Currently if I have folder "/abc/def/ghz" open on Nautilus and I want to run a terminal command on that folder I have to manually open the terminal and go to that folder.I'd like to know if there is a way to have a button or a short cut that'd allow me to open the terminal right in the desired folder.Something like pressing CTRL ALT and have the terminal popup in the the current folder.

I basically am hoping for a line of bash script I can put into "Open With" for folders so I can get a terminal with the right path. I hate manually typing in paths to places when I am looking right at them in nautilus. "gnome-terminal" doesn't work - it just opens a terminal to ~.

However, I'm also very much in the habit of using the nautilus-open-terminal extension for launching new terminal sessions.
I'd like nautilus-open-terminal to launch Terminator rather than gnome-terminal.
A quick search of my system and the web didn't reveal anything. i didn't find a gconf setting to control this. A quick look at the source code didn't help much either.
I have some adlib music files I want to be able to double click from Nautilus.. the command line program that will play them is adplay.. However, if I just do that, then when I double click, the music plays, but no way to stop it!I tried "gnome-terminal adplay --output=oss" as the custom command but it doesn't seem to work.. I need it to open the terminal with adplay so i can stop the music when im done, since there's no GUI front end for this program..ALSA is the default for this app, but it skips horribly, and OSS was the only output device that works..

I'd like to be able to accomplish the same in gnome with the nautilus file browser but can't figure out how to do same. So far I have to open a terminal and then cd to the desired folder. Or do I have to use some other file browser and which one?

I recently preformed a full update to my openSuSe 11.3 x64 + gnome install. Everything was running fine before the update however post a number of features have stopped working or have changed. I used the command zypper up to update everything. The errors I've been recieving are as follows, Wastebasket
Won't open on via Desktop or Places menu. Gives the following error "Could not display "trash:" File Is Of An Unknown Type". If I drop things on the Wastebasket the files do go to /home/USERNAME/.local/share/Trash/files but I can't Empty Wastebasket upon right click as the option is highlighted out.
Computer Icon If I try to open it from link in Places menu I get the error Nautilus cannot handle "computer" locations.. The link to it has also disappeared from the left hand panel if I have a Nautilus window open.
Mounted Icons Previously I used to have 4 drives mounted;
1 network (NFS),
1 encrypted (TrueMount),
2 Windows (partitions of main machine)
Out of these only the encrypted and network drive showed on the Desktop and two Windows drives would stay mounted under /windows but have no icon on the Desktop. After the update, all these drives are on the desktop and but the only way to not have them appear on Desktop is to set Gnome config not to show any of the icons on Desktop. Although these are independent errors, they are all related to folders (at least indirectly) so I felt it was better to group them together to give a better picture of the issue.
I have been using ubuntu for a while and i like it a lot, im a web developer and i have windows xp installed in virtual box, i moved completely to linux and just use windows to test in ie, it had been a while since i didnt use windows and i had to use in the last few days and noticed how much faster it is, the thing that bothered me the most is when opening folders in the desktop or the recycle bin, in windows its instant, in ubuntu opening a folder takes a long time to open nautilus, is this normal or is my installation bad, any comments are appreciated, i dont want to abandon ubuntu, i really like it but it really bothers me that nautilus is so slow to open.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed nautilus-open-terminal, and now the option "Open in Terminal" does show up in the context menu for me in Nautilus, and clicking it does open a terminal. But it just opens to the home directory, every time, same as if I'd opened a terminal in the ordinary way. I've tried to look for solutions to this, but I can't find anyone that even has the same problem. Other people complaining about it all seem to be saying that a terminal doesn't even open for them, which is not the case for me.

It does not appear in nautilus but when I look for it from command line it appears to be there. I simply do 'ls' for this and that means its not hidden.Googled it for an hour to find a suitable answer but most of the posts focus on removing the in front of file name which is not the case here.

All directories are visible in nautilus, all files are visible except in one directories which contains 200gig of videos.A file search shows all in all directories. All files can be opened mv, cp etc. I can move a file from this directory to another and all is well.In my Debian 5.05 distro with the same hd and directories etc, this problem does not occur.

The problem is that I think that my password is still required, but now I can't use my laptop. Here is what happens log in (it doesn't ask for a password), then I get the error that it can't update ICEauthority, then I get the error "There is a problem with the configuration server./usr/lib/libconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)I also get the error that Nautilus can't create my Desktop folder and .nautilus folder.The problem is that I do not have another account, as in no root account. View 13 Replies View RelatedI keep all of my web design work under /var/www/(application_name). Nine times out ten, when I open a terminal, I'm heading to the www folder - cd /var/www. I would love to make that my "home" folder for the terminal, so it would just open there - I know if I ctrl+shift+t to open a new tab it defaults to the same dir, but it would be nice to have the first opened terminal default to there. Is this possible, or is there a better way to go about this?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi had some issue with the machine rebooting multiple times, What happens is that the machine boots up and suddenly crashes and then boots up cleanly. I was going through the log files during when this occurs. I came across /var/log/syslog which i guess logs messages before shutdown. It has following messages which i think are causing problem.
Could not open /proc/26694/stat: No such file or directory
Could not read the file /proc/26694/stat
Could not open /proc/31128/stat: No such file or directory
Could not read the file /proc/31128/stat
Does any one know what these messages are?
