i have a problem with my server, it was rebooted to get a special upgrade and it never turned on again. the support told me it's giving grub error 15, file not found. my server is a debian lenny 5 32bit one in raid 1. my menu.lst is:
I have Win XP SP2 installed on my machine. I wanted to try Ubuntu and i created a CD an and wanted to install the OS. The CD booted and i selected the option of "using The OS together and selecting which one to boot" or something similar to that. Ubuntu and changed MBR and installed itself. However on restarting I am getting Error 18. Now i am unable to use my computer at all.
In recover my XP at the moment and how to install Linux so that it does not mess around with any other OS?
I use red hat linux. When I start up network service. I get below error in eth2 root@vls etc]# service network restart Shutting down interface eth2: [OK] Shutting down loopback interface: [OK] Bringing up loopback interface: [OK] Bringing up interface eth2: RTNETLINK answers: File exists Error adding address 10.1.1.82 for eth2. [OK]
I paste the ifcfg-eth2 in here [root@vls network-scripts]# cat ifcfg-eth2 # Intel Corporation 82572EI Gigabit Ethernet Controller (Copper) DEVICE=eth2 BOOTPROTO=none BROADCAST=10.1.255.255 HWADDR=00:80:82:8F:B4:A2 IPADDR=10.1.1.82 NETMASK=255.255.0.0 NETWORK=10.1.0.0 ONBOOT=yes GATEWAY=10.1.1.249 TYPE=Ethernet USERCTL=yes IPV6INIT=no PEERDNS=yes So, what is the problem of error adding address?
I am running LMDE with xfce desktop version 4.8.0 and Windows 7 on a sony vaio. Everything works fine except for one minor inconvenience... When I am using xfce and want to reboot to windows, I have to click shutdown, turn the computer off then back on to get to the grub menu. If I click restart, it reboots back into xfce without ever showing the grub menu.
I was stupidly trying to setup apache for virtual hosts using two different tutorials and something got mucked up along the way. Apache will now not start and I just need a some help fixing it. My error logs show nothing and running "sudo apache2ctl configtest" said "syntax ok".
I dual boot my ubuntu 10.04 with my windows 7, I had 4 partitions on my machine, 2 ntfs and 2 ext4 partitions. But I noticed I still had an unallocated 10gb on my hdd, I couldn't see this unallocated space from ubuntu, fdisk, gparted etc. So I used diskmgmt in windows to create the 10gb ntfs partition, when I restarted I couldn't boot into either windows or ubuntu. I used my livecd to reinstall grub and everything was fine until I booted into windows 7 and restarted. Again my grub has been messed up.
Windows 7 and Kubuntu 10.04 on separate HD partitions. I have three partitions: /boot, /root and swap .
I donno why but after several boots somehow GRUB gets corrupted or something so that when i restart the laptop, it displays "Grub 2 loading..." and restarts again. This seems to go on in an infinite loop, restarting the machine again and again trying to load grub. When I re-install grub, everything is fine (I am able to see the Grub menu of ubuntu and windows and able to boot into both) .
I have an Ubuntu Jaunty server with 4 x 1 TB Hitachi SATA Hard drives and a 4GB IDE Flash Drive. I installed the root file system to the IDE Flash Drive and setup the 4 x 1 TB Hard Drives as a RAID 5 for the home partition (I actually allotted 3 Gigs on each drive as swap space as well). My problem occurs however when I restart my computer after the server installation. Grub doesn't load fully and I am left with a "GRUB_" message on the screen. My root partition is ext3 and I have also tried the same configuration with a boot partition as well on the IDE drive to no avail.
I am having a problem in that the Web Server (Apache) keeps stopping. I know this as watchdog is emailing me. Then about 15mins later it starts again. I cannot seem to find why. can anyone give me pointers as where to look to find the issue.
I am having a problem installing SLES11 on a new server. It goes fine through the setup until it gets to GRUB, it gets me the following error message: Error occurred while installing GRUB
Ubuntu 9.10 was set up to handle the booting selection - previously I thought it was xp but Ubuntu 9.10 "did" it. The system started out as a xp / ubuntu 9.10 dual boot on a 400gb drive. xp has 210gb, ub has 80 and their is a 100gb shared storage. Xp was installed first and then I followed a guide over at linuxconfig.org to get ub installed so that I could select which OS was wanted at boot. Ubuntu manages the boot up menu (Went back to look at my notes from the original setup) The owner tried to update to ub 11.04 and afterall was said and done the machine now boots to the message
error file not found grub rescue I can't say if 11.04 was properly installed or not. Ask whatever you like and I'll give the best answer I can. I think the xp install is okay but I can't say for certain as I don't know how to boot it outside the bootmanager at startup. Data has been saved so if I have to blow it all away and start over I can but I'm hoping I won't have to.
