i just:
sudo apt-get install nautilus-open-terminal but it doesn't show up in nautilus
when i do:
gksudo nautilus and open the context menu, it does
how can i get the open-terminal to show up as user?
I've fallen in love with Terminator as a replacement for the standard gnome-terminal app.
However, I'm also very much in the habit of using the nautilus-open-terminal extension for launching new terminal sessions.
I'd like nautilus-open-terminal to launch Terminator rather than gnome-terminal.
A quick search of my system and the web didn't reveal anything. i didn't find a gconf setting to control this. A quick look at the source code didn't help much either.
I have some adlib music files I want to be able to double click from Nautilus.. the command line program that will play them is adplay.. However, if I just do that, then when I double click, the music plays, but no way to stop it!I tried "gnome-terminal adplay --output=oss" as the custom command but it doesn't seem to work.. I need it to open the terminal with adplay so i can stop the music when im done, since there's no GUI front end for this program..ALSA is the default for this app, but it skips horribly, and OSS was the only output device that works..

But it just opens to the home directory, every time, same as if I'd opened a terminal in the ordinary way. I've tried to look for solutions to this, but I can't find anyone that even has the same problem. Other people complaining about it all seem to be saying that a terminal doesn't even open for them, which is not the case for me.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu 9.10, and is the only OS installed on my system. Yesterday, my desktop stopped working - no right-click function / display of icons. My wallpaper was still intact. The last thing I did was pressed ALT + F2 and executed "gksudo nautilus". This fixed my desktop for the time being, but wasn't showing the correct icons/wallpaper.The real problem started when I restarted. I get the normal login screen, and when I enter my info, it just restarts back to the login screen. I know I am entering the correct information, my caps lock isn't on etc. If I enter my password incorrectly it doesn't reload, it just acts normal and says the pw was wrong. Only when I enter my info correctly does it go to a black screen really quick, then come back to the boot screen.
I am at work right now, but will be checking this thread again later tonight. Please help, I am locked out of my computer which I desperately need to log in to!
Besides having Ubuntu I also have Windows 7 and to keep data between the two I keep a separate partition. So far I have been automatically mounting this partition in /media by editing fstab. The partition shows up in Places and on Desktop. Now I have changed mount-point to be in /mnt and this works fine, the partition mounts. The problem is that it doesn't show up in Places nor on the Desktop. I have changed back the mount-point to /media and the partition shows up on the Desktop and in Places fine, but when the mount-point is changed it won't show up anymore.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a shared windows folder mapped with nautilus. I can connect just fine, but it's strange... it doesn't list all the folders. The permissions are fine and if I "refresh" the view, sometimes the folders show, sometimes not. Any ideas?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI used the Synaptic Package manager to successfully install Epiphany and Nautilus extensions. I restarted but the Epiphany extensions do not appear in the Tools/Extensions list and the Nautilus extensions do not appear in any of the commands.

There are three partitions on my hard drive. Two of them were assigned to mount points / and /home during system installation. The third one was left intact.
After installation the first two partitions were automatically integrated into directory tree and there was a shortcut on the Nautilus sidebar for the third one. Then, I registered the third partition in /etc/fstab for automounting at /home/user/Data directory. For now it works fine, the volume is mounted on startup. But I still have the shortcut to this volume in Nautilus sidebar and icon on my Desktop.
I am interested, if it is possible to disable showing of this items on Desktop and in Nautilus to make the third partition look like registered at system setup time.

