Jul 10, 2011When you are in Nautilus, can you right-click a folder and choose to open it in terminal?In Ubuntu, I can't do it, any idea?

General :: Run The Terminal In The Folder That Is Currently Open In Nautilus
Dec 4, 2010Currently if I have folder "/abc/def/ghz" open on Nautilus and I want to run a terminal command on that folder I have to manually open the terminal and go to that folder.I'd like to know if there is a way to have a button or a short cut that'd allow me to open the terminal right in the desired folder.Something like pressing CTRL ALT and have the terminal popup in the the current folder.

Apr 16, 2011I keep all of my web design work under /var/www/(application_name). Nine times out ten, when I open a terminal, I'm heading to the www folder - cd /var/www. I would love to make that my "home" folder for the terminal, so it would just open there - I know if I ctrl+shift+t to open a new tab it defaults to the same dir, but it would be nice to have the first opened terminal default to there. Is this possible, or is there a better way to go about this?

Jan 6, 2009just managed to install zenwalk on an old freebie sony p3 laptop last night (thanks to some really helpful folk on these forums) and am feeling rather chuffed but i'm still having a few teething probs.The main one is that when i try to open terminal it just chucks me back to the login screen.Unfortunately the zenwalk forums are closed to new users so no help there! I wondered if anyone on these forums has had a similar problem?

General :: Unable To Open /proc Folder?
Sep 13, 2010i had some issue with the machine rebooting multiple times, What happens is that the machine boots up and suddenly crashes and then boots up cleanly. I was going through the log files during when this occurs. I came across /var/log/syslog which i guess logs messages before shutdown. It has following messages which i think are causing problem.
Could not open /proc/26694/stat: No such file or directory
Could not read the file /proc/26694/stat
Could not open /proc/31128/stat: No such file or directory
Could not read the file /proc/31128/stat
Does any one know what these messages are?

Jun 15, 2011I just love Linux! I am using Fedora 14 and just starting out. I am curious as to why is that when I click the Firefox icon to launch the internet from the menu bar a Linux terminal window has to be open. If I close that particular terminal, (which by the way says "Terminal" and does not show my chosen host name) Firefox closes. If I go to Applications, then Internet, then Firefox to launch the browser, the terminal doesn't open.

If the folder has more entries it take more time to load and if less no of entries then correspondingly less time . the delay in loading the folder varies due to reading of the folder entries in advance . Jan 13, 2011I installed ubuntu maverick a couple days ago, total newbie. After trying to install some software I no longer can access any of the Places folder and get an error - file not found.
I can open Computer, partitions and devices, just not the first 7 folders which i think are bookmarks.

Ok, I eventually solved it. Appears I had inadvertently selected another program as default folder openenr. Just opening any folder with right click - open with - folder openenr reassigned nautilus and opens Places folders ok.

I must be missing some terminology or something key, because people do this all the time inside of other programs (NetBeans, or rails server, for example).
