ifcg-eth0 to add IP address and Network Mask. How can I add Default Gateway and DNS permanently in ifcg-eth0 file or there is any other file for it ?
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Mom's HP laptop. She loves the way I set things up for her. It's a one click solution for accesing her banking, Facebook, Email and SKYPE. I would like to be able to add something else to the panel whereby she would just click once and a telephone pad would appear for her to dial phone numbers so that she can call people from her computer.

Someone in my building has placed an old Gateway computer in the trash room. All I know from looking at it is that it says made for Windows XP and its the old tan hue computers use to have. My question is what are the odds that if I go grab it before trash day I could boot up Ubuntu 10.10 or some other current Linux build on it? I just want to use it as a secondary computer and solely for web browsing and possible word processing.