gconftool-2 --set /apps/metacity/window_keybindings/toggle_fullscreen --type string "<Alt>F11"
and then suddenly the Terminal disappear, and from then I'm clicking the Terminal icon, but it's not showing up at all.
I have a problem that I can't seem to figure out. I can easily create a .sh file that will execute a command in Terminal, but as soon as it executes the terminal disappears. How do I get it to stay? My idea is to have the keyboard shortcut "ctrl+alt+del" open a .sh file with the contents "ps ax". Then it would be just like having a task manager; the terminal would open with "ps ax" already executed, and all I would have to do is kill the process number.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using an external USB Iomega Rev 70GB HDD. (Have been for a few years). It uses UDF format for higher transfer speeds of large files. (This is not an option, & not changeable), therefore natively recognised since 2.6.20, I think. (But no official Linux support).
Occasionally though, I run into problems such as can't format a disk in Linux, need to boot to Wins to do it. Also like today: So I have a bunch of comic pdfs & cbrs on it, mix of .rar files & folders. They were there yesterday. Today I went to read something and I couldn't see them. Thought maybe I'd deleted it by accident, but no. Looked at the drive in terminal and I can see the "missing" files and folders fine, but can't see them in Nautilus to open in Comix.
-Tried setting all permissions on the whole drive to R/W/E through Nautilus.
-Files & Folders aren't hidden.
-Tried rebooting.
-Tried using Administrator Nautilus.
-Thought it might be a re-emergence of the recent Nautilus Preview bug, so swiched File Preview off.
I am trying to create a script that takes a network resource off the network, and opens it in nautilus to recover files. Everything is working fine, except for the nautilus part. Nautilus opens just fine, but the script opens it and does not go on, even when nautilus is closed. when running another terminal instance with nautilus in it, when nautilus is closed, the extra terminal just sits there.

View 1 Replies View RelatedTrying the various settings (and noticing ubuntu gnome users recently had the same exact OPPOSITE problem -- they can't SHOW hidden files in dolphin) to hide my hidden files in dolphin is not working. The settings are saved OK, but those damn (ending in tilde, ie "~") files do NOT ever hide! I even see the correct little green recycling symbol on them, indicating they're identified as such, but no actual hiding goes on..
Nautilus, which I've used before (but have grown tired of, and was looking forward to dolphin), also has a weird issue that seems to have appeared with FC13 (I'd been using FC12 'til now mostly because of this) - there's no way (AFAIK) to tell it to show the location; to see it, you have to click Go->Location each time. Previously I could set it to print out the whole file or server path and it would stay that way when I opened new windows.. This is on fresh install & update.. kernel is 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64.
I've just been changing some of my icons in /usr/share/applications with the "gksu nautilus" command and now Nautilus won't open at all.
If click any of the options in 'Places' my PC just hangs then does nothing. If I try to open nautilus from the terminal I get the following output code...
i have a asus lcd wide display and when i am installing ubuntu in that it is showing me all 6 text terminal but no graphic terminal when i am switching to graphic terminal it is showing me out of range and i also changed the monitor resolution to least i.e 800*640 and also to max but still it is showing me out of range although if i try to install it in vmware i am getting the display very clearly and and also can change the resolution in vmware

I am using Karmic Koala and not finding uniform behavior regarding internal hard drive mounts. I have placed commands in fstab to mount partitions at boot. One a separate hard drive and the other a separate partition on the boot drive that I set up during OS installation. After boot, GParted shows both of these partitions mounted on the right points (in my case, /dd and /opt). Both the mount points have rw permissions for all. But neither "ls -l" in the terminal nor nautilus shows the drives. They are evidently invisible.I searched the net for hours looking for an answer to this and couldn't find it. Hope someone knows why this is going on.

I was trying out bash scripts to see how to mount NetGear readyshare. I can do so using Nautilus and selecting Network but I wanted to be able to do so from a script. I don't know how it happened but when I clicked on Places/Documents it opened a terminal instead of Nautilus. This applies to all the folders in the Places menu but I can still get Nautilus by clicking Places/Computer and below.
I'm using ubuntu 10.4, nautilus 2.30.1
Lucid 10.04 distro. On an ext usb hd I have 250วด info in 6 directories. All directories are visible in terminal mode mod 755. All directories are visible in nautilus, all files are visible except in one directories which contains 200gig of videos.A file search shows all in all directories. All files can be opened mv, cp etc. I can move a file from this directory to another and all is well.In my Debian 5.05 distro with the same hd and directories etc, this problem does not occur.