I have a dual boot system with ubuntu 9.10 x64 and Windows 7. Everything has been working fine for a a long time but yesterday I tried to delete an unused partition through the Disk Utility in ubuntu (System->Adminstration->Disk Utility) and everything was messed up. I used to get the "Grub error: Unknown filesystem". I managed to create an ubuntu bootable usb and followed some tutorials for fixing grub but all i managed to do is to get another error: "Grub error: No such disc". After some experimentation i got "Grub stage 1.5" which gave me a grub> command prompt./dev/sda is the drive containing Windows and Ubuntu.
Code:
[ Boot Info Script 0.55 dated February 15th, 2010 ============================= Boot Info Summary: ============================== => Grub 0.97 is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda and looks on the same drive in partition #6 for /boot/grub/stage2 and /boot/grub/menu.lst.
My brother has Tri boot Ubuntu ,7 and Vista ..GRUB2 is the bootloader..The problem : At boot after the Lenovo splash disappears , there appears some 4 to 5 lines of error , error:syntax error GRUB or similar..This is visible only for a fraction of a second before the GRUB2 menu pops up...
The OS es load properly on selection in the menu so no loss of functionality One another problem is there is no OS highlighted by default and the timeout message "Automatic Boot in 10 Secs" does not appear Reinstalling GRUB does not solve the issue
I have a poweredge t110 and am trying to install suse 11 on my server. I am getting a error 17 grub. It will not allow me to get any farther, I have three 250gb HD installed.
I installed debian 5.0.4 server on a PC that has both IDE and SATA controllers. I used an IDE HD to install the OS. The input device was a USB DVD unit. The IDE drive showed as /dev/hda and the 4 SATA HDs showed as /dev/sda1, /dev/sda2, /dev/sda3 and /dev/sda4. After the OS was installed the reboot started which brought up an error: GRUB GRUB Read Error
I then disconnected the SATA HDs and rebooted successfully. So no PROBLEMS with just the IDE drive connected, grub works fine. If I reconnect the SATA HDs though grub fails with:
GRUB GRUB Read Error
The problem originated when the installation got to the GRUB implementation. Here the installer engine asked me If I wanted GRUB to be installed on the MBR, to which I said YES. The installer had listed the IDE drive (/dev/hda) before the SATA drives (/dev/sda, /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc, /dev/sdd). After the installation finished and the machine was restarted, BIOS looked at the SATA drives first could not find the grub stages and it displayed an "Read Error".
After realising what was happening I looked at the BIOS settings to see if the HD booting sequence could be altered. The BIOS did indeed list the 4 SATA drives first and the IDE HD last. BUT it would not let me alter the booting sequence. So I was stuck with what the BIOS doing. So I decided I take the IDE drive out and create a 20G partition on the first SATA to accommodate the OS. So now everything works OK.
I have a system running om vmware esxi with suse 9.3 i did an inplace upgrade to 10.2. i got the follwoing error during upgrade error occurred while installing grub (version 0.97) error 21 disk cannot be found. I ignore this error and the upgrade went fine. after a reboot the server works pretty fine. Except one thing GRUB.. i cannot install it on this system. i want to install grub on this system.
When I try and boot my Debian computer I get the messages: Grub Loading stage1.5. Grub loading, please wait... Error 15 Is there any way of recovering from this - or is it simply a fresh install? I was attempting an upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze and despite a few hurdles it looked like it was all happening. Got the new kernel loading, and the new grub. It looked as though grub2 was working so I ran the grub-remove-legacy-support command (something like that) and now my computer won't boot grub or Linux.
I'm assuming the MBR on my harddrive is lost, however I don't know what state the partition is in. I'm guessing that maybe this has been lost as well. I tried a few tools from the Ultimate Boot CD but nothing here was able to re-install my grub or boot from any partition or even mount my file-system. I'm fearing the worst but would like it confirmed before I blow it all away with a new install.
I have a machine with several IP addresses with eth devices like eth0, eth0:1, eth0:2, eth0:3. Can I restart only eth0 without bringing down eth0:1? It would be really convenient to be able to log in via SSH on eth0:1 and restart eth0 without locking myself out or not being able to bring the network back up.
If I stop eth0, will that automatically stop all the others?
I am attaching a LTO-3 tape drivce into my RHEL5 linux machine. Every time i used to restart my machine to detect the tape drive is there any way to rescan the buses to detect the newly attached scsi devices. In solaris "devfsadm" and "iostat" is there. I need the same kind of thing in linux.
Code: #!/bin/bash ulimit -c unlimited while true; do ./executeable; done
When i will write this in console it will run executeable file and it will generate report : core.pid after crash so i can gdb the report. The application after crash will restart how can i prevent restarting the application after it's crash?
I have GShutdown 0.2 on ubuntu .when i put it on with some time it is just restarting the session and going directly to login window. "sudo shutdown -P -- --" is working properly so why the GShutdown 0.2 is not??
